PlanetWerks 2 - Now Available!

, , , ...

Four months in the re-making, PlanetWerks 2 is now available for download from widgets.opera.com.

PlanetWerks 2 is a major overhaul of the previous version which only supported very basic controls and orbit motions. This new version now supports orientation-accurate eccentricity and inclines, which means that objects in PlanetWerks 2 orbit the sun the same way they do in the full-size solar system!

New objects have been added, such as Eris, Sedna, Orcus, Quaoar, Ixion and Varuna. Also, the major planetary satellites have been added: Ganymede, Titan, Callisto, Luna, Io, Europa, Triton, Rhea, Titania, Oberon, Iapetus, Dione, Tethys, Umbriel, Ariel and Charon.

In PlanetWerks 2, you can now switch the view to a linear scale model, so you can see just how vast the solar system really is. And if things are just too hard to see in this mode, just activate the planetoid finder [F] to help you find things quickly! Then, once you've found your favourite celetial object, four levels of zoom and rotation precision help you zero in on those great views.

Many other small aesthetic improvments combine to create a truly unique astronomical experience! Works best in the new Opera 9.5 betas. Give PlanetWerks 2 a spin lol today!

One of these things is not like the other...

Okay, I want to start off by saying that this blog will not become my "complaining area". Yesh, when things don't go right WRT events at Opera which involve me, I have posted about it here (see the DS Lite post). And yesh, this is another post about something that doesn't seem to be quite right about other such prizes I have recieved from Opera.

However, at no time misconstrue this as sour grapes smile For this time I am merely interested in why this is so; I am not ranting about being cheated! I can quite easily pass these things onto family, which I have quite a lot of, and I'm not offended or disgruntled quite so easily.

On that note, I must mention that I ordered and recieved a 110V power adapter for the DS Lite and all is well! As you can see from the post previous to this one, I have it hooked up to my wireless network here and can surf teh intarwebs from anywhere in the house! Joy! I cannot wait until I get FF3 (I have asked for it for Christmas, so we'll see!) and, since I have always avoided hand-helds until now, my journey towards the Dark Side will be complete! devil

Anyway, this post is about t-shirts I have recieved from Opera. Here in North America, I am quite happy wearing "large" sized t-shirts. I like loose stuff not because I am rotund - which I'm not - but because I slouch (yesh, I'll admit it!) and it's more comfortable.

Anyway, after I won shirt #1 a few weeks ago, I requested a large sized t-shirt. It arrived and I immediately noticed how short it was. I tried putting it on, but it left my midriff exposed like I Dream of Jeannie sad At over 6'1", I'm a pretty tall large. Well, maybe it was just a fluke that I got a smallish-large. I put it aside and didn't think any more of it.

A couple weeks later I won another t-shirt and this time made a point of asking for an XL so I would not suffer the same fate again! Soon enough it arrived and it fit great! I must admit, I looked pretty snazzy in it and I wore it to work bigsmile

When I got home, I threw the shirt in the washer, then the dryer, folded it and put it away. Next week came and I decided to wear it again, only this time I was met with a horrible surprise! The shirt had shrunk!!! It was now a size and a half too small and clung even worse than the original plain large size.

Something was defintely wrong here.

The tag said XL, but my body was saying M. So I took out one of my normal L (made in Canada!) t-shirts to compare it with. The result... well, you can see for yourself:

Either shirt sizes from Norway are different from North America (and they might be, what with the greater than average number of obese people here!) or the material is prone to much shrinkage!

Wrapping this all up, what brought on this post is the fact that I won another shirt today, when I wasn't really even trying. Honestly, I have enough t-shirts already, so I wrote to Gautam and asked for a pen or something instead wink

TTFN!

I am typing this post on my DS Lite!

I am typing this post on the Opera browser on my Nintendo DS! This browser is pretty good, but I still don't have a North American power adapter so I'd better make this short.

Woohoo! smile
