An hour from NY to Doraville and back.

Age w/m: j.croce

I've been up and down and 'round and 'round and back again. I've been so many places I can't remember where or when. And my only boss was the clock on the wall, and my only friend never really was a friend at all.

I've traded love for pennies, sold my soul for less. Lost my ideals in that long tunnel of time. I've turned inside out and around about and back and then found myself right back where I started again.

Once I had myself a million, now I' ve only got a dime, the diff'rence don't seem quite as bad today. With a nickel or a million, I was searching all the time For something that I never lost or left behind.

~instrumental verse~

Now I'm in my second circle and I'm headin' for the top I've learned a lot of things along the way. I'll be careful while I'm climbin' ' cause it hurts a lot to drop, and when your down nobody gives a damn anyway.

I've traded love for pennies, sold my soul for less. Lost my ideals in that long tunnel of time. I've turned inside out and around about and back and then found myself right back where I started again.

I've looked everywhere online for the first version of this song, with his wife singing harmony, off the album, "Another Day, Another Town", but I've not been successful to date. :frown: He had another version of it on his last album, ''I Got A Name''
This song hit me like a ton of bricks at 17 and still affects me today at 51. (Some of you may know that yesterday was my 51st. birthday :hat: ) "What a long, strange trip it's been..."

Dead phones aren't much fun.

Cois 27. August 2009, 11:47

I've never heard this.. I'll need to check it out on my download site

Dennis 28. August 2009, 08:18

The later v. is a picking rythm, Cois. The earlier v. sounds very Country & Western-ish. I like the early one better, it's not as polished.

Dennis 28. August 2009, 08:21

Thank you so much, Leena! No, I've had this phone for a while. I just don't like it. :irked:

Karen 29. August 2009, 00:33

Linda 20. October 2009, 22:27

Sorry I missed your birthday Dennis, but belated Happy Birthday. 51 is GOOD! Enjoy it. Wish I could. p: I have a Jim Croce LP but not sure which one it is. I'll look.

leena 21. October 2009, 00:58

hey did the link work? were you able to download or hear the song? :sing:

Linda 21. October 2009, 02:07

Well, Dennis, guess what? I discovered I have two Jim Croce LPs, and one of them is I Got a Name
I have only listened to it once, so didn't remember any song but Time in a Bottle

Linda 21. October 2009, 02:14

Forgot to add: Age is on I Got a Name. This record is dated 1973 and is in pristine condition. I am a slight record buff.

Dennis 21. October 2009, 09:25

@ Leena: Nope. Rhapsody doesn't work with Mini. :frown:
I've got it bookmarked, though. :D
@ Linda: Yep, I'm familiar with the album. There's an earlier version, with his wife singing backup, off the album " Another Day, Another Town". I had that on vinyl - Pickwick 33 re-released it. I think I payed $3 for it, at the time.
I'll bet the other one you have is " You Don't Mess Around With Jim", isn't it?

leena 21. October 2009, 14:34

awww! how stinky! =(

Linda 21. October 2009, 16:50

Absolutely. How did you know? I pick these LPs up at pawn shops, flea markets, ebay and there is a little shop called "Timeless Books" that sells old books and 45's and LPs, most of which are in pristine condition. Not sure where I got my Jim Croce. I will look and see next time I go in that shop and see if they might have that LP. If they do, I'll send it to you maybe for Christmas present. :D

Dennis 21. October 2009, 18:55

Well, he only had 3. Four if you include the one with his wife on it. "Life and Times" wasn't as popular. I don't believe his last album would have been as popular if he hadn't died, and the title song was used in the film 'The Last American Hero'.

@ Leena: Yeah. Another reason why I've got to get a pc. :frown: Or at least a windows mobile phone.

Linda 21. October 2009, 19:31

Ah, well, do you have a CD player?

Dennis 21. October 2009, 20:42

Why, yes. Yes I do! :D

Linda 22. October 2009, 01:00

Well, thank God you have at least one piece of technology not a phone! :D

leena 22. October 2009, 01:40

Call it User Inexperience maybe (probably) but so far it is not all it is cracked up to be! The battery is running out in just two or three hours too! AND! When I phoned Verizon about it not detecting internet, even they did not know why. I can stay connected <some/> of the time. Many programs seem to be conflicting, or not compatible but they are pre-loaded. I am very confused by it so far!

And I read the cd-manual too! All of it. Hmmm :worried:

Linda 22. October 2009, 02:25

Dennis, been looking for duet Croce's. Several LPs available of Another Day Another Town. Only one CD available that has both Age and Another Day, Another Town included by the two of them called Bombs over Puerto Rico. On ebay. Original only on 8 track or LP.

Dennis 22. October 2009, 09:11

:sherlock:

Linda 22. October 2009, 20:04

CD available for a little over $20.

Linda 22. October 2009, 20:07

Oh, Ingrid has an official Jim Croce site. She owns and operates a Jazz Restaurant and sells Jim Croce (and her own) music online. Go here They have one son, A.J., who is also a singer and his music is sold there also. Just thought you might be interested.

Dennis 23. October 2009, 00:29

Yep, know that. Thanks Linda. :D

$20 for another day, another town on cd?

Linda 23. October 2009, 00:35

First time I ever did any research on Jim Croce. I usually pay no attention to the artist whatsoever. I know their names (sometimes) and I enjoy their music but not caring much about their personal lives----or public for that matter. I am pretty much like that about people I know, too. Not much of a one to ask personal questions.

Tyler Parke Young 20. November 2009, 00:01

Belated Birthday Greetings Dude!

Dennis 20. November 2009, 14:37

Thanks, Tyler! :D how are you feeling?

Tyler Parke Young 20. November 2009, 17:10

Tyler Parke Young 21. November 2009, 00:20

I took drugs. They helped. :ko:

Linda 21. November 2009, 01:41

Hi Dennis. Just stopped by to say hello. Life sucks right now. Have a good day.

Tyler Parke Young 21. November 2009, 02:26
