Let's all go to the Lobby

, ,

In a similar vein to the last post, I'm now taking my mum to see Wall-E at the cinema tomorrow! She phoned last night and pleaded with me to take her, so I've booked tickets just in my lunch there. She didn't have to plead, for two very good reasons. 1) The blatantly manipulative pitiful-female voice sounds disturbing coming from a 55 year old woman: I really must ask her to stop doing it. 2) I've been wracking my brains for a while now trying to think of a plausible way to see Pixar's latest opus without looking like I'm a sad single guy at the cinema possibly scouting for children to 'befriend'.

Sigh. The perils of being perpetually young at heart in a cynical world.

Mum never gets to see films these days unless I take her. Her friends are all rubbish, and Dad doesn't like cinemas what with being born in the age of chalk-boards and Churchill (The Prime Minister not the Insurance Sales-dog). So it's good that she has me; thankfully her taste in cinema is much the same as mine, our relationship has enough tension in it already, thank you very much Scorpio vs Gemini, without subjecting it to my point-blank refusal to even countenance watching Sex and the City.

I assume you are giving the Dark Knight the cold shoulder for the moment. I will be going for a 3rd time in the next few days and beyond the hype and the record breaking taking for this movie do not let this detract from what is truly an awsome film!:yikes:

I have resisted posting my review until after you have seen the film because you really don't want to know anything, just let it delight your ears and eyes!:zip:  :D

Right, Austen. Let's get a few things out in the open.

1) PLEASE no more talk about The Dark Knight. It's been nigh on three months since you last said anything else about ANYTHING. Let's all move on.

2) You can post your review whenever you like. I just won't read it until I'm ready, which will be when I've seen the film, and I DO still want to go and see it - I'm just not busting a gut over it. (If anything, the teaser trailer for Tron 2 has me much more excited because I've been waiting for this for about five years already!!)

The build up for tdk started back in November 07 and we are talking SUPERMAN 1979 biblical proportions here in terms of what Nolan has done with the comic book so you surely can understand my excitement...strangely my excitement for Harry Potter 6 hasn't arrived yet, partly due to having read the books and knowing how it ends, with regard tdk this wasn't the case and it was the complete unknown. Time to move on, probably once I have watched it one more time and contented myself and be prepared with the wait for the dvd probably out in Nov-Dec 08. Tron 2 does sound very exciting and I have to say my interest in Terminator Salvation has increased with the involvement of Christian Bale and the treaser trailer which does look good. Bond 22 is another on my list as is Hellboy 2 which I am looking foward to, but my feelings are that tdk is a seminal moment and all the above mentioned have a lot to live up to.
