ok the original Immanual Lutheran Church on Washington Street in Gary, Indiana, address I think 4200 block or so. was still there and bell gone from tower, took pic of it on a visit in 2002 I think. Had been converted prob to a home, don't think it was occupied. We as church moved to new building south of Gary in Merrillville on Harrison street, 5300 block, when I was i think about 11. But my mom took me here when we started going I was 3. Started Sunday school age 4. My mom had orig been Methodist in Illinois growing up but this was a great church to grow up with. The organ music played my Marilyn Weber the pastors wife was so majestic even in this little church. It had a cool basement to but I went at first to Sunday school in the rectory next door. This church I believe began as Catholic because to the left of this pic is a small yard and it had statue of Virgin Mary in it which is more catholic than Lutheran - always wondered about that. but this building was old when I started there. So who knows. Be interesting to find out the history of it though.
