Look up at the sky

I wonder...

I read that the ancestor of human being must have been a lancelet.
Physically we have been evolved so much.
Through a evolution, we have acquired useful things for us(like legs) and degraded unuseful functions(like tail).

However mentally ,I think we haven't changed at all.(But not from when we were a lancelet.)
For example, when people are heartbroken, many people have to pass through a series of process for a ricovery. This series are the same from long long time ago. Roughly speaking, heartbrolen->sad feeling->ricovery.

However no one think "This sad feeling will disapear someday so I had better omit this feeling now." Or if one could think so, to carry it out would be difficult.
One can evolve through a heartbroken or other emotional happening. But human being doesn't inherit from this evolution. It is limited only one person.

I wonder why a sad feeling is essential for human mentality?
I wonder the emotions will not evolve forever?

See it is only biochemicals. I had a surgery last week and they gave me a drug in the operating room so I was laughing and talking to the surgeons while they had me cut open. With that kind of drug you can go defusing bombs with an hammer and laugh the whole time.

Speaking of philosophy, we get frustrated by our desires, things we want and we can't have. There are two solutions humankind elaborated during time, more or less similar on all the cutlures. One is to do not think of anything by your passion of the moment, the other is to give up the material world and doing so not having any desire.

Without sad feelings we wouldn't know what is happiness, i guess...
Everything make us learn, that's evolution in a particular way. From the individual to the mankind, we learn to live better in society. If we know what is sad to us we try to not make the others feel like that.

We can be more conscious about living along with people this way.

And maybe the emotional evolution is the next step to evolution to a "superman" (sounds like Nietzsche) =P

Interesting question Aya.

I believe that our emotions are what make us human. If we evolved into something that didn't have emotions then we wouldn't be human anymore.

Having the same emotions as others had before and still have now gives us empathy. The ability to understand what others are feeling makes us closer.

Thank you, mateus!Thank you for your comment!
How are you? How about your school?
I wonder why evolution occur only phisical matter but not emotions,or have occured but we haven't notice it?

I agree with you what you said about sad feeling.
Though sometmes I really don't want this feeling.

Thank you Mickey and thomas!
Empathy! I understand.
Then emotional evolution would have taken different course from physical evolution.
Recently I have many questions about emotion, like teenager.p:

Yes, I think emotions have evolved more as a result of civilization evolving than individual people. As people started to live together in groups, then form families, communities, nations. They began to create more complex relationships with other people which lead to new emotions.

Though physical evolution played a part too. As humans grew more intelligent they started to think more about abstract things like love and hate, life and death and they way these things made them feel. Also they developed language to explain their emotions and share how they felt with others.

Thanks for your concern, Aya.
I'm fine, the school is okay (taking much of my time, but okay, it's almost over).

Now i can understand a little of what you post in italian here, maybe someday i can reply your italian posts too =P

About evolution ocurring without us knowing, i think it's like when you see a child after a long time. We don't notice that he is growing if we see him everyday, but after some time, it shocks us he's a taller than before.
