Another Blog?

An hour from NY to Doraville and back.

Dead phones aren't much fun.

, , ,

OK, so my low battery warning tone sounds, the charge indicator blinks, which means the battery is really low. I shut the phone down and put it in the car. I'm just finishing up at work, I figure I'll go home and put my LG CU400 on charge. I shut it off, every thing is normal. When I get home, I plug in the charger and my day goes in the toilet. The phone is caught in a loop. It shows the AT&T start screen, with the unGodly jet engine start up sound. :eyes: It then goes to the home screen, and says "charging..." . Then it shuts itself off! :insane: I fiddle with it, jiggle it, mess with it in general. It's not having any of it. It still goes through this loop. *sigh* Hopefully I'll be up and running in a couple of days, with a new phone. I'm using my voice line, a Nokia 6030 b to access Mini. The 6030 is an awesome voice phone, but can't handle Mini 4.1 much less 4.2 . So I'm stuck with 3.1

See y'all soon.

Awww, I'm sorry Dennis.
See you soon.
Hugs

Nerak 28. May 2009, 16:55

Hence my hatred for cell phones. Up with landlines!

But still...I'm sorry that happened to ya'. :frown: :coffee:

H82typ 28. May 2009, 17:07

Jeez, Karen! I haven't had a landline since '02!

H82typ 28. May 2009, 17:10

Thanks, Carol - I hope I'll be back by Saturday. :D

Dacotah 28. May 2009, 17:13

Hope so to Dennis. :D

Nerak 28. May 2009, 17:13

I refuse to budge on that one. Lonnie has a cell phone and has asked me if I want one. NEIN!!! All they do is suck you in.

Why the Hell would I want to be bothered when I'm out & about? I could turn the ringer off...but then get the guilt trip when I call the person back. (anyone who would call me plays up the guilt trips bigtime) Texting? Pssht! I have 11 computers at home! I'll use a keyboard where my big clumsy fingers hit the proper keys!

Not to mention the ringtones on those freakin' things. I'm sitting in the waiting room of the doctor's office being tortured with some hippity-hop bullshit ringtone because the jackass beside me won't turn it off! :irked:

Down with cell phones, I say!

Dacotah 28. May 2009, 17:15

  with cell phones.
UGH!!! Your smilie box is like Karen's, I can't close it. The :D is covered. :irked:

Nerak 28. May 2009, 17:18

It sucks that it's doing that to you, Carol. It's perfectly normal for me.

Dacotah 28. May 2009, 17:24

Dacotah 28. May 2009, 17:26

Just like yours, the problem I think is that the words take two lines. Others only has one line.
So far just yours and Dennis's is doing it.

Marike79 28. May 2009, 17:31

awww Dennis.. Look on the bright side you get a new phone :D do you know what it is yet?

Nerak 28. May 2009, 19:00

That is SO weird, Carol! I think you should contact the problem department (if there is such a thing  ) and let them know. They can't fix things they don't know about, ya' know?

I'm going to be off for a while...going into Oregon to pick some stuff up. It's just across the river, but it seems to take for freakin' ever. The expressways are intense like that. Talk to you soon, Sweet Carol! you!

Nerak 28. May 2009, 19:00

WAIT! I know - show that screenshot to Tamil, Carol! He will know who to talk to!:idea::heart:

Really going this time......

Cois 28. May 2009, 19:06

If my phone dies now then I'll be pressing on my microwave oven trying to get a connection :insane:

L2D2 28. May 2009, 19:38

Dennis and Karen's smiley boxes are doing the same thing on my pc Carol and Dennis.

Karen, I hate cell phones with a passion because people act nuts when they get them. Talk, talk, talk, all day and night. I have a landphone and that is all I use. Have a prepaid cellphone, but kept only for emergencies. It ran out of minutes in Dec. and I have not refilled it again.

Hope you are up again quickly, Dennis. Your phone I mean.:D p:

angel292005 28. May 2009, 20:32

It's the screen resolution. Change that or possibly get a new monitor?

Sorry Dennis. Hope your back soon. We miss you!

theoddbod 28. May 2009, 21:25

Homer: Doh!

Dacotah 28. May 2009, 21:33

Karen, hope you get back soon. I answwered your pm.
Talk to you soon Karen, you too.

Nerak 28. May 2009, 23:21

I just replied to your PM, Carol! :D We're super speedy like that...although it took me like 3 hours. I just got back from Portland...took some video. :o: I love Portland SO much!!!

Nerak 28. May 2009, 23:21

Linda - Imagine that. We have another thing in common? Are you frightened in the least bit?

Dacotah 28. May 2009, 23:24

I just replied to your reply. :D

Looking forward to the videos. :D

L2D2 29. May 2009, 00:15

I discovered a great neice on Facebook, been talking to her. She lives in Great Falls, Montana, and they are moving back to Washington State in a few weeks. Not sure the location. Definitely closer to Karen than I am.

Karen, not scared. Maybe I was your mother in a former incarnation (just kidding. Do not believe in reincarnation) I just think Opera allows people to find people with similar traits and interests that might never happen without computers.

In fact, I am a mean old bitch who isn't scared of very much of anything.:D

Nerak 29. May 2009, 00:29

Carol, the videos will probably be boring. I dunno yet. I haven't uploaded 'em. I'll do that ASAP.

