We have a pack member down!
I repeat a pack member is down!
Magnus is burning through his 9 lives. I know he's not a cat but he seems to have extra lives...
Anyway, my Jack Russell was attacked this morning by 2 German Shepards and his crazy best friend (that would be me) came to his aid. God must have made me a lot scarier than I actually am because I managed to intimidate 3 adult German Shepard dogs. Two were attacking Magnus and one was in between me and them, growling at me, so I hit it as hard as I could across the face with the doubled up leash while yelling NO!! at all of them and I wasn't backing off. My little white shadow was screaming in pain and that was completely unacceptable. I made them nervous enough that they let him go. He came to me, I took him in and gently cleaned him up. Then off we went to the vet. He has stitches in four places (throat, across his back) and looks awful, but he is alive will be ok eventually. He has some deep punctures although none of them hit anywhere seriously damaging. It was scary and I thought they were going to kill him. You have no idea the relief I felt when he stood up, wobbly, and came to me.
He is sedated now and resting quietly.
Get Well Soon Magsie!

Who are the owners of the three German shepherd dogs? Anybody who can be held responsible?
Healing thoughts and best wishes to little Magnus!

Well done you for rescuing him, you were very brave standing up to those vicious dogs.
I can understand how you felt, that horrible heart plunging sick feeling when another dog is hurting your beloved dog. I've had to shout and whack at a few nasty bully dogs when I used to take our family dog Rhona out for walks. It was usually the alsations that seemed to attack...they would come hurtling across the field especially to snarl at, bite and intimidate my beautiful gentle doggie. I have disliked alsations ever since!
Those dogs you and Magnus met were something else though...it sounds like they really would have turned on him as a hunting pack if you hadn't rescued him! I hope you never meet those dogs again!
Get better soon Magnus!

Jack Russels are tough, i'm sure he'll pull through.
Where were the other dog's owners?
You should get one of those stun 'umbrella' thingies. They have good reach and are very effective against naughty bully dogs without doing any permanent damage.

The dog's owner was at work.
I have spoken to him just a little while ago. He was extremely apologetic and rather upset this had happened. Apparently the dog that started the whole thing is rather aggressive (duh!) and he's always had problems with her. He'd been trying to keep her confined but she keeps escaping.
Anyway, after profuse apologies, he is paying the vet bills and is having the aggressive one put down. He took total responsibility for it all, which kind of surprised me, since people do not like to do that these days.
Magnus is not moving. He's resting very quietly and still. He did manage a bit of a tail wag for me though

I am also very glad to hear the owner is taking full responsibility for the attack with putting down the aggressive dog and paying the vet bills. Being pack animals, it's important he is taking care of the dominant animal.
As it stands now, I am so very glad all of you are doing fine and I'll leave any retribution alone.

And Magnus got up a few minutes ago, finally, for a drink of water and I carried him outside for a bathroom trip.

It's always good to hear that a dog owner is willing to take responsibility like that..

I used to have to beat the crap out of other dogs too with Bingo as he always seemed to attract the demented ones with lowsy owners. I got a horse whip in the end and slashing that across the bullies nose worked a treat!
It's cool how protective we get when something like that happens. Like the time i shouted GO AWAAAAAAAAAAY at that meean pitbull that was running towards Rio. It soon turned into a scampering wimp and ran off. I didn't think i could shout that loud.
You go gurl! *high fives Lindsay*

Adele it was awful
Thanks Gavin!
Thanks Lu! and yes, that motherly instinct does come out doesn't it?!
And as far as Magnus goes, he's moving a little better and is determined to stay close to me so I have to remember to walk slow or he tries to hurry.
As for the mean doggie, she was put down yesterday. That dog came over and growled at me last year in my other neighbors yard while I was feeding her pets, I nearly stabbed her with the pitch fork. So not cool big mean dog! With that one gone, as it tends to be the instigator in other events as well (according to the owner), the owner thinks there will be no more problems. We shall see. However, Hermit told him if any of his dogs ever show aggression towards me again, all his dogs will be disposed of. eep.

I know, dogs pack up and that breed are guard dogs. He wasn't even in their yard so I'm not sure why the one attacked him and then the other joined in.
