Strat-O-Shack

Shack up, baby, shack up

Live and in color [By Request Only]

2 sets based on the wonderful, dedicated, hard scrabble research of Gary Ashwill.

One compiles many of the colored ballplayers of 1916 into a set of 6 teams playing a 60 game season.
The 2nd set compiles the results of 2 years worth of play by the Negro National League (West) and associated eastern teams, from 1921 and 1922, into a single entity, 10 team league playing a 162 game season.

These are both done as SAdv, for computer play only, and require the ownership of V 14 to authenticate.

Both sets have imported Starter Schedules playing balanced schedules, and trannies, in an attempt to better "control" for usage, and to mitigate overuse. Really, I want to see to what degree I can keep the double duty players' appearances unique. As starting pitchers:fielders, I've done so. As relief pitchers:fielders, probably less successfully.

Obviously, these are important documents for the SOM gamer. Hopefully they serve to further enhance the anticipation of the forthcoming official SOM release.

Thanks,
KenP1

GarLen 2. March 2008, 15:43

Thank you guys. Great to read just how excited you are. We are too. Please let us know how you use it, and if you create a draft league with these players. We expect that would work out really well but it's something that we hadn't tried. Nor did we try any fraternization with the majors. That we make no claims for.

roadgrays 2. March 2008, 18:40

Absolutely awesome job guys, I can't begin to express the thanks for the amount of work that goes into projects like this.

moboat 2. March 2008, 22:44

More great stuff !
... as always ...my thanks

BaseballinDC 3. March 2008, 00:46

Outstanding - the hybrid concept gets around a lot of the problems we have with not enough data, games played, players moving around irregularly, etc. We just need to accept the Negro Leagues for what they were rather than imposing the same expectations as we have for the Major Leagues. I'd rather have this set with whatever flaws it might have in terms of perfect historical accuracy than pretend the league didn't exist.

Anyway, great stuff! Thanks and congratulations to all responsible.

LuiBei 4. March 2008, 02:07

Awesome... can't wait to dive into this one!

bactsr2 5. March 2008, 23:09

Thank you - I haven't upgraded from V11 yet, so I can't actually use the set at this time, but I look forward to using it when I upgrade this summer.

Brian 8. March 2008, 09:13

You guys are just simply amazing. And that's an understatement. Thanks to each and every one of you.

icefan13 11. March 2008, 01:55

Thank you for the hard work and this great set.

Jimbo 11. March 2008, 10:51

Somehow, I missed this during my last few visits. I have to start paying more attention!

I can't wait to download and try them out. Thanks so much for sharing.

Kenneth E. Fricke 12. March 2008, 01:53

I finally got back in here and found this waiting! Looks like it'll be a lot of fun. I have done a lot of reading on these guys, so should be even more enjoyable.

grndout 18. March 2008, 12:40

I’m new here, but so glad to have found you guys. Incredible project. I can’t even imagine all the work that went into it. Great job!

Waddell 27. March 2008, 07:49

I like playing the older teams much more than the present ones. I know this took many hours of labor. Thanks to all involved. I'm not sure when I'll get around to doing anything with it except a game here and there, tho. I have 3 leagues going already.

chrisbyrum 29. April 2008, 12:35

These are awesome, I appreciate your hard work so much.

bearman14 29. April 2008, 19:18

Great job! I know a bunch of work went into making these possible. Thank you!

bactsr2 29. April 2008, 22:04

Thank you! I've upgraded to V13, and have finally got a look at this set. Having Cool Papa Bell as a pitcher (with a #1 hitting card and a 1-10 runner) is something a bit different!

GarLen 30. April 2008, 00:36

We didn't edit the pitching cards for the pitchers' hitting ratings since we made PHC cards for everyone of them. Too much extra work to go through. If you want to do that for your set then you're quite welcome to- refer to the PHC version for the appropriate ratings.

mapstratfan 30. April 2008, 00:41

Just terrific. Perfect for one off replays. Thanks as always

KenP1 1. May 2008, 01:54

Another league to play. Very, very nice! I have already mixed in a couple of teams from the 1921/1922 season into a league I am presently playing with other major & minor leage teams. The results have been interesting. Thank you all for your dedicated work.

BaseballinDC 6. May 2008, 02:01

Amazing! Didn't realize we'd be adding another league so soon (1916) - thanks a million to all who work on these!

lonbags 9. May 2008, 03:09

Your efforts on this are much appreciated! Each of these is a treasure for Strat players, and much thanks goes to you for sharing your work.
