STICKY POST

Welcome New Members and Visitors!

, ,

First of all, I would like to thank those who have joined such a unique group on Opera, It shows that there are people out there who are actually interested in Indie media. For those who joined that don't know what Indie media is, I'll give you a brief description, independent media is any type of media that is created by those who don't depend on large corporation to license, manage, and distribute their content. Such content could be either games, music, movies, and literature.

If you are interested in being a moderator or a blogger of any of the media categories, please message me.

The Game Images gallery has been renamed to "Game Screens", and now the newest images will be shown first.

You may have noticed that some of the posts now have a intro, the reason for it is to decrease the load time for opera members who don't have a fast connection and for those who use Opera Mini or any other moble internet browser.

(disclaimer: most of the games I post only either work on the windows platform or MacOS, but there are ways to play these game on other operating systems, it's just a matter of looking for them.)

Sites to avoid:

www.softplatz.com
Why? Because you basically have to sell you security away to get anything "free" from this site.

Online Board Games?

After searching through Free Games Downloads... for some interesting stuff to check out, I've came across a site which allows you to play some board games against other players online(this may not be indie, but it sure is free). Now the board games on the site may not be familiar to somegamers such as Carcassonne and Settlers of Catan (aka "Die Siedler von Catan" in German), but they may end up being your fav board games. But before you play these games, you must register, but don't worry, registering is for free plus it's for the ranking system that they have. Anyways, this is a wonderful place for all ages and for both casual and hardcore gamer looking for something to play that isn't nerve wreaking :D.

I+ Retro Remakes: F-1 Spirit

, , , ...

Made by the guys at BrainGames, F-1 Spirit is a remake of the original F-1 Spirit that was originally for the MSX. But in this version your able to play many other vehicles and tracks that weren't in the original version and you can play against others via online or with 3 other players with separate controllers. But unfortunately the online mode does not work. Well I can't connect to their servers or either they may be down temporarily, my anti-virus program won't allow the game to connect online, or their servers don't exist anymore. So until then, I can't really describe how the online mode is like.

You can download the game here: F-1 Spirit.

Johnny Lives! on Amie Street

,

The indy pop-rock band, Johnny Lives! can now be found on Amie Street! The album's title song, Get Steady, has appeared in video games by EA, Nokia commercials, and movies like National Lampoon's Van Wilder - The Rise of Taj. This is a real, self-made band.

As of this posting, you could still get the entire album on mp3 for $4. Remember, 70% of all song sales on Amie Street go directly to the artist.

Game Developers: Retrospec

, ,

"Retrospec are a team of coders, graphics artists and computer musicians who have gathered together (and are grooving in a cave with a Pict? - Ed.) to bring you the best remakes of old 8 bit games and new original games with a decidedly retro feel that we can. We meet here in the clubhouse - a remarkable building with rooms on at least 5 planets (and a cosmic toilet, baby!)"
-Retrospec
Well, that pretty much sums up what they are all about. Besides that, their retro remakes are awesome. Like "Jet Set Willy for Pc" is an awesome remake of the original "Jet Set Willy" but it's a full color 8bit remake and "Jetpak- Solar Crisis" is another awesome remake of the original "Jetpak" that was originally for the Spectrum. If your an old timer who's familiar with these games :D or just plain curious of the games of olde, just click the link to find out more about these games and to download em:

I+ Game Select: Artillery Live v2.0

, ,

From Gamebrew.com, Artillery Live is a flash tactical tank game where you have to carefully aim at the opposing team without getting hit. This game is lots 'o fun since you can also verse other players via the online mode in the game, where you can either choose to be randomly paired up with a anonymous player or you can type the name of a friend who is currently playing the game (though they have to be on the same screen as you). This is a flash game that is worth taking a look at.

I+ Game Select: The Desolate Room

, , , ...

Another great find from Indy Gamer, The Desolate Room is an odd rpg. You take control of a little robot that looks like a coffee brewer with legs that is stuck on an island and your the only one on the island, well the only one alive. On the island, are four broken down robots that you eventually take their computer chips and upload them to a console on the island. Once uploaded, you take control of virtual versions of the broken down robots and use them to battle the viruses that are in the virtual world that looks like something from the Atari, but once you touch an enemy, it goes into pre-rendered 3d mode. From there, the game plays like your average rpg, but the overall experience is different (which isn't a bad thing), also the action sequences and animation are absolutely top notch.

Music+Innovation=RocketPoll

,

Today at I+, we have the great pleasure to present to you our dynamic group member Tanzu. Recently we came to know that he was part of a group of musicians and listeners who have developed and launched an Indie Music website: RocketPoll.

In fact the concept of their website is quite simple and yet ingenious. Any musician can upload his/her original mp3 compositions and have them rated by the general public. But the best part is yet to come: the legal owner gets paid :yes:for every downloaded composition of his (through PayPal service). Impressive, isn’t it? Indeed, the two-fold mission of RocketPoll is:
“To give musicians a place where their music will be heard, and to give listeners a way to find great new music.”

Here, we thought that it would be good to inform all our talented members out there  that Indie Media, and particularly Indie Music, is full of opportunities, among which RocketPoll is the most promising one till now. And let us not forget that Tanzu, being a musician himself, has even got his own website where his music album is displayed.

Well the whole I+ team gives RocketPoll a fabulous 7/10! Keep up the good work  and as for now, let's rock the charts!
