Blue Chamber

The only sane response to an insane world

The most beautiful day of 2008

I'm not working today! It's a May Day holiday in the UK and for once it is absolutely gorgeous outside. 17 degrees centigrade which won't sound much to some of you but for Aberdonians this is practically tropic! I finally got around to repairing the puncture in my mountain bike's rear tyre and have already spent a wonderul hour or two down at the beach, letting the soothing sounds of the waves on the shore-line fill my head with gentle white noise...(Sorry, no pics of the beach. Didn't think to take my cam! Homer: Doh! Still, here's a pretty one of my garden bathed in sunshine...)

The Cherry Blossoms are a bit late this year. I blame the miserable weather.
Oh, and I SWEAR I have tanned in that brief time in the sun! My face already looks fine and brown! Heh, and because I was wearing my old cycling top - it's a bit tight in places, but shows off my wide shoulders and chest admirably well - I caught this young girl eyeing me up in JJB's (I was looking for more cycling clothes/trainers). Poor little thing went red when I looked up and smiled at her, and scurried off to the other side of the shop! But she soon found an excuse to come back and watch me from afar (My peripheral vision is pretty good)...she was too young for my tastes (possible jailbait) but I'll take any compliments I can get at the moment!

Couldn't tell you what type of flower this is, but it's very pretty!
Lastly, before I nip back out to enjoy the sun some more, I think I should introduce you all to Meer, my parent's young tabby, who has come to stay for a fortnight while my parents run off for fun and frolics along the Western Isles of Scotland.

Cat on the Prowl...
She's a very odd little kitty. One that actually asks you if she's allowed up onto things - something I've never seen any feline do! And she's quite vocal, lots of meowing when you are about. I don't know what she's trying to tell me half the time but it sounds interesting nonetheless.

Aahhhhh, who doesn't like having their tummy rubbed!
...and I have some screen-test thing around 4 o clock. A small video that some guy is putting together needs a 30+ year old man (well that's me at least) that can act (that might not be me) to play a dead North-east fisherman (that DEFINITELY isn't me!) come back from beyond to visit his relatives one last time. I stupidly let my friend talk me into having a go and will happily repay him every moment of terror I've had since he threw the script at me. I was thinking amateur dramatics, not being in front of a camera!

Okay, the sun beckons and I can resist no longer. Enjoy your day!

Personality TestOh god, oh no, oh help!

The photos are nice. 17 is warm for you? It's warmer than 17 here and it's cold hehe
haha the term 'jailbait' is funny. Well, I think it is.
Tanned,? Then who is patting the cat ? P:

It's sunny and warm here today too!
Sounds like you're making the most of the Aberdeen sunshine

Good luck with the screen test thing too

Mate, you've just described Aberdeen's year to date! I think we're allowed at least ONE day of bright sunshine! (But no more! That's yer lot! - God)

Kirsten - Thanks, but I don't think I'm right for the part on offer. Plus, I have a horrible feeling he wants to throw me in the sea and film me drowning...!

Kim - Jailbait IS a funny term, and a very common one here. And that is me tannING, not completely tanned: long way to go yet! Normally I'm so white I gleam (thanks to living in AberMordor) but I am capable of a deep and very sexy brown.

How did the screen test thing go then Grant? Were you required to go in the sea?!
Have you done acting before?

p.s. Meer looks very cuddly and soft  Does she get on with your parents dog?

My Mum's dog dotes on whichever cat is available. He finds them totally fascinating and will follow Meer around wherever she is. Meer, like Connor before her, tolerates this with a feline grace that can erupt into quick bouts of nose-clawing and lots of staying in very high places.

As for the screen-test...see my latest post!

Why did they call the cat Meer? In German, it means sea, or lake.

I really have no idea. My parents are weird?

David Attenborough writes:

I don't suppose it could be a subtle play on the word "meerkat" by any chance? :-)

Oh god I hope not. But that is spot-on my Mum's sense of humour...!

David- AHHH you're that guy from TV!!!! :O I never would have thought of that.

Grant- My dad's humour is calling a dog cat and a cat dog.

I see. So yours obviously comes from your mother's side.

haha No! She doesn't even have any humour! My dad is sooo funny :D Once my friend and I were making up stupid dance moves in the kitchen; making a pancake, shaking sauce bottles...then my dad came in and started dancing too and making up his own dance moves

Really? I thought her comment about the wholewheat pasta being wood was quite funny...

Your Dad sounds like fun. If I ever had kids, that's the kind of Dad I wanted to be. But knowing my luck I'd probably embarrass my kids horribly in front of their friends and they'd stop speaking to me!

Ok, so that's the funniest thing she's said in the 19yrs I've known her.

Oh, I don't think your kids would be embarassed because the parents of their friends would be ultra boring and anti-social and their friends would think it's cool that you're not ultra boring and antisocial.

You're very hard on your poor old Mum! I bet she's tried hard lots of times to make you laugh. Sounds to me like someone is a bit of a Daddy's girl. p:

I'm only being fair. I probably am. My sister gets along with my mum and I get along with my dad. My sister has even bought my mum a gift for mother's day. The thing is, my sister doesn't have a job, so all she did was ask for money FROM my mum, in order to buy the gift :|

By galadriel, # 10. May 2008, 01:04:42

hehe, I wonder if your mum knew that was what the money was for?
