If this doesn't blow your minds...

Of all the promises made in my childhood of the wonderful future to come, not one of them had manifested in reality...until yesterday when I saw this video.

Even if robotics normally holds no interest for you, I dare you not to be impressed by the stunningly Bambi-like agility of 'BigDog'.

I DARE you. bigeyes

oh my god that thing is creepy!!!

It's quite astonishing, isn't it? I was like this -> eek the first time I watched it. I find it difficult to actually get my head around the fact that something made of metal, hydraulics and electronics could walk in such a fluid and life-like fashion.

The Einstein in the video below is the one that really creeps me out, though. There's your argument right there for not making these things appear human! Let them stay on the other side of the Uncanny Valley, where they belong!

eek! I didn't even see that one! He is creepy too, but less so than the giant scuttling spider bee thing...that is like something from a nightmare to me!

hehe, I like the way the albert einstein robot does a little japanese bow near the end smile

Heh. Knowing them they'll probably teach it to perform a tea ceremony next. smile

they could have put a little more effort into making his body more realistic though! wink

GrantTLC Thursday, March 20, 2008 3:12:29 PM

It's funny, I thought he'd be taller...

kirsten kirstycat Thursday, March 20, 2008 3:45:32 PM

the body doesn't quite match the head does it? You would think that after putting all that work into making such a life like head with skin and hair etc. that they wouldn't just plonk it on top of a big clunky machine! Still though...very impressive!

GrantTLC Thursday, March 20, 2008 4:04:02 PM

Very. However, what I want to know is...how long until I can buy one to do my hoovering/dishwashing/ironing/dusting? smile And will you be able to choose the head it comes with? Imagine having a shiny plastic dwarf Angelina Jolie hoovering my carpet...! p
