Strat-O-Shack

Shack up, baby, shack up

STICKY POST

Tea planting in Malaysia

Shuttered the Shack for a few weeks. Gone talent spotting. Back in mid-December.

Why not visit The New Original Gary Simonds for lots of roster toys, the double indemnity homes of Ken Wenger and his associate, Wen Kenger, for their abundant collections of colorful pictures and logos, and the ever watchful Mr. Bobberts for Fred's timeless apparitions? Boys need their toys. Gobble them up. Happy Thanksgiving!

From the now less murky past

Nov 15 : 4 "new" reads, and an Ebbets Entry

Nov 5 : An Oriole (Terrapin) Park [Baltimore] Entry in support of the Negro set.

Oct 28 : A Ruppert Stadium [Newark] Entry in support of the Negro set.

During my 19c research I come across articles on pre-WW2 baseball that a few of you may also be captivated by. Some of these are spotted in general interest, or general sports, titles available from Google Books. So, as a convenience to you, I've recompiled only that particular article from the larger issue of that magazine or book.

These links will remain here for only a week or two, after which they'll be replaced by a different batch.

SDBP Retro collection [By Request Only]

Nov 5 : Last Negro park image, for a while. KenZ kolorized Baltimore's pretty little Oriole Park which played host to the Elite Giants. It was also home of the Federal League team, when it was known as Terrapin Park.

This brings the number of images/files to 15 in support of this set.

Updated the SDBP code sheet to reflect all the changes, so refer to it.

Nov 2 : Added 2 more, kolorized by KenZ, that can be used with the Negro set.

Comiskey Park from the 1939 East-West Negro Stars Game. (Of course, this can be used for AL gaming of the 1930s-40s too.)

Night shot of Muehlebach Field, which became Ruppert Field then Blues Stadium after old Col. Jacob bought it for his farm (and later the park was refitted with a second deck as Municipal Stadium when Johnson bought the park for his relocated 1955 Athletics.) This was the primary home field for the Monarchs.

Oct 20 : Added KenZ' kolorized t-o-t-c Polo (was 81_3-4-03 from Gary's).

Oct 15 : Added Pittsburghs' Recreation Park.
Robison Field kolorized by KenZ (was 87_7-23-03 from Gary's).

Oct 7 : Braves' County kolorized by Der Meister KenZ (was 29_4-3-03 from Gary's).

Bespoke ballparks from the vintage look. These require the old BP authorization.

A Japanese Hall of a set : Best Nine x 14 [By Request Only]

June 22 : Adds a version of the league that has the player stats adjusted as follows.

All hitters' stat lines have been adjusted to reflect a 130 game season.
All pitchers' stat lines have been adjusted to reflect a 200 innings pitched season.

This special version is meant as a convenience for those who wish to use the players in a draft format. The players are nested on "teams" according to their position.

March 1 : Expanded, 14 team Best Nine set. 168 of the best players in Japanese prefessional baseball history, 1936 - 2008.

Like SOM's HoF set, these players' best 7 years* are chosen, and then the players are carded within their seasonal context.

These 14 teams play a balanced 130 game schedule. This SAdv set includes the PHC and an imported Starter Schedule.

This set is for the computer, only, and it requires ownership of the 2008 season (V 14) in order to authorize it.

* A player's best 7 years are used (when applicable). Allowance is made for those from the WW2 era, the overseas recruits, and the stars of the present day. Quite a few players who were invited to the 2009 WBC to represent Japan are now included.

There is also an earlier release of a print-to-card only set featuring 33 of these players, made as Basic (not SAdv).

Live and in color [By Request Only]

2 sets based on the wonderful, dedicated, hard scrabble research of Gary Ashwill.

One compiles many of the colored ballplayers of 1916 into a set of 6 teams playing a 60 game season.
The 2nd set compiles the results of 2 years worth of play by the Negro National League (West) and associated eastern teams, from 1921 and 1922, into a single entity, 10 team league playing a 162 game season.

These are both done as SAdv, for computer play only, and require the ownership of V 14 to authenticate.

Both sets have imported Starter Schedules playing balanced schedules, and trannies, in an attempt to better "control" for usage, and to mitigate overuse. Really, I want to see to what degree I can keep the double duty players' appearances unique. As starting pitchers:fielders, I've done so. As relief pitchers:fielders, probably less successfully.

Obviously, these are important documents for the SOM gamer. Hopefully they serve to further enhance the anticipation of the forthcoming official SOM release.
