war protest film

, ,

my good friend mike vann went to washington a couple of months ago and made this little documentary when he returned. it is a good statement of what most people feel about the war in iraq. i don't think he will mind my spreading the short around.

just a poem and a pictureopera shirt

I think it has been way past time to bring the troops home from wars on foreign soil that we have NO business being in. Thanks for the video, Scott.

yep, marcus, we are still way too complacent about the usurpation of the 'will of the people' one really wonders why so many insane kings were named george.

by the way, if the republicans win again, i'm leaving the country.

:eyes: You shouldn't have to do that. Where would you go?

In the sixties, a lot of US-citizens went to Canada. Is that still possible?

i'm seriously thinking of belize; a small country on the caribbean. it's on the approved list of the state department. that means that my social security check can be deposited in a bank there.

also, two pluses... they speak english and it seems to be a very peaceful place. it's the same latitude as jamaica, where i grew up... well, happy years aged six to nine. plus all that sun will cure my debilitating psoriasis. makes a lot of sense. i'll be like gauguin. eat fish and bananas. also, my money will go twice as far.

i just hope they have cable internet.

avatar
Wow you got it quite well thought out, Scott.

By FXM256, # 21. January 2008, 23:49:50

avatar
it's better than that even.

i've looked at the coastline with the google world... flew down low.
the plan will be to walk south from either belize city or placencia until there are no more houses but still services. then, i'm going to find the worst house on the beach and rent it at first. then when my socail security kicks in at the highest rate (when my ex-wife reaches 65, four more years from now), i will buy the house, establish an elderly belizian woman as caretaker and travel the world. especially, florence, paris, london, iceland and greece.
that's my plan... of course "man proposes and god disposes."

at any rate, i can live well there, as soon as i am 65. nine months.

By I_ArtMan, # 22. January 2008, 00:08:03

avatar
Wow, that is a well thought out plan and it's very workable

By FXM256, # 22. January 2008, 00:22:24

avatar
yes, marcus that's the operative word... workable.
i know from the past that when i am not worried about food and bills and gas money, my impulse to work (painting, i mean), is more pure.

now i can't help thinking of 'potboilers', paintings which people will like enough to buy. that hasn't worked too well lately, but they are the only paintings which sell.

i'm afraid the world is just tired of artwork. but i'm not.

By I_ArtMan, # 22. January 2008, 21:08:18

You have art running through your veins, Scott. People like different kinds of art and you will always be able to see your paintings. Whether you are in this country, or another one.

By FXM256, # 23. January 2008, 01:43:07

avatar
i sure hope so. i'm working up to a flurry of paintings right now, now that i am settled.

mike vann wrote,
"Hi Scott,

Visually intense and visceral poety. The language and feeling
reminds me of Whitman, or D.H. Lawrence. Organic, sensual and real.
I can really dig my teeth into it.

Thanks so much for putting my film up on your website. I enjoyed
reading the comments of friends of yours and your replies too."

What a stupid thing that war!!

By minijuegos, # 24. January 2008, 17:14:42

avatar
mihirk,
what exactly didn't you understand?

minijuegos,
we think it's stupid. but someone must have thought it was the best thing to do at the time. the only thing we can do is take away the president's right to wage war without the consent of the majority of the governed.

I don't think he will mind my spreading short around" i didn't understand these words

By mihirk, # 25. January 2008, 02:20:52

oh, i didn't ask his permission to post his little movie about the war protest.

he's a good enough friend that i didn't think i had to ask.
later, he thanked me even for drawing attention to his movie (short).

'short' is what we sometimes call short documentaries...

Thank You for this! I remember a time and the memory is good, when 'it mattered to people' what happens to the 'land of the free'.

A war that should have never been. An Administration that has brought new meaning to 'broken spirit'.

You have an awesome blog!

Peace

Hello Scott, How are you?
This is a good video! Good and sweet for my heart: I'm glad to see that American people are not like their President, not all.
You know as I live in France far from your country, I think that what your President does is what American people wants. So I was afraid of America and in fact I still afraid now of Big Brother! And now in our country we have a President who love yours one, that makes me sad again and afraid for our futur in France!
After the second world war, America was a symbol of freedom in my country for a long time. I was in love with your country and dreamed to live in America. When you get your actual President I loosed that dream completly and even started to hate your country... So many bad things are from America! You know that!

And so much money spending in the Irak war now! We do the same in my country: there is so much money for weepons, bombs, video control, army, police, etc, etc...

thanks so much for the heartwarming comment. i just hope and pray that this next presidential election that the 'people' express their disapproval by voting intelligently.

je vous en remercie, claude.

and i have always dreamed of living in france.

 It's good to hear your comment Scott! I often forget that others can dream to live in my country because I'm dreaming to escape from that trade world that I also see around me here...
Poor people who believe in the TV news, that's why they can't vote intelligently! Yes did you saw those youtube videos on a TV news? No never! I discover so many things about secret governments through Internet since I haven't a TV, that I started to open my eyes on how we are manipulated. When you are workless for example, all is done to let you think that you are a lazy one. And all believe in that! They didn't imagine the trade war between big company and countries... that makes the third world and now the quarter world. I stop here my comment for thinking about other things the Nature offers freely for all of us  The ground, the fruits, the water, the sun, the flowers, the bird's sing... all for free!

By the way, you are welcome in my home Scott

you are indeed a true and sympathetic man claude. je vous enchante' a faire votre connaisance. i think that's right.

the trouble is that we could do the thoreau thing and find our walden pond, which i've tried, but then you miss all the action. but we are free... especially if we can afford to have both a full experience of months in the provinces and some months in a great city like paris, rome or new york. at any rate, in spite of my perrenial poverty, my friends all consider me to be a true bon vivant. which i can't help. it's my nature.

when i get to france, i'll look you up.

By I_ArtMan, # 26. January 2008, 21:31:17

avatar
Yes don't forget to call me if you visit the south of France

I didn't undestand those words: "thoreau", "walden" ?

Can you speak French or do you use an online translator?
The correct sentence is:

Je suis enchanté de faire votre connaissance !

Je vous en remercie aussi

By holdowicz-claude, # 26. January 2008, 21:48:52

i have been trying to learn french for years but if you don't practice... it's always full of mistakes. one year of french in high school, one year in college and some private lessons... so i try now and then to see if i can use it. of course, now that i see it 'je suis enchante' de faire votre connaissance.' je compris.

a few people in opera help me correct my francais... i want to be corrected so merci monsieur.

cool. south of france.... i've seen it in the movies.

By I_ArtMan, # 26. January 2008, 22:40:41

avatar
That's the same for me with the English! I never know if I write a good English or not... Donc je comprends !

Which movies did you see about the south of France?

Also did you see the videos I mentionned here in my first post? What do you think about them?

Have a good day Scott

By holdowicz-claude, # 27. January 2008, 10:39:00

Yes, ArtMan! :troll: My sentiments, exactly! I intend to visit another country this summer, in the hopes of teaching English there. If we vote Republican, I, too, will become an expatriot!!! Mass-exodus seems like the only, sure-fire way to get anyone's attention. :queen:
