Another Blog?

An hour from NY to Doraville and back.

A new phone, maybe?

, ,

I just got a new phone. Basically a free upgrade. It's a Nokia 6790. Black. Slider with a QWERTY keyboard. I have to learn to type all over again. Still, I'm very happy. There's a lot I need to learn about this phone - it's a Symbian S60 phone.
There will probably be several edits to this post. happy
Oh, by the way, my carrier is AT&T. irked

Do not Taser Yourself! While I clean the coffee off my phone...

H82typ Wednesday, March 24, 2010 4:48:14 PM

bigeyes Something caught in your throat, Carol? lol

L2D2 Wednesday, March 24, 2010 7:01:57 PM

What is Xplore? A search engine for a phone?

Yeah, what's that look for Carol?

Dennis, congrats---I guess---- on your new phone. Hope it works better for you than the last. What's wrong with AT&T? They've been my phone and internet carrier for years and I've been pretty happy with them. I have my DSL with ATT and they've only gone up on the price one time---from 19.99 mo. to 25.00. I get extra help from Lifeline, and my entire bill---for land phone, long distance and high speed internet is a total of $38.00

Bud McDonnellfammcdon Wednesday, March 24, 2010 7:13:20 PM

sherlock Dennis, if you could pick a new carrier, who would you choose?

H82typ Wednesday, March 24, 2010 8:03:12 PM

There ain't no good ones, Bud. Cellphones are so commonplace today that the FCC needs to start regulating them like they do the other utilities. With that said, I'd either stay where I'm at (better the evil you know... ) or go with Sprint.
@ Linda: Nothing really wrong with them - it took them 7 years to tell me that my umts coverage isn't good in my area. rolleyes That's the service I need to go online with my phone. I live in New York, on Long Island, not in the boondocks!

Bud McDonnellfammcdon Wednesday, March 24, 2010 8:08:40 PM

eWeek magazine rates NY, SF, Chicago, and DC as pitiful when it comes to AT&T. Rest of country, good.

H82typ Wednesday, March 24, 2010 8:56:01 PM

irked Just great! I have to say, I don't have problems with my voice service, just my 'net stuff. Still, irked

Bud McDonnellfammcdon Wednesday, March 24, 2010 9:41:32 PM

Yeah, the net is their major complaint except with the iPhone...that is voice also. If you're interested, their site is http://eweek.com

H82typ Wednesday, March 24, 2010 10:09:43 PM

cool, thanks! I'll read it tonight. up

selurus Thursday, March 25, 2010 4:47:24 AM

Congrats smile
There are a lot of apps available for symbian S60 phones, too bad there isn't one that makes coffee

H82typ Thursday, March 25, 2010 4:22:39 PM

Thanks! bigsmile A coffeemaker app. would be great! lol
I d/l X-plore (reccommended by Aadil) but I'll be damned if I can find it. irked
D/l Skyfire, too, just to try it. I'm not impressed.
i still don't have the training wheels off this thing, yet. Between the new phone, the new OS to explore, I'm a little whelmed - not overwhelmed, just whelmed. left lol

@ Carol: I knew it would work. bigsmile I went under my "test" account, and verified it. *hug*

Dacotah Thursday, March 25, 2010 4:44:21 PM

Dennis, knew what would work?
Hug

H82typ Thursday, March 25, 2010 5:01:27 PM

my blog. I saved a post to "private", and it shut the whole thing down.

Dacotah Thursday, March 25, 2010 5:05:47 PM

That's odd that happened.

selurus Thursday, March 25, 2010 5:30:46 PM

Just google it and you'll find most stuff.
Here's the link for you
Get x-plore
http://www.symbian-freeware.com/download-x-plore.html
get sky fire here
http://get.skyfire.com
I prefer using Opera Mobile, but I don't have 3G yet so I use Opera Mini. smile

Bud McDonnellfammcdon Thursday, March 25, 2010 5:46:45 PM

I got 1.75G p Actually I'm on a CDMA network. cry

DavidRavo Thursday, March 25, 2010 8:28:48 PM

Hi Dennis, I hope you don't hold it to your ear. I'm not kidding! 500 Milliwatts directly into your brain! no Good thing it has a keyboard....Disclosure: I'm not a cellphone fan, only use mine for emergencies.

Bud McDonnellfammcdon Thursday, March 25, 2010 8:36:18 PM

I'm lucky if I make two calls a week. It's nuthin' but net usually.

H82typ Thursday, March 25, 2010 8:45:32 PM

lol It's got a speaker, David. I use this one for web access only. I have another "voice" line, which also has a speaker on it. Most of my phone calls last less than 5 minutes, anyway.
I've been completely wireless since 2002, I believe.

H82typ Thursday, March 25, 2010 8:59:12 PM

lol@ Bud. Most of my calls are to auto parts stores or bread route drivers, depending on the time of day.

@Selarus: I already downloaded them. bigsmile I wasn't impressed with skyfire because I can't zoom in for some reason.
With X-plore, I haven't found it anywhere on the phone, yet.

Bud McDonnellfammcdon Thursday, March 25, 2010 9:20:21 PM

DL it again and watch where it goes.

H82typ Friday, March 26, 2010 12:00:02 AM

I found it. It's a .zip file. I don't know how to un-zip it. sad

Bud McDonnellfammcdon Friday, March 26, 2010 1:28:29 AM

Google 'mobile .zip' There are free unzip DL's.

Mad Scientistqlue Friday, March 26, 2010 3:04:55 AM

sherlock. Ask Mik about a zip manager Dennis. My phone comes with one pre-installed but Mik did link to one once! up.
X-plore let's you access the files on your phone directly without the slow and annoying gui getting in the way too much. (but be carefull with it! It can remove important files very easily on some phones! left)

Magsintothedeep Friday, March 26, 2010 3:16:09 AM

Dennis, a big box is the way to go, trust me, after giving this
giving this phone option much thought, I'm convinced!!!

Magsintothedeep Friday, March 26, 2010 3:23:39 AM

Thanks, Selurus! bigsmile

L2D2 Sunday, March 28, 2010 2:49:10 AM

Dennis, after ya'll talking about it, I went to Opera widgets and installed that eReader and about 10 science fiction books. And a few gothic. Looks like it's going to be nice. Thanks for the tip. I never would have known Opera had an eReader. I am going to some of those suggested sights to check out their boook lists.http://files.myopera.com/Tamil/Smilies/ThumbsUp.gif - http://files.myopera.com/L2D2/STUFF/Smilies//lipskissing.gif -
