Guidebooks Confiscated

, ,

I found this tip on lonely planet's website, a travel guide provider:

Guidebooks Confiscated
Travellers entering China by road or rail across the southeastern border, particularly the Vietnamese frontier, report that Lonely Planet China guidebooks have been confiscated by border officials. This is due to sensitivity regarding maps of China that do not include Taiwan. Travellers should consider putting a cover on the book to make it less recognisable and just to be safe, copy down any crucial details you might need while in the country.

The mainland people sure are sensitive towards Taiwan issues, but the tips shown above are really amusing.

My view on the murder

, ,

I heard the recent murders happened on Virginia Tech campus, worst in history.
I feel sorry for those who lost their loved ones.
But I'd like to focus on the reactions rather than the action itself.
After the disaster, the whole Asian society felt uneasy, they feared that the public would hold opinions against them--some began analysing their "faults" immediately. When it sounded like a Chinese did that, they feel ashamed, for what other people of their race did.
When it turned out to be a Korean student, the Chinese society relaxed, and the Koreans got nervous--the Korean government made apologies officially saying they are sorry, the sister of the murderer made apologies on behalf of their family too.
Why do a whole race have to feel sorry, even shame, for just one person's crime?
First, the Asians feel lack of confidence in the international community, even one of a million of their kind did bad things, they jump out to express sorrows immediately.
Second, it was the cultural difference between east and west. The easterners tend to form their lives as a group--one member of the family made mistakes, the head of the family (normally the "father") have to toe the scratch for his actions. So the whole group feels guilty for just one.
As for me, there is no way I am feeling shamed for that guy's action. I am sorry for those brillant students who were just about to enter their refulgent life stage suddently lost their lives. Also it makes me feel how important American life is: 32 died, with the whole Koreans apologizing, and the whole world shocked, compared to thousands died in Iraq, not so many care about.

How great/bad being an American

While I was enjoying the music radio on Billboard website, it suddently stoped, and showed a face like this:
If you want to listen more, you have to register. Wanna register? NO way, give us your US post code first! SO, I can not listen with this IP ever!More over, the TV chennel "showtime" seems unavailable outside the US.
How great being an American! You have tremendous amout of informatin, entertainment, education &technology resources, and also the confidence of being the world's greatest power...

But when it comes to free music, we have an advantage! Check this out:baidu MP3, we can download free music at anytime, it also is very fast!
Err..how bad being an American to pay for the music...
How bad being an American to have guns surrounded...
How bad being an American to have a govenment that leads its people to war with no good reason...

We are even? :ko:

On World of warcraft

,

I have been playing Wow for nearly 2 years, and have 2 60levs:a nightelf chaser and a human warrior, both are female characters.
I was absorbed into Wow the first day it came to this country. There once was a fever with it among the youth, everyone want to try to play a real 3D online game, and also it was free that time.
With no particular reason, I choose the name "hdhao", and built the character, a chaser. That's the character I played for almost a year, I never thought I would do so when it began to take up all the time I have: even in dreams.
Then, on the request of some of my classmates, I changed a sever, and got another character, a warrior and played with them. With this new one, the real meaning, the true Wow idea turned up: the Dungeons, the raid, the guild. Every minute in Wow we are raiding, or preparing for raid and the Blizzard was adding new and more powerful Dungeons patch after patch!
Since the burning crusade has not yet come to China mainland, the most powerful Dungeon now is NAXX, people really get freaked out in there! They pour more time, or even money in it just wanting to get the most powerful equipment.
That's what they do: they spent hours after hours in raiding, got the best equipment that anyone else have never seen, stand in the crowd and show themselves. And that's what they want!
I admit the most exciting things about Wow is that it requires largely of cooperation, and the joy of defeating monsters after monsters with your friends, often with hardworking. But why are the dungeons become so powerful that many player just can not have their fun in them any more?
Everyday farming, everyday raiding.
So, the players leave one by one. Some of them wait for the burning crusade, some just quit. Anyway, the "burning crusade" will never be available before May, cause the 9th City( the company that operates Wow for Blizzard in China mainland) have just got in handy a new game coming to China, the guild war, so the "burning crusade" have to make way for it. That's something to wait for! That's one reason why the Wow player call the "9th city", "dog city". A name with "dog" in it will never be a good name in China, you know.
A month ago, I finally quit. Since then, I've got to wonder why I lost myself in such a game for so long. Sometimes, people's getting lost in something is just fine, at least we should have sometime to relax, but why we are absorbed in such a game so deep, and the result hurts us so badly?
World of warcraft have some magic hidden in it, I guess…
YO, I've got another question to ask, do you have a "month card" for Wow so that you can play as long as you wanna in a whole month?
We do not, the "dog city" wouldn't do such a thing...so every hour, 0.4yuan.

