Iron Man
Marvel studios have come up with a cracker of a film which potentially sets things up nicely for the The Marvel Avengers being made into a film. You must stay to the very very very end of the closing credits to see what I mean. This film really excites me and already I want to see it again. Why am I raving so much - because I feel this film doesn't make the same mistake many recent superhereo films make by being predictable and formule. The film opening is fantastic within the first 5 minutes we are treated to a flashback with some aswome iconic Tony Stark magazine covers, trust me they look great!
The Advengers is a superhero team that appear in the fictional Marvel Universe. The team, comprising existing Marvel characters variously created by writer-editor Stan Lee, artist and co-plotter Jack Kirby and others, first appeared in The Avengers #1 (Sept. 1963).
Tagged by the company as "Earth’s Mightiest Heroes", the Avengers originally consisted of Ant-Man, Wasp, Thor, Iron Man, and the Hulk. Almost from inception, however, the roster has been fluid - the Hulk departed [1] and Captain America joined the team within the first four issues of the series.[2] The rotating roster has become a hallmark of the team, although one theme remains consistent: the Avengers fight the foes no single superhero can withstand - hence their famous cry of "Avengers Assemble!" The team has featured humans, robots, gods, aliens, supernatural beings and even former villains.
Anyway Robert Downey Jr is great as Tony Stark, aka Iron Man. His performace is pretty good and he gives Tony Stark initially at the start of the film some depth. Watch out for him in the Incredible Hulk later in the summer playing Tony Stark (reference the above Avengers!) Maybe Jeff Bridges edges out Robert in this film, his creepy evil character Obadiah Stane left me on the edge of my seat. The truly amazing thing is the visuals the Iron Man and the Iron Monger suits look amazing and the Transformers esque scene at the end is better than anything in the Transformers film - at least you can make out what the hell is going on and the CGI/Human mix scenes are flawless, no dodgy looking bad CGI here, the CGI is truly awsome! Check out when Jeff Bridges is seen inside the open Iron Monger suit it does look very realistic! I look foward to Iron Man 2 in 2010. It is also refreshing that the "girlfriend" in peril scene is done differently for a change, reference Spiderman where Mary Jane is set up as the trap (hostage) to snare Spiderman in all 3 films. (By the way Spiderman 2 is FANTASTIC!) This doesn't happen this time, ok the girl (Gwyneth Paltrow as Virginia ‘Pepper’ Potts) is subjected to peril but it feels different and strangely more REALISTIC! Terrence Howard is great too and he provides some humour to the proceedings and we will see him again in Iron Man 2 but I won't give that plot away!!!
I give this blockbuster, the first of the summer a decent 9 out of 10!!!! Loved it, roll on Indiana Jones 4 in two weekes.

ffff
