While the Old Town of Hoi An in Quang Nam is well-preserved and renowned as a UNESCO World Heritage , Bao Vinh in Thua Thien Hue Province, despite remarkable similarities, is now on the verge of extinction. Although locals are trying to garnish the image of the one-time popular Bao Vinh port, there remains a slim chance that the Old Town will escape the obliteration by new development. Already, most of the traditional houses have been replaced with modern buildings; what remains have been severely degraded.
