How do you find new music?

When you want to find music have never known, how do you do?
Or you don't FIND, just only accept or not what is noticed in TV or other medias?
I've been useing Last.fm for about 1 year and half. There I'm shareing my listening history and discover music though many users. It's very useful opportunity and exciting experience.
Here in Japan, it seems for me that generally people don't find new music they will like, only choice what they can like among songs (music without singing -in other words "instrumental"- is regard as KARAOKE in Japan, you can laugh at it) hearing from TV or movies(particurar domestic).
I welcome any opinion if you can or not agree with this.

In Japan, radio seems to be almost dead. People get informations about new music from TV (its programs are very childish) and Hit Chart is only one. In America there are variety of charts (college, Latin, R&B,...I don't know well) .
I like artists have not been known well, too. And I often buy CDs have not ever listned to yet depending on some informations (ex. label, producer, support musicians...).
It's very exciting to Discover cool sound by myself.
