New Look

Welcome to a New Look. While visiting Cookie's web-page (She's the chick being attacked by the fuzzy pink heart in my friends list) I found I really admired her page design (I also really admire the artsy way she uses all elements available to her). Happily, it wasn't a custom job (Far too many people around here know CSS. Show-offs.) so I was able to apply the same to my own little page.

It's a bit 'Mac' for my tastes but as the glossy Opera 2.0 web-style was most likely put together with Apple's celebrated design aethetic in mind I guess I can't say I'm too shocked. I am, however, finding myself surprisingly pleased with the crisp lines, use of space, carefully selected fonts and delicate colours. I've lost my header image, but I was growing less happy by the day with the one I'd settled on so I guess I'll live.

Based on an article I'd read on Lifehacker, I'd started to consider moving to dark themes on all my PC environments; Linux had been there for a while, based on the beautiful 'Flow', but my Windows workspace was a bright shiny silvered tribute to this wonderful R2D2 wallpaper. Sadly, using it at night was starting to give me serious eyestrain, not helped by being post-contact-lens-removal. Having my Blog become dark too was therefore an idea with some appeal.

Unfortunately, the small list of default themes didn't have anything I was looking for. The best I could find was Future City, which was fairly easy on the eye, but it looked horribly clunky compared to this one and I don't know enough (read: any) CSS to attempt to adjust colours and proportions to suit what I wanted. If only there existed an elegantly dark version of this particular theme...(he says, hinting heavily at all CSS Show-offs out there)

Still, I'm pleased with what I've got. And fiddling and tweaking it all has used up a chunk of time at work where I'd otherwise have been tearing out my cuticles to aleviate the boredom, so it's all good. As usual, there are spaces left open below, deliberately - provocatively, some might say - for the purpose of allowing visitors to make their opinions known. Speak and be welcomed, all.

What even Katee Sackhoff (Starbuck in Battlestar Galactica) couldn't save Bionic Woman from the chop. I don't think the writers strike helped or the fact that Michelle Ryan wasn't given the chance to show what the Bionic Woman could actually do. Think they should have given her two bionic arms and legs!!!! M Ryan was actually quite good!

No, not even the mighty Starbuck could save it.

Did M.Ryan have bionic bo....no, no, that's too childish. p

Don't worry, she was a minor character in a minor Soap opera we have over here: Eastenders. God, it's a miserable programme!

The above four are links to style sheets used on your theme.
I think those are the main four which you can try adapting on your custom css in /account/design to change the look, colour fonts etc on your block.
If things don't work out, you can just erase the custom css and get back to this style.
A perfect occupation when the wife has a headache and the lawn is already mowed smile
But this theme is cool, clear and good use of space as you mentioned.
