,

wow, i won something. i never win anything, but i did win this lovely shirt.
i have never believed in wearing anything that advertised anything, but you see, there's an exception to every rule.

very nice shirt! What a natty dresser.

Congrats. How do I win one?

I have a similar rule - never pay for a shirt that has someone else's advertising on it. It's an ad - they should pay ME to wear it!

kiran,
it was an opera contest just before christmas. all you had to do is say why you should win the shirt.

kayfour,
yep, given the opportunity i am a real clotheshorse.

By I_ArtMan, # 25. January 2008, 20:13:50

avatar
matthew, that was exactly my reasoning. but i believe in opera, so it's different. it's an expensive shirt "slazenger", the makers of the famous tennis racket, my father's favorite racket.

What was your reason for why you should win the shirt?

By cakkleberrylane, # 25. January 2008, 20:18:31

avatar
congrats...i never got my t-shirt from halloween

By SqueakeyCat, # 25. January 2008, 20:18:37

avatar
And what was your answere to the question in the contest?May I know, please?

By KYren, # 25. January 2008, 20:20:21

avatar
i think i just complained that i never won anything, but if i did i would wear an opera shirt proudly... something like that.

By I_ArtMan, # 25. January 2008, 20:22:14

avatar
Seems like it was a good answer. After all, it got you the shirt!

I wish you always win something from now on.I had only won a trophy once for scoring heighest in a computer class.I said just a few words in my speech.I am very shy.

By KYren, # 25. January 2008, 20:30:54

avatar
lois,
i must remember to beg more.lol

thanks kiran for the wish. shy will go away in time.

Welcome
Shy will go away in time. What do you mean?

By KYren, # 25. January 2008, 20:54:24

avatar
you're young and sensitive. after you've experienced more exposure with people, you will trust yourself more. that's what i meant.

By I_ArtMan, # 25. January 2008, 20:57:30

avatar
Thank you friend.Have you had any occasion when you spoke in front of hundreds of people?

By KYren, # 25. January 2008, 21:08:13

avatar
yes, i still get very excited, but i am confident that i will be myself and still be liked.
many times i've recited my poems in public.

and i have been known to tell a story or two in groups of many people. it's very exhilarating. i recommend it.
we should do what bothers us to get past the fear.

By I_ArtMan, # 25. January 2008, 21:16:45

avatar
Yay! :hat: Congrats! & I love the picture!! :D

i took a few... something funny about my nose in this one lol but it was the most exuberant one so it won the cut.

By I_ArtMan, # 25. January 2008, 21:23:35

By KYren, # 25. January 2008, 21:39:32

I have to speak to hundreds, on occasion. I've never grown comfortable with it.

By noah counte, # 26. January 2008, 00:56:50

avatar
kiran, your english is amazing. much better than my french or spanish.

fati, very kind of you to say so.

matthew, i hope i didn't imply that it was easy. i go to a strange place in my head when i am being listened to and watched by a large group of people. i just meant that i'm not afraid to go through it again. there are some energy accumulations that are nothing to sniff at.

By I_ArtMan, # 26. January 2008, 02:13:30

avatar
I get nervous for days, and it exhausts me.

I knew you weren't saying it was easy. I was just saying that for me, it's not just work, it's uncomfortable. lol.

By noah counte, # 26. January 2008, 02:28:27

Thank you.I wish I should have a complete command over at least one language and that should be english. What should I do.

By KYren, # 26. January 2008, 10:24:11

By KYren, # 26. January 2008, 10:24:42

avatar
matthew... hmmmm don't do it. i mean don't think about it. lol
apart from knowing what you are going to say , of course.

read read read kiran... with a dictionery or at least a notebook by your side. learn new words every day. in time you will have it.
read the great novels of all countries in english. that's all i can suggest.

By I_ArtMan, # 26. January 2008, 21:23:24

avatar
Preparation is work. LOL. Lots of work!

By noah counte, # 26. January 2008, 22:52:01

avatar
I will read the novels,Scott.Thank you.

By KYren, # 26. January 2008, 23:14:33

avatar
is work a four letter word matthew? lol

cool kiran. that will help so much. plus we learn a lot from novels. the good ones at least. the classics.

By I_ArtMan, # 27. January 2008, 02:31:14

avatar
No. Work is good - but that is the kind of work you cannot finish (for me). It means long days, late nights, and, in the end, imperfection.

By noah counte, # 27. January 2008, 02:40:53

avatar
huh. i get it. you know something is missing.

it's cool. dissatisfaction is a sign of growth. maybe more presence will help.

By I_ArtMan, # 27. January 2008, 03:36:45

avatar
Dissatisfaction can be a sign of growth. Or a sign of insecurity.

The funny things is, I give roughly the same presentation regularly, and I always work on it for 15 hours before hand. And it's still never done...

By noah counte, # 27. January 2008, 03:49:04

The classics?

OMG! i have the same one!! maybe i should take a pic opening my arms wide just like YOU!

By naoo, # 15. February 2008, 07:52:07

yes... of course, don't you want to express that it makes you happy?

By I_ArtMan, # 15. February 2008, 07:58:55

an oversight... back to kiran. sorry dear friend. in my 'busyness' i neglected to respond to that question.
on another post, inspired by a list i made for a great friend i found in venice, and even forwarded to my youngest son. to save ink? no.

but when we talk of the classics we speak of time. if a work of any artist were to survive through a century or two, it would be considered a classic.

once we have the classics read we can read anything that comes out way, a lot of which is just fluff or routine or formula writing.

my point in injecting this warning about the time it takes to read a book well, is the main reason for reading the classics primarily. at least in an equal amount.
when i was thirteen, in my private attic, with a hotplate for tea, i would read the classics.... from homer to saroyan's 'homer', in the 'human comedy'

the link forthcomeing... have to find it.
