P2, I grew up on the South Shore, I'll have you know! wink I lived in Townville, South Carolina for 3 years, and Anderson, SC for 17 (20 miles from Greenville/Spartanburg).
I'm moving back there (or North Georgia) asap!
It was culture shock moving down there and culture shock moving back. bigsmile
When I get upset I speak fluent Redneck. lol

Life in Saskatchewan

1. "Vacation" means going to Saskatoon for the weekend.

2. You measure distance in hours.

3. You often switch from "heat" to "A/C" in the same day.

4. You know several people who've hit the ditch more than once.

5. You use a down comforter in the summer.

6. Your grandparents drive at 100 km/h through four meters of snow during a blizzard, without flinching.

7. You carry jumper cables in your car and your girlfriend knows how to use them.

8. You design your kid's Halloween costume to fit over a snowsuit.

9. Driving is better in the winter because the potholes are filled.

10. You know both seasons: Winter and construction.

11. You are bundled up in three sweaters, a parka, ski pants, a touque, two pairs of mittens, boots past your knees in 3 feet of snow in a -35 (-8000 with the windchill) blizzard, your eyelashes are frozen together, your nose is running, you can't feel your toes, and you still stop at 7-Eleven for a Slurpee on the way home.

12. You actually understand these jokes and forward them to all your friends from Saskatchewan.

sherlock perhaps. I think it's just that's the place you're most familiar with. I know a lot of people that spend Summer on this island of mine, though. I used to work in South Hampton. It was fun in the Summer. Like the locals, though, I couldn't wait for the "Summer People" to go away. bigsmile

@ Carol: Yeah, me too. I'll only need one job.

You never, ever want to "change at Jamaica..."

My family is right there, livin' la vida Lawn Guy Land (where people eat with "fawks" and have "Draw-Ring Rooms") and they really do behave as if changing at Jamaica was like having to make a pit-stop at a Leper Colony!lol

H82typ Monday, February 28, 2011 8:47:44 PM

You had "drawing rooms"? bigeyes we had living rooms and kitchens!

*gasp* Alla! Baby! How are you?![/i] happy

It's cheaper to go the cinema there than here. Looks nice.

H82typ Sunday, April 3, 2011 1:28:01 PM

It's beautiful - especially in the Summer. It's expensive, though. 1/4 acre lot 3 b/r house $6k taxes/yr. $250k to buy. scared
In 1969 my parents bought their house for 29k. scared just as a point of reference.
faint

Gavin Tripp-Sheedygarlingmatthews Sunday, April 3, 2011 1:46:21 PM

My parents bought theirs for €11k in '73. in '08 is was worth over €900k. Now I doubt that they could sell it at all. The vagaries of economics. cat

Weired.

Gavin Tripp-Sheedygarlingmatthews Monday, April 4, 2011 7:47:07 PM

Well, the economy has crashed to the point where there is no money to borrow. The largest bank is set to lose €17 billion this year. There's no money to borrow. It's not a problem for them, but I'm sure that a lot of people losing their jobs are truly screwed.

Peterpman45 Monday, April 4, 2011 9:27:26 PM

And they always have preached that investing in bricks and mortar was a sound investment. Well, I guess it's true up to a point. awww

What happened to your new post?

H82typ Monday, May 30, 2011 2:28:14 AM

It was an email forward, and incomplete- title only. So when I get a chance, I'll copy/ paste it. Things that work correctly are too much to ask for apparently. irked

Dacotah Monday, May 30, 2011 4:06:46 AM

Apparently, I know what you mean.
Even with a new computer things don't work correctly. irked

H82typ Sunday, June 19, 2011 7:44:18 PM

Thanks, Mette! heart I'd travel too, if I had enough money! cheers

SummerAngel Sunday, June 19, 2011 8:31:01 PM

When you live somewhere else and are astounded To see that people actually stop at yellow lights..

Maybe I should live ON Long Island. Sunny was just slamming me for running lights...http://files.myopera.com/Tamil/Smilies/ThumbsUp.gif -

H82typ Sunday, June 19, 2011 8:37:32 PM

lol They now have red light cameras at random intersections. Go through a red or yellow light, and BAM! The owner of the car gets a ticket.
They keep changing the locations, too. rolleyes

SummerAngel Sunday, June 19, 2011 8:40:51 PM

We're too back woods for that in my town. They have cameras in Nashville though, so I do stop at the lights there. http://files.myopera.com/Tamil/Smilies/Yes.gif -

I know what you mean, Mette. Unless I'm out of something basic, I won't go to the store for just one thing, much less go 'cruising'.

@ Annette: In Sayville, though, not only do we stop for the yellow lights, we stop for people in the crosswalk, even during rush hour. bigsmile

Suntana Monday, June 20, 2011 4:11:41 PM

Awww C'mon, Annette. I wasn't slammin' you for running lights.
First of all, I notice how you very Southernly conveniently left out the RED aspect of which lights were being discussed. http://files.myopera.com/Tamil/Smilies/LOL.gif - So, no, you weren't running Yellow lights, if that's what you were wanting Dennis to assume. http://files.myopera.com/Tamil/Smilies/Whistle.gif -

And then, I wasn't even slammin'. I was merely suggesting you missed your calling of what career SHOULD have been yours ... that of a feared, top notch Top Fuel Drag Racer. headbang

Dennis, as per Annette's admitted interesting propensity for being oblivious to Red Lights and Stop Signs, I suggested that maybe I should start calling her Cha Cha in honor of Shirley Cha Cha Muldowney.

very Southernly convenientlyhttp://files.myopera.com/Tamil/Smilies/LOL.gif -
They are yellow when I start to go through them...the darn things just turn red before I get all the way through the intersection. So, you see, I didn't very Southernly conveniently leave out the red aspect. http://files.myopera.com/Tamil/Smilies/Tease.gif -
