Red leaders urge NPA to expand use of land mines vs military

AS THE New People's Army marks its 27th founding anniversary today, its leaders urged guerrillas to employ land mines in operations against the Philippine military in spite of international sanctions against their use.

The central committee of the Communist Party of the Philippines, in an e-mail statement, called on its armed wing to mount attacks, using land mines, especially against the lines and means of transport, installations, depots and other facilities vital to the government's counterinsurgency campaign.

"We can inflict casualties on an advancing enemy force by using land mines, small teams and snipers," said the CPP in an e-mailed statement.

Those bastards! They support the use of land mines even though it is known to injure and kill more civilians than soldiers. Not only that, they're expanding the practice. Will we end up like Cambodia? That is a scary prospect. PCIJ (a left-wing journalism blog), where's the outrage?

In that same article, Gov't spokesman Ignacio Bunye (a liar and spinmeister unequalled even by Washington standards) reacts,

The government will continue to defend its citizens against the godless terrorists who use their arms to exact taxes and threaten legitimate business and private citizens into kowtowing to their diabolical objective to seize power through violent means

What the hell! Since when is their religious beliefs, or nonbeliefs, relevant? I don't see Bunye condemning Allah for the muslim terrorists' attacks. And that is not even accurate. You see, the Philippines is a country of idiosyncrasies, and a number of communists here are in fact theists. Marxism may indeed have an atheistic component, but that does not mean that the Philippine faction follows it to the letter. Bunye is using gdlessness as a smear tactic, which I find highly insulting. I am an atheist and I condemn the NPA and Marxism as outdated, and ineffective ideologies and movements. Please, Mr. Press Secretary, grow a brain.
