Vanity and Ponderings

Blogging

So, thanks to this blog I've finally started writing more. However, there are occasional horrible errors while dealing with this blog. So, in conjunction with this site, I've started writing on http://otakugen.com/GarbledOne.php as well. Check it out!

Money

I've pinpointed the worst of my problems.

Money Management.

Even when I don't try and spend money, it seems to leak out of my pockets. And what on? Contrary to popular belief, I don't spend tons of money on Anime, Manga, and Pornography. Hell, I don't even spend that much on rent, cars, or snowboarding. All of that is negligable when compared to my incredible spending prowess when it comes to food.

Wow, I never knew that food costs so damn much. Especially steak. Mmmm, steak. I can never resist when my buddies are saying, "Hey Jason! Let's go to Shin Sen Gumi to grab $20 of ramen and beer!" or "Hey Jason! Let's go to Claim Jumpers to grab $40 of steak and beer!"

I need more willpower. Especially since it's only 11 more days till I go to Japan.

Post Here

There was a huge long post. Then Opera 9.01 Beta crashed and it ate it. orz

日本に行きます~

So, I now have tickets from LAX to Tokyo. I also have tickets from Tokyo to Taipei. Flights to and fro.
Anyway, so according to Nammy, we're going to be spending a bunch of time in Tokyo, some time in Kyoto, and possibly hitting up Osaka. My wallet is going to be stretched to the limit in trying to stay afloat with the wealth of merchandise around me. Willpower, however, will save the day.

...

Ok, who am I kidding, I shall be penniless when I return.
Anyway, random Japanese artist link of the day:

Fun in Business

So, yesterday, I went to work and was told that I was meeting with key members of two other companies that we would be working with for a specific project in the future. Needless to say, everyone spoke Japanese more than fluently. Except, of course, me. Although I did understand some Japanese and was able to follow the conversations if not actually participate in them, but it still felt awkward to have the "part-timer" participate in such an important discussion.
Anyway, the meeting began with a lot of bowing and exchanging of business cards while introducing myself as the stupid American in the group. This was repeated every time a person would arrive late, and in the end I had gained six new cards. The majority of the kick-off meeting involved talking about cross-promotion and current market sales in the anime and game industry. We talked about rights, about production studios, and all sorts of other details (many of which got lost due to my lack of Japanese understanding). In the end, I was assigned to be the primary point of contact with the other companies regarding rights and promotions.
Overall, the meeting lasted about three hours. The first group of people arrived at about 5:45pm, and we left the office at 8:45pm. Because it was such an important meeting, all of the parties decided to go get some food afterward at this lovely Japanese place over in Fountain Valley located across the street from Shinsengumi. Two and a half company sponsered beers later, with a small mountain of food in my belly, we finished up and went home. At about 11:50pm.
Anyway, here's my random Japanese artists link of the day:

Upcoming Trips

So, here's the deal. There are a few trips coming up that I may or may not be able to afford, but I'll plan them anyway assuming I can afford them. Here they are:

December:
1-4 Ski Dazzle. I'll be contacting people about this convention to see if they want to be purchasing any equipment, or just get a really cheap ticket to the Bear Mountain area.
10-11 Snow trip. Either 12/10, or 12/11. Most likely it will be to the Bear Mountain area, since Mountain High has horrible snow no matter the season in comparison.
22-1/5 Japan and Taiwan. I will be out of the country, celebrating a new year the only way I know how: drunk.

January:
21 Snow Trip.

March:
24-28 Big Snow Trip. Location: unknown. Still thinking of the options. Most likely Mammoth or Tahoe. I'm actually leaning toward Tahoe, since it's been around 3 years since I've last been there, and I really enjoy it there. Problem is, of course, that the resorts are much more expensive and that the drive up there would take around eight hours.

Anyway, if anyone is interested, just contact me and I'll see what I can do.

Business Cards!

Trying to keep in the habit of posting once every couple of days. So, here's a bit of news:

Yesterday, I got my first set of business cards from my company. They look wonderful, and I hope it's a sign of things to come!

And, with the random bit of cuteness, lemme link this:

... Yes, I know what the user name is.

OUENDAAAAAAAAN!!!!

So, recently I picked up a nice game for the Nintendo DS titled "Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan!" (or Go! Fight! Male Cheerleading Group!). Needless to say, I am as addicted to this game as I was to "Gitaroo Man" and "Rez" when I was playing those. It is just pure awesome.

Eagles Concert

What can I say about the Eagles concert? It was freakin' awesome. They played all the songs that I wanted played and more. Wonderful performances and all. It was a shame that the original people going weren't able to come.

More on the concert later when I wake up?

Edit: A bit more on the concert...

The song set was probably this:
Take It Easy
Witchy Woman
Peaceful, Easy Feeling
One Of These Nights
New Kid In Town
I Can't Tell You Why
Lyin' Eyes
One Day At A Time
Boys Of Summer
In The City
The Long Run
Tequila Sunrise
Love Will Keep Us Alive
No More Cloudy Days
Hole In The World
Take It To The Limit
Walk Away
Sunset Grill
Life's Been Good
Dirty Laundry
Funk 49
Heartache Tonight
Life In The Fast Lane
Hotel California
Rocky Mountain Way
All She Wants To Do Is Dance
Already Gone
Desperado

So, while the tickets claimed the concert would start at 8:00PM, the setup dragged on until 8:30PM. During that time, I drank some beer, and just chatted with George, Ann, and my folks. Then, the show began.

The Eagles started with "Take It Easy," and quickly followed up with a whole bunch of other tunes including Witchy Woman, and Lying Eyes (dedicated to Glenns first wife Plaintiff). During this set, Glenn informed the crowd "Angels 11 - 7," and the crowd went wild. After about an hour worth of playing, they ended the set with "In the Long Run" (where Joe Walsh comically stated that he partied once for 20 years) and took a 15 minute break.

The second set started off with a short clip titled "Eagles - Home Movies," and showed them in the 70s doing various things. Then, they immediately launched into Tequilla Sunrise, and followed it with their entire acoustic set all the way down to "Take it to the Limit" ("or as my wife calls it, the credit card song").

The third set got them rocking again, and they blasted through song after song, including "Life in the Fast Lane" and "Dirty Laundry." They ended their set with "Life in the Fast Lane," and immediately exited stage right. After much cheering, they came back on and played "Hotel California," and "All She Wants To Do Is Dance," after which all the band members and the Eagles once again exited stage right. Finally, after a lot more cheering, they came back on stage to play "Already Gone," and "Desperado."

I think my favorite parts of the show have got to be Lyin' Eyes, and Joe Walshs wonderful Ad-libbing with his songs. Although they didn't have a banjo in their Take It Easy, it was still an incredible concert.

Short Update

Just a short update:

I have finally added in a couple image albums. These are: Mammoth 2004, and Mammoth 2005. The pictures in 2005 aren't completely uploaded yet, but should be done by the end of the day.

In other news: Look forward to the Prinny Plushies! On sale in another month or so!
