about me

, ,

my father was the finest bow
but i was a bent arrow
however, the archer was making a trick shot.

regurgitating "the lord of the flies" by golding. circa 1960

1963, woodstock, vermont above the atlantic and pacific tea company.

at the 'fish' by the mighty jade river. upriver washington 1999

on the 'boarwalk', venice beach 2006

"adventures in the skin trade"

the graceful caring in your eyes
indelible
that smile so warm
that melted my anthracite heart

i will gladly be your fool
if you will just keep smiling
when you see me loping your way

wherever you are
ribbons of red gold

by streaming through astral rivers

yes, i say,
love driven from immeasurable altitudes
necessity, our most prime mystery
first mover of all there is

A bent arrow won´t travel the straight and narrow way.

I like bent arrows the best - also because a bent arrow might teach the archer a lesson or two about life.

The bent arrow always gets the Coyote in the ass. Always.

Scott, here's another archival look at www.hungryeyegraphics.com

Must be weird to confront seven years of history so vividly. I don't think anything I've ever done has been archived. Maybe my grade school pictures and report cards.

very cool alan.... glad you have me on tap again.

yes, matthew it does kind of give me a chill... but you know i only started this self-promotion business because i am tired of starving and begging for money to survive. and in spite of a high readership on hungryeyegraphics.com i haven't made a penny because of it.
i have to of course, add 'yet' , because hope springs eternal.

You don't spawn any so-called "real life" contacts from the site?

Marketing is not my strong suit, but I do know that there are a lot of retail failures on the internet. This is (in part) because people assume that web presence is all there is to web marketing. Apparently, there is a good deal more to it.

I am surprised that readership doesnn't translate into sales.

the only 'real life' effect has been that every now and then someone asks if he can use a drawing for a book cover. i always let them but they never pay me.

once i was watching the biography channel and they were doing 'madonna', the singer. when they were into her yoga period a montage of my drawings of the asanas i drew to illustrate "a handbook of yoga" went floating by.... they didn't even ask permission.

i put a paypal donate button and advertised it in opera when i was really desperate but that didn't work either. well, a french painter sent two dollars, and my oldest son donated $500. but that was because i called him in emeergency mode.

i've never been very lucky about money. it's afraid of me.

A less gentle man might have sued the Madonna camp.

In a relationship with money, one of you should have a healthy fear. Being too comfortable with it ill prepares one for its loss.

that's true too. anyway, nothing is enough for the man for whom enough is too little.
my complaint is that it has been so long since i have had enough.
there has to be some law in the universe that's going to balance it out eventually. maybe not. anyway, i am grateful for what i have.
and i have good friends which is a great gift.

Those universal laws baffle me. I used to asssume that balance meant balance for me. Now I think it's a system wide thing: my sorrow means a little extrahappiness somewhere else in the system. Good for them.

Good friends go a long way towards making not enough seem like plenty.

Hey there!

I stopped by to take a peek at your life, which I do frequently. This time 'round I decided to leave a comment, letting you know I was here.

See? I do notice what is going on around me.

What happened to the lord-of-the-flies-painting? Do still have it?

By E. Driver, # 30. December 2007, 17:31:08

matthew,
then again maybe it's just a kind of superstition. still working on verifying things like that. i do know that into every life a little rain must fall.

thanks, kay four, for tipping me off to your presence. and i am so glad to hear that you drop by now and then. even if you don't usually feel like commenting. as you can see i just enjoy talking and show and tell and complaining once in a while. i always appreciate comments.

that, elmar, is something of a tragedy... i cut it in half and painted on the other side. it never went further than that sketchy thing.

By I_ArtMan, # 30. December 2007, 18:46:28

avatar
Well, what can I say? I hope the two paintings worked out well.

By E. Driver, # 30. December 2007, 18:56:45

that part i don't remember. in those days i painted a lot of paintings and didn't get a picture of some of them. in those days i was a prodigy and couldn't paint fast enough to satisfy the galleries.

the lord of the flies would have been considered unsaleable by those phillistines.

by the way, elmar. i spent a long time yesterday learning arabic writing from the kid. that was so interesting. now i can read arabic. i took notes through the whole thing (seven clips). of course that doesn't mean i will know what it's saying lol. but now i could at least sound it out. i told the kid he is doing a great work towards peace in the world.

so, thank you for sharing the link.
