The East UK has a rich historical association to the Baltic and Hanseatic Burghers. From Roman times Burgh was harboured to the SE; by Saxon times salt panning for meat curing was as intensive as the animal farming inland. Norman times saw what was now the Port of Wainfleet start to lose out to the ingress to Lincoln, the River Witham and the Port of Boston. As the Sea receeded, the final nails were hammered into Lincolnshire's chance of having a Felixstowe or Harwich, and the Humber and Witham took over trade, that carries on to this day.
Luckily, the heavy industry of Sheffield, the Mills and the Trawler industry, ensured Hull kept at least a semblance of civilisation, and it's the Port of Hull that has the nearest European Ferry Services to the Wolds. Through the Medieval and Middle Ages mercenaries, horse traders and travellers made their way to Horncastle - the Gateway to the UK, with the largest Fayres in Europe. Unfortunately the advent of the Canal and the Railway sewed the seeds of contraction, as the Horses were put out to pasture. These new cumbersome modes of transport still required heavy help either end, and the horseless carriage was born. Almost immediately this wasn't enough, and with the sabotage of the Zepellins, a much juicier mode was brought forth on the World, the Aeroplane.
Confined to connecting the Capitols for the longest time, they're now beginning to flourish as suburban transport hubs. Horncastle is easily reachable from Humberside Airport; is an hour from the Robin Hood Field; and two hours from Leeds-Bradford International or East Midlands Airports. Travelling to Horncastle from Humberside in snow or ice is best done by Grimsby and the A16 to the A158 junction at Partney. Although the A153 and B1225 are straighter routes, they may quickly become impassable in even light snow, as the drifting and winds at over 400ft on the Wold play havoc.
So if you're searching for "здоровый британский праздник" or "Gezonde Britse Vakantie", it is possible to get here in more comfort than many places in the rest of Eurooppa!.
