If you stole a bucket of fog, would it be mist?

Not only did we get to enjoy rare sunshine but we also had a thick soupy fog blanketing Aberdeen. I noticed it just before I went to bed and quickly took the following snaps of the grounds outside looking all eerie and mysterious, coppery street lights fighting their way through the gloom...
(Apologies for my ropey camera-work, but I thought my wee Samsung did a great job in such dim lighting)
Spooky, isn't it? My imagination gets all fired up by conditions like these. Is it an alien world with an atmosphere saturated with lethal sulphurous compounds? Or are supernatural horrors lurking just out of sight, waiting for a chance to devour the innocent? It's not advisable to go out during these times, not because of any supposed threat to life but because Aberdeen, being at heart a bustling sea port, usually flavours its fogs with a strong smell of fish, deftly destroying any attempts at romantic sentiment and bullying the lungs of anything unfortunate enough to possess an olfactory system.
Aberdeen can be a little monolithic at times, grey and resolutely dull to the point of absurdity, so I welcome any change to the norm like a long lost lover. I love fog and snow but am especially fond of thunderstorms, the really good ones with lots of lightning and big crashing booms filling the sky - they give me such a buzz! Sadly we haven't had any for a long time now. Perhaps I should move to a tropical climate...?

I find it incredibly peaceful. I love it when there's a really thick fog during the daytime. I go up the hill with the dog, and stand in the middle of the field, surrounded by the beautiful silent white.
I love how the whole landscape lookes like someone has rubbed it out, and how it feels like it's only myself left, and the little circle of grass around my feet
Everything becomes muffled too, you can't hear any traffic or birds or barking dogs...it's like my own little personal non-religious heaven
Have you ever been in a thunder and lightening storm where there is sheet lightening flashing across the sky, and massive lightening bolts like giant trees striking the ground all around you? I have. It was SCARY!!

No! But I really want to be!
Question: have you ever meditated? I've a sneaky suspicion you'd really enjoy it...

Have you? Are you not meant to feel all warm and tingly, like you have been transported off into the air or something? I like the idea of it, and I know it's supposed to be good for you.
I sat cross legged for a while once, and concentrated really hard, but I just ended up getting a bit bored and uncomfortable, and wandered off to make myself a cup of tea...
I think it's something only stressed out people need to do though, if I chilled myself out any more I suspect I would be unconscious!
p.s. like the title!

Mediatation is a complex beast. It can be used purely for relaxation, but is also the first step - some say the most important step - in exploring Spiritualism and all the things spiritualists offer; healing, mediumship etc.
Meditation isn't easy! The hardest thing in the world is to get your mind to shut up, to stop constantly thinking and planning and asssessing and doing all the things modern life requires of it. As with any discipline, it takes practise and dedication before you will really begin to feel the benefits, or are able to take yourself through guided visualisations for various purposes.
As for what you feel, it varies. Ideally you should feel the stress leaving your body, and a sense of inner calm filling your mind, heart and soul. This sensation can be profound - there is really no way of describing it until you've achieved it yourself.
You're probably right, I wouldn't say you needed it at all. i was just curious to know if you'd ever tried. Oh, and you don't need to sit cross-legged. I know people who lie down to do it, although this runs the risk of them falling asleep - easy to do!
p.s - glad you like it! It's an old joke, but a goodie!

Have I meditated? Yes.
Do I meditate often? No.
Am I a spiritualist?
Uh, that's a difficult one to answer. I have been a Spiritualist, since about the age of 19, but recently, as in the last year or so, decided I'd had enough of exploring it and beating myself up for not meditating enough. Therefore the answer - as of 14:47 today - is I think I'm currently Agnostic (there's something there, I just don't know what it is) however...I still tend to think of the world and life and people in spiritual terms.
There, clear as mud

I have a friend who is a spiritualist, she is into astrology too...I don't know if that's got anything to do with it though.
I don't really understand what spiritualism is though, I only recently heard about it when this friend told me that she was one. It doesn't sound like a religion in the way that I think of religion. There isn't a god in spiritualism is there?
I myself am an athiest
I love cathedrals, the architecture of these buildings is so amazing! Those massive pillars like tree trunks, incredibly high ceilings, and huge expanses of beautiful stained glass windows.
I believe that humans have just the same fate as every other animal on the planet though, I don't see why we would get special treatment! I would like to be proved wrong though, and eventually find myself transported to a perfect afterlife, with an endless magical supply of homemade cake, champagne rivers, and no shops.

Spiritualism is...probably too complicated for a dscussion in this here comment thread! I'd suggest googling it and seeing what you find.
There is a Spiritualist church that you can attend, we have two in Aberdeen that meet every Sunday, but I believe that true spiritualism does not need the artifice of church and sermon. It's more a...way of life rather than a religion in the classical sense. A way of thinking, of acting, of experiencing the universe around us.
I was never christened either. My parents wanted me to make up my own mind when I was old enough to do so. Smart people, my parents.
But beware, Kirsten! Once a conversation about this stuff gets started, you might find months of your life slip away while you get engrossed...! If you really want to know more, by all means ask away in an email and I'll tell you what I can.
