I'm getting hit on posts I wrote too long ago to remember. It's happening because the OC admins were upgrading the spam filters. It's being fixed though, so we can hope it'll stop soon.
What? Nobody has really commented the look? It's not really that bad, but it breaks up with 1280x1024 resolution and quite likely anything higher than that. Though that's quite common problem with non repeating backgrounds, there's always higher resolution that the background was intended for.
It looked jsut so much better when I resized my browser window a bit.
In addition, some more white borders might do some good.
Thank you for the comments on the theme anzah, the monitor I have only goes up to 1024 x 768 so it is hard at times for me to test out this particular theme at higher resolutions. I'll try to set the monitor to a higher resolution( like were you don't see your whole screen but scroll around to see everything) to test this out. I have and the theme does break up a lot at higher resolutions and I will try to find a way to remedy this problem.
I don't see too many options. Simplest one is to use large enough picture that it's bigger than most resolutions that people use. But it's likely that it will break with someone who uses unusually high resolution. Though 1280x1024 is not so unusual anymore with TFT:s. I would aim even bit higher as 19" TFT:s are not unheard of either.
With some pictures it's possible to make seamless tiles, but I don't think that's possible with this one.
Usually best solution is just to make the backround fade away so backround color and picture blend nicely together.
What I would do if I could get wide as possible version out of that picture, would be to make background color green or maybe dark green and to fade bottom of the picture to that color. So there would be problems only when resolution gets too wide. Though horizontal blend wouldn't be that bad either.
Thank you, I have fixed some stuff for the theme and smoothed out parts, it should look better on bigger window sixes now and some of the menu stuff has been upgraded to look better (such as the hover effect).
I don't see that much difference as I don't have screenshot of the older look. Background still doesn't work with high resolutions for same old reasons. I would also add more white borders.
Odd, I tested it out changing my monitor to 1920 x 1200 (to where I can scroll around) and the theme holds up unlike before. I set the theme to a repeating background now, so I thought that would remedy the problem (it seems to on my monitor when set at a higher res). Unless, does the monitor display differently when you set it at a higher resolution that is not native to it?
It's just that those tiles are not seamless. I can see clearly where another tile starts. Maybe it's matter of taste. I just like the look more when I resize the window so that I can see only one tile.
Oh, that's what the issue you were talking about is. It is in fact personal taste then, I would rather have the image repeat itself than have a solid color start off where the image ends (this might change in the future).
I tried some white borders on places, but other than the places that already have white borders (such as the comments) I don't see many areas that would be improved by their addition (maybe the menu highlights might). Do you have specific suggestions on what areas might benefit from addition of white borders?
Thanks for the feedback, it has been very helpful.
You could try borders with the content area. Setting border-style as groove might be interesting. Too bad groove looks good only on Opera, but there's also inset and outset. And I agree that menu highlight might use something.
Making seamless backgrounds can be quite challenging. In this case things look quite different when resolution is changed. Some pages compromise by using fixed width.
This is kinda cool! Actually, very cool. A little slow though. I did NOT know you liked Tolstoy! =) cheers and celebrations etc. in light of recent events.
Thanks, indeed Tolstoy is one of my favourite authors, brilliant, detailed and effective prose.
It is a little slow, but for me it is only slow when run in IE, other than that it usually runs fine. It is probably slow due to the graphic used to make the semi-transparent background for all the text.

Hmmm, I was actually thinking of trying word perfect.

A Random Stranger:
WordPerfect truly is better. I just don't get why Microsoft is THE mainstream word processor; it's monopoly, I guess.
Anyway. My site is at www.xanga.com/bambi_abstract. Thanks!!
