Why Microsoft product so popular

I have read a resume of a new gradute saying he was "familiar about DBMS such as Mysql, SQL". I was completely confused. I did know Mysql is a Database Management System (DBMS) and SQL stands for Structed Query Language which Mysql use and definitely not a DBMS. How could they be grouped linearly? Then I was told that here, in this resume, SQL didn't stand for Structed Query Language but SQL Server instead. Yeah, things became clear. He didn't really know much about database, so SQL Server was shortened as SQL. This was a resume with low credit.
Well, return to my topic, Why Microsoft product are so popular? As a graduate looking for a job in IT field, the people mentioned above can mistake SQL Server as SQL, then you can image, how difficult it would be for a banker to tell them from each other? They might question their IT adviser "Why do you choose DB2 which support SQL but not SQL Server itself?" If the adviser tried to tell the story about SQL and IBM, he might be told his boss had no interest in IT history at all. So the best choice would be to replace DB2 with SQL Server ITSELF.
And then, think about Word. It is so natural that you use a word processing application named "Word".
So is Instant Messenger, If you want a messenger running on Windows OS, why not Windows Messenger?
And SmartPhone, if I want a smart phone, and there is a smart phone developed on Smartphnoe SDK, I would tell the sales girl"Hey, this is what I want, no Linux or Palm or anything, just Smartphone."
So, my dear visitor, do you know why Microsoft product are so popular?

Being a Mac user myself, I've never understood the popularity of Windows, either. . . So someone explain it to me, too!

Mac is my name used within my company, for my family is Ma and given name starts with C, but I have never used this Apple product. That is interesting.

I think MS products originally became popular because they were bundled in with new computers. When you bought a new computer, it always had microsoft windows operating system, MS word. That was how MS managed to corner the market on computer software, because they had deals with most of the computer manufacturers to use their software. Also in early times, different products did not work together. So if I wanted to use Wordperfect for writing documents and I emailed that document to someone using MS Word, the other person could not read my document. In my office years ago, everyone converted to MS Word because that was what our new coomputers came loaded with, and that was what the managers learned to use.

It is a surprise to hear that there are new computer with Office installed. In my country, most computers are sold without even OS. Office is so expensive that I don't install it on my own PC.

"Will you learn Python"
"What for? I already know how to program in Visual Basic, and it's much easier. I didn't waste my time learning that just to begin another way to do the same."
For Windows, Microsoft used another approach. As DOS was not as easy as Gates would like, the GUI idea of Apple seemed nice enough, but of course the ideals were others and Microsoft wanted just a machine with very simple commands (Remember the 3-click rule? Every program should be accessible with no more than 3 click), taking off a lot of other stuff necessary, for the sake of simplicity. And now take that to the marketing side... have you read the installation screens of windows? "The easiest Windows ever", "Integrates all the multimedia features", "Full of accesories".
The same goes to Microsoft Office, which... OF COURSE, depends on Windows to work... hahaha... and also, of course, has features that ONLY work with windows... like Internet Explorer... like SQL server... and the list goes on and on...
