Xmas is coming

...the goose is getting fat
Please put a penny in the old mans' hat.
If you haven't got a penny, a ha'penny will do.
And if you haven't got a ha'penny then God Bless You.

This is it, folks, we're now only a month away from the biggest holiday of the year.

Xmas seems a long way away to me.

U must be really glad it's over in a month then, that would drive me nuts. But then, u have snow.

GrantTLC Monday, November 26, 2007 12:28:11 PM

I think the peparation for xmas is VASTLY unproportional compared to the event itself. We go through months of shopping, cooking, cleaning, organising and corresponding for, what, ONE DAY (with boxing day if you are very lucky)?!?

Some people drive themselves genuinely nuts over it, and having it constantly rammed into your head by the business world frantic to rake in big holiday bucks definitely doesn't help!

Personally, I try to ignore it until I absolutely have to acknowledge it. But my uncle and aunt had the best idea: every year they go to a country that doesn't celebrate it!

Commercialism's such a delightful process no

I did that for five years too! It's joy smile

galadriel Monday, November 26, 2007 11:50:55 PM

Your aunt and uncle are extremely clever! bigsmile I don't want to participate this year...Each year we go to one of my relative's house... I think it's at my grandparents' house this year and that is NOT good. LAst time it was there (I was 12 I think) my sister, cousin and I were playing with water balloons and got told off for 'messing up the cement'. How can you mess up cement with WATER!!!???

Rhona Kirstenrhona Tuesday, November 27, 2007 12:17:39 AM

LOL

That does seem a bit extreme smile

I only have my immediate family to deal with, and partners families. And dealing with Asha's Dad. I'm trying not to think about it till I have to. I gotta move first!

GrantTLC Tuesday, November 27, 2007 7:27:33 AM

Lol@cement story. That sounds like very typical parents. bigsmile

Yeah...I'd like a year off at some point as well. Xmas gets very tedious sometimes, particularly if you love your family but greatly prefer not being in the same room/house/town as most of them!

Sounds like you got extra complications though, Rho. I don't envy you!

He's alright, we're friends.

I was in a shop on Sunday and they had a booth where you could have a free photo with Santa. I was thinking about it...bigsmile The whole idea of Santa is a bit creepy in my opinion. Some old guy who gives presents to children if they're good...hmm. There was a 2yr old girl there bawling her eyes out-poor thing sad

Rhona Kirstenrhona Tuesday, November 27, 2007 11:49:48 PM

I think alot of people r concerned about the Santa thing. In Australia, Kimbers, they have to keep both hands in sight at all times. It's new apparently.

GrantTLC Wednesday, November 28, 2007 7:16:26 AM

I think it's very sad that these perfectly innocent things are now being frowned upon by people with no evidence there's any harm in it and some kind of crusade to wrap their children up in the most sterile 'protective' environment imaginable. It's the same lunacy that has changed the Sesame Streets' Cookie Monster into a CELERY monster.

I was sent a joke email last week about this, about how my generation and earlier had none of this protective idiocy and we seemed to do alright growing up. I'm posting it when I find it. We're in grave danger of sucking all the fun out of being young.

galadriel Wednesday, November 28, 2007 9:03:54 AM

What? The cookie monster actually got changed to a celery monster??!

GrantTLC Wednesday, November 28, 2007 9:12:16 AM

Well, not quite, but it's still a shocking defamation of one of the world's best-loved characters.

C is for carrot, corn...errrr....?

One minute you hear that all kids are too fat, and the next it's that too many girls are anorexic.

GrantTLC Wednesday, November 28, 2007 9:30:40 AM

It's pathetic, isn't it? The constant mixed messages from do-gooding parents, official bodies and the flaming media. We should just stop trying to hammer 'the right messages' into children and let the poor sods grow up on their own. Give them enough advice to help them recognise danger when they come across it, but also the freedom to have a little fun!

GrantTLC Wednesday, November 28, 2007 9:30:54 AM

Wow, I am such a crusader. bigeyes

Rhona Kirstenrhona Wednesday, November 28, 2007 9:49:01 AM
