There was a concerted effort by US dictionary writers in the 19th century to change the way those words were spelled.

Numerous historical and legal documents show the widespread use of words like "honour" in the 18th century and earlier.

I've heard British people use that word, but I always think of the French word for jacket, because that's where I heard it first.

Not to be confused with Amarok.