 @ Linda...you're far from a mean old bitch. At least not from what I've seen. :left:

:eyes: I used to live in Great Falls, MT. I now live in Washington...as you know. Freaky-deaky.

BTW - Great Falls is the asshole of the country.

Dacotah 29. May 2009, 00:35

L2D2 29. May 2009, 00:48

Apparently, that is what Laurie and Dave think, too. They started trying to leave as soon as they got there. However, Dave had signed some kind of contract that he couldn't get out of without getting into deep s...! So, they have lived there for a few years. Now they are moving back to Washington. Wish I could remember the name of the town. Think I will ask her on FB. Didn't realize you lived in Washington, thought you lived in Oregon.

Wouldn't it really be freaky if it turned out you live in same town they are going back to?:eyes:

intothedeep 29. May 2009, 01:52

 everyone is just hanging out? Sweet!

awww That's too bad, Dennis, looks like you'll need a new phone! Hope its awesome!!!

Captivevet 29. May 2009, 02:39

Maybe not. Did you try taking the battery out and then putting it back in? This will cause a hard reboot. If that doesn't work, then get a new phone.:spock:

H82typ 29. May 2009, 08:13

That, Tyler, is exactly what I did. I left the battery and sim out for 8 hours. So far, so good. I'm still getting a new phone though. This one has a lot of miles on it. I have 30 days to decide if I want to keep the new one. We'll see. :wait:
The thing is, I can't trust this phone any more. Even if it gives me no more trouble. *shrug*

Tamil 29. May 2009, 08:22

H82typ 29. May 2009, 08:33

+1 Tamil. :frown:   hi :D

theoddbod 29. May 2009, 11:16

What's the new phone? :sherlock:

theoddbod 29. May 2009, 11:18

And will it still do duplicates?

H82typ 29. May 2009, 12:56

 Mart, in the interest of speed, I got an LG Shine. I'll take it for a test drive. *shrug* Any suggestions?

p.mansoor 29. May 2009, 13:22

Sorry to hear that the phone died prematurely. awww

H82typ 29. May 2009, 14:04

Thanks,Peter. :frown: This phone I'm on now, a Pantech C150, has socket, but no permissions, and I can't view youtube or vuclip video. :irked:

qlue 29. May 2009, 15:34

Ok Dennis, here's the deal, LG makes crap phones. The 'charger' is actually just a power supply. The actuall charger is built into the phone. That charger has burnt out. (a common problem on LG phones).
So what you do is, go down to the chinese shop on the corner, and buy one of those fong-kong universal charger gizmos that look like the electronic equivalent of a viper. Charge the battery with that and it should work fine. :left:.
Just pray that you've only smoked the charge circuit. :insane:.
Yeah, I know it's annoyingly inconvenient to do it that way, but the repair costs will equal the price of a new phone. The other alternative is to just replace the phone, just don't buy another LG..

H82typ 29. May 2009, 16:30

:eyes: But, that's what I did! Seriously, I had that happen with my last Moto. rip The charging port was loose inside the phone. I get to try this Shine out for free. If it doesn't have the permissions right, and I can't watch vuclip/youtube vids, it's going right back. :irked:

qlue 29. May 2009, 20:27

Well I do hope it works for you..
I've never tried the shine so I can't say how good or bad it is. :left:.
Isn't 'shine' the American term for illicit, home-brewed, liquor? :eyes:.

p.mansoor 29. May 2009, 21:02

H82typ 29. May 2009, 21:27

''Moonshine'' is shortened to '' 'shine'' in Gods Country, yes. :D :drunk: I do not have polite words to describe my... interaction with this phone or with AT&T Tech Services. :bomb: Perhaps tomorrow.

Captivevet 30. May 2009, 15:47

Yep, it sounds like you have reached the breakover point alright.:coffee:

L2D2 30. May 2009, 22:10

Technology sucks sometimes.

p.mansoor 30. May 2009, 22:16

Can we do without it? :left:

L2D2 30. May 2009, 23:02

Well, we CAN, it's just no one wants to except the Amish.

Captivevet 30. May 2009, 23:22

Actually, the Amish do use phones, they just won't let them in their homes. They install them outside, in what from a distance looks like a bird house.

L2D2 30. May 2009, 23:26

I might as well not have a land phone either for all the use it gets. I rarely talk on a phone.

Captivevet 30. May 2009, 23:29

My uncle has a landphone for his buisness, but he operates mostly on his cellphone. Me? I have not had a land line in a long time.:coffee:

L2D2 31. May 2009, 00:33

I don't want a cell phone. I have one, but as stated earlier, miutes expired in Dec. 2008 and I haven't bothered to refill it.

Captivevet 31. May 2009, 01:00

You won't need it if you don't want it. When I was a trucker I had to have one to stay competitive.:coffee:

H82typ 2. June 2009, 17:04

Ok! Update: It wasn't the phone, it was the charger. The LG charger broke years ago, I've been using a iGo universal charger. It's got different tips for different devices. The tip is fine, the charger went.
The Shine is going back. It's a nice unit. I d/l 4.2, Verisign sig. The 'ask first time ' option is there, I just can't access it. AT&T says it's the app. :irked: Also, it won't play vids.
