Beam me up Scotty to a far better remembered time of my youth when my Mom and Dad convinced me that Santa did exist and that Christ was wonderful, loving and giving. The oldest of three kids, I will always treasure the images of ny sister and brother's little faces, and our dear parents love, pride and joy.

Fast foward to me at age 57 - an orphan now that my parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins are passing away. My younger brother is now battling cancer at age 52, but I still see him at age 4 playing with his tonka toys and singing carols. Although I never married or had a family of my own, I thoroughly enjoy the expressions of anticipation and innocence in those around me.

Your lovely photos remind me of my Norman Rockwell-like memories. I don't really want to remember the way that things really were as we were very poor, only the honest real way I feel, hear and smell them in my minds eye.

I have a trillion cds from Mahalia Jackson, Nat King Cole and Elvis Presley, Bing Crosby, all the way to the present which I play over and over and over adnauseaum. Just the smell of a scotch fir pine tree, the taste of my sister's awesome nutty irishman squares (we are second generation 1/4 Irish, 1/4 Scottish, and 1/2 Ukrainian - the true Heinz 57 Canadian and incredibly proud of it), or the smoothness of a large rum and egg-nog as it makes its way down into my tummy! Driving around late, each night for weeks looking at all the flashing Christmas light displays makes me feel so young, content and brings a tear to my eyes.

Now I do understand the teachings about Christ in Sunday School at a Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, United Church. Life is just all about giving: about caring about others before oneself, about volunteering to feed and clothe those at home or far away who don't have anything, or to rescuing animals and finding them forever families to adopt them.

I am so very greatful for all that I have, especially my sister, brother, three cats and three dogs who love me unconditionally. I have very little money and only casual work, but I am so proud of myself and honestly say that life has made me so much stronger, and I sense the real meaning of my life is to love.

Here is a small toast to all in 2008. May you and your loved ones remain healthy, happy and humourous. Help any living thing (including our beloved planet) and you will make our world a far better place, one small, decent deed at a time - "Pay It Forward",

Warmest Regards,

Rubynebula

isabel.... i just love the way you chime in sometimes. it's so nice to know that you are there. yes, it's no surprise that i was chosen to play the part.

doing it really touched me. i was grounded looking at those children's faces.

That was great Scott! You look great!

Santa..the ultimate giver! You were put in a place to fill the part of the 100 percent most giving 'person' of the entire modern world. What big shoes to fill, Scott and you did a wonderful job of it I am sure.

i thank you sarah for your loving comment. i love you too.

and i might add that loving and giving is harder to do than we all think.
i suppose it takes some kind of an overhaul.
my only wish now is to pull my weight.

You made a spectacular Santa! :D
I love those pics. I can't choose my favorite...but I will say..the one of you handing a gift to the elderly lady is priceless!

By DuckyChickenLady, # 14. December 2007, 13:34:47

yes, and she is a truly marvelous lady. i know her son very well. well, not really well, but i admire him.

i so admire the people who stick around. for example... i once knew a lady in her nineties.

one day, i was coming down the same street as she was. she was carrying in each hand a heavy bag. her age was ninety at least.

i will never forget that impression of her still working for the good of others.

By I_ArtMan, # 14. December 2007, 13:48:13

well, said rubynebula.
"Now I do understand the teachings about Christ in Sunday School at a Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, United Church. Life is just all about giving: about caring about others before oneself, about volunteering to feed and clothe those at home or far away who don't have anything, or to rescuing animals and finding them forever families to adopt them."

and it is such a wonderful world that people who can help others do so and continue to do so. i wonder at them and admire their ability to drop their passive complacency to do something concrete.
the wealth and goods of america especially is in such surplus but not distributed very evenly. sometimes it reminds me of the french disparity which led to the angry revolution.

it will happen here if things don't change pretty soon. we all can do a little it to give. charity has become the neglected grace. although there is very much being done. i see it on the news every day.

ty scott, the little hat was put on my kitty by Nerak, she did a great job putting hats on everyone this year. i think i will keep this one for the winter months next year as well, that way i don't have to worry about not having a kitty with a santa hat on it.