Lost in "lost"

Lost in "lost"
I have been lost in "lost", the ABC TV series, for 3 days. Now I have watched Season 1 and most of Season 2,when it suddenly strike me that I don't want to watch any more.

Season 1 was great, and I even watched it for 24 hours straight! But in the middle of S2, the frequent flashback begins to annoy me, the plot begins to seem like a mess.

Now I'd like to summarize some points that I think may be annoying to the audience:
1)The flashbacks!!! When in S1, the flashbacks are great, they reveal the history of the main characters and imply their actions afterwards. But in Season 2, they become something the viewers would rather to jump over, their function seems more like to make up for the 45 minutes.
2)The whole series seem more and more like a fatalism lecture: everything happens for a reason, and everybody must abey their fate and do things according to it. This is obviously in the behaviors of Lock, who trust his fate so wildly that he indirectly caused the death of Boorn. And also, he believe the button should be pressed every 108 minutes which turned out to be a joke! Fatalism can not only be found in Lock himself, but also the whole island, full of monsters, 'The others', attacks and miseries. SO what happens in the island is like, things happen, and you can't do anything about it: you can never know where you are in the next minute, either in a monster's stomach or in a armchair listening to Mozart! What you can do now is just, feed yourself (Herly), find something to fix(Jack),or help other survivors…
3)People change. Not only the crew change rapidly, but also the character of the protagonists. For one day, the fatalism guy, Lock, was like a genius leading us, solving the problems, for another day, he change into a idiot show his 'Mona Lisa's smile', totally confused with the fight with Jack over the leadership of the survivors, I mean, how can a Saint believing and seeing everything ahead can do that? And Kate, the girl who seems to get hooked up with Jack in the very beginning of the series, suddenly become the only one to understand James, the cute and mean guy hooking rich men's wives before the crash, and seems to have a crush with him, too. Obviously, the screenwriter would like to arrange a triangle love so they have another season to run!
4)What the hell is this drama? Fiction? Science Fiction? Who knows…
They are still seeing figures that should never be there and hearing whispers in the jungle, and most amazingly, believing them.
Now I am totally lost with 'lost'!

Gate problem

Liaocheng University of Shandong Province now have troubles. It is accused by people on the Internet to have built a tremendous gate which may cost a total of 80 million Yuan! And of cause, the university denied such condemnation of being so extravagant. There also rise condemnations of schools alike.
Now many facilities in China have built great gates or buildings just to show the so called "face" of that unit, Chinese are afraid of loosing face, so are the units.

This phenomenon makes me more appreciative of my university's state: we don't have any gates to show our face, we even do not have walls to keep people out. And also, we have the confidence to show the world our figure just by our inner spiritual, cultural and academic values.
How ironic-- a university with more than a thousand years history just sits here opening her arms to the whole world, while others still building their "faces".
Thank you for reading.

Why there ain't any bookstore here?

It suddenly strike me that there ain't any real bookstores here in this higher education area of universities! Well there actually are many stores that sell used text books and fake books and magazines, which can not be called real bookstores. We have all kinds of restaurants here, we have KTV entertainments, we have Internet bars, etc. But where can I find a place to buy an real book?

Of cause, we have library from which every student can borrow 5 books each time. But as Samuel Smiles quoted, books are our constant companions and comforters, why not have the best books always by your side?

Another phenomenon I notice is that, nearly every book, borrowed or used I can see, are used only a part. The front part of the books are used and read, but the last parts of the books are just new and never been touched. As can be seen more frequently in text books and books from the library.

So why, why our higher education so flighty?

All the students are seeking a higher degree. Whatever you have learned, the society just recognize your degree. A doctor? A PHD? Welcome, we admire you! ---You just have a master's degree? Well, we've have tons of students like you, so goodbye! That's what the employers always say. The degree has become a "key" by which one can open the doors of career.
Thus, is the whole society flighty?

Attitude

Yesterday I noticed a guy with the following words printed on his colorful T-shirt:
" If you don't like my attitude just quit talking to me."
That made me wonder, what on earth the attitude is?

Anti-Spam

I've got it,the opera software explans as follows:
"We are currently testing out using Akismet to combat trackback spam and comment spam in blogs and photo albums on the Opera Community.

This means that if someone posts a comment to one of your blog entries, the contents of the comment is sent to Akismet along with the IP address of the commenter and some other information to better verify whether the comment is spam or ham. That means your new comments are by default regarded as spam, and are put into the spam-waiting list waiting for check.
The problem is,my new comment was submited maybe 10 hours ago,and is still avilable only to me.Plus the blog owner can see the comment and sent a message to me.

看完后觉得好玩,女孩们狂爱,男生们泼冷水,酸溜溜的...
当然还有理性的。
原来我说喜欢rain的一首歌,旁边朋友不屑地说:小女生听的你也听啊?顿无语。
