Beta-text of SFE: SF Encyclopedia, the online version of The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction, 3rd Edition, is now available to the public.
The First edition appeared in 1979, was written and edited by Peter Nicholls, and contained 700,000 words in one volume (which I have).
The Second edition was published in 1993, was edited by John Clute and Peter Nicholls, and contained 1,3 million words but no illustrations (I have it too).
This, Third Edition, put online today, contains 3 million words and maybe 100,000 links.
Editors John Clute and David Langford.
Editor Emeritus Peter Nicholls.
Managing Editor Graham Sleight.
Contributing Editors Mike Ashley on magazines, Paul Barnett on artists and illustrators, Jonathan Clement on Japanese and Chinese SF, Nick Lowe on films, Abigail Nussbaum on television, John Platt on comics, Adam Roberts on music.
Technical editor Clare Coney.
Research editor Roger Robinson.
This online edition was made possible and supported by Victor Gollacz, the SF and F imprint of the Orion Publishing Group.
Enjoy!
