No One Told Me They Would Change Colors

Allow me to back up so this makes sense. I was outside with the dogs this afternoon. I was brushing Magnus and he was standing all still and good, enjoying the brushing.
I decided to see how his gums were looking, if they were pink (to be sure he still is making red blood cells, he has a chronic illness that causes them to die). I do this every few days. Gotta take care of my buddy!
So imagine my surprise to see black splotches all over his top and bottom gums. That can't be good.
Being the good dog mummy I am, I trotted off and called my vet who happened to answer the phone. She asked me to bring him out so she could see what was going on. Apparently this is just pigment, like freckles that can suddenly appear. Just like that.
Since Magnus has black lips and black eyeliner (
eyeliner ) she says it's normal for this pigment to appear. It does no harm and doesn't mean anything. (are you sure? cuz if my gums turned black, we'd have problems) oohh kaay Dr. Vet. I did not know this. Yay! I learned something today.
So there you have it. If you own a dog that has pink skin and black lips and, eh, eyeliner, don't get your panties in a bunch if suddenly the dogs gums turn black or splotchy. It's not the bubonic plague or swine flu, it's just freckles. That suddenly appear. Out of no where.
And are black.

Bianca - Well, I used to not until he got sick. Now I do from time to time.
My what big teeth you have!
Sarah - I thought it was going to be baadd.
Gavin - Exactly, so if you gums change color while you are wearing the cat suit, do not be alarmed.

My dog used to have little freckles on his gums too
Nosey Question: Can Magnus still eat normal dog treats and food and such with his illness or does he need a special diet?

With Libby (our Pomeranian) getting ill last Feb and passing and now with Magnus being ill, I have changed to a very high quality all natural dog food. They love it!

...that's a fine offer there, Lucy, but I have a mirror; I even floss!
You're a good dog owner, H. This wild cat could almost be jealous.
