If Only I Were As Cool As My Dogs Think I am!

Welcome To My Somewhat Coherent Babbling

Happy Halloween!

It's almost Halloween!
Did you know that there is an ENTIRE isle dedicated to CANDY at Walmart right now?
A WHOLE ISLE. :eyes:

I even finally found those little sweet tarts I like.
And on Sunday all of this candy will be on SALE for CHEAP CHEAP!

What are you going to be this year?
:raider: :ninja: :cat: :smurf:

I'm going to be .... *drumroll* .... a Desperate Housewife!
woooo aahhhhh says the opera audience

Have a safe Halloween if you are celebrating!
(If not, just eat a bunch of candy, that's pretty much all we do anyway.)

Americans LOVE candy!
I always wondered if Halloween in America is really how it is portrayed in the movies ?? with everyone dressing up and running the streets on a sugar rush and throwing toilet paper in trees. Like in Hocus Pocus. Minus the whole sucking childrens souls out thing.

Gavin Sheedy 28. October 2009, 07:41

It's like that in Ireland, minus the toilet roll and plus bonfires. Enjoy Guy Fawkes!

Hermitess 28. October 2009, 10:59

LOL Lucy! The littler kids do dress up and go all around to the houses getting candy. Usually it's the trouble making teens who throw toilet paper, although it does happen. So, pretty much I suppose. Our city had a Halloween carnival last night. I don't celebrate this holiday anymore, except for taking advantage of all the large bags of candies in the stores. p:

Gavin, I was wondering if Halloween is done anywhere else but the US. I know in Mexico they have a similar holiday called All Saints Day, Day of the Dead or something like that. I can't remember now.

Gavin Sheedy 28. October 2009, 11:28

Halloween is supposed to have started in Ireland, it's an old pagan festival, and it was supposed to be the day when the the border between the dead and living was weakest. Kids love it, but it's a bad night to leave anything flamable around, and a busy night for the fire brigade.

Sarah 28. October 2009, 12:10

Lin, There are several isles in our local WalMarts dedicated to the candy and dressing up. I should go take pics. *rubs hands in evil fashion* and share how pathetic retailers are. :D

I mean...a homemade costume is sooo much easier and cheaper. I did buy my 9 year old her bunny ears, tail and bow tie, though. Still trying to figure out the rest of it...p:

ShallowMuse 28. October 2009, 14:04

Yea it is Day of the Dead in Mexico.. wahoo celebratin' the dead! fun times.
just another holiday to make money, i think!

Gavin Sheedy 28. October 2009, 14:06

It's a holiday that people make money out of, but it's oooooold.

Hermitess 28. October 2009, 14:35

I didn't realize it came from Ireland, I'd only heard of the Mexican holiday. Prolly because it's so near to us.

LOL@Sarah, yes there are costumes and things, but I was thinking of the long grocery isles.

I agree Bianca, here it is just fun, dressing up, and candy. No mention of remembering the dead.

Kitty 28. October 2009, 15:24

I can't decide whether to dress up like a :cat: or a :ninja: ...

Gavin Sheedy 28. October 2009, 15:42

Maybe I'll give them what they're always looking for and go to work as a leprechaun. And then steal their lunches.

Lu 28. October 2009, 16:38

The only thing i can say in a proper Irish accent is "i'm a little leprechaun".

I want to see Gavin as a leprechaun!

And i vote NinjaCat!!

Gavin Sheedy 28. October 2009, 16:40

I'd like to see you saying "I'm a little leprechaun". p:

Kitty 28. October 2009, 17:50

Ninjacat it'll be then!

Gavin Sheedy 28. October 2009, 17:51

Guess I'll be a burka wearing leprechaun then. :D (That should go down well in the rascist-voting area I live in ).

ShallowMuse 28. October 2009, 17:54

 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gavin, you just keep taking it a step further EVERY TIME!

Lu 28. October 2009, 18:33

I think someone really wants a burka for christmas...

Gavin Sheedy 28. October 2009, 19:00

I'm dreaming of a burka for Christmas,
and maybe a leprechaun to go...

Kitty 28. October 2009, 19:02

:eyes:

Lu 28. October 2009, 19:17

Yep...he's gone

Gavin Sheedy 28. October 2009, 19:35

ShallowMuse 28. October 2009, 19:52

and I was the one on drugs??! oooookay! :eyes:

Gavin Sheedy 28. October 2009, 20:52

How else would you explain all of this, B.? :D "Oh, yeah I have one friend who's a leprechaun in a burka, and the others are all dressed in P.V.C. catsuits with beer pockets. Henry says that his employers are looking at him funny." "Yes Bianca, now take another pill at have another relaxing design brainstorm."

Lu 28. October 2009, 21:06

You're saying i'm just part of her drug-induced hallucination?
That does explain a lot actually.

Gavin Sheedy 29. October 2009, 05:43

Like the monkey ear-sex? Poor little fellow.

Hermitess 29. October 2009, 06:04

 You guys flirt

Ahhh... I certainly needed that laugh!

moira 29. October 2009, 19:10

Happy Halloween :raider: :clown: :hat: :drunk: :jester:

Hermitess 29. October 2009, 20:56

Thanks Moira! :hat:

r♡se 30. October 2009, 17:45

 I'm pretty sure I had a comment about sweet tarts, but it's lost after reading these comments.

I wish we'd had Halloween celebrations here when I was young. I think it looks fun :D.

Hermitess 30. October 2009, 20:50

Rose it is great fun for the kids. My friend's son won a costume contest this year, went to the Halloween Carnival, AND got to trick or treat! She said people were giving him handfuls of candy.
