peace on earth

our world has come a long way.
i would just like to hear a voice in appreciation of the compassionate efforts of so many undaunted men and women, through time, who devoted their lives to the future good and who have brought some of us out of pestilence and disorder.
we are still plagued by the seeming inevitability of a madness that possesses the body politic and it's loyal adherents to engage in a periodic slaughter of humanity indiscrimitately ; and for specious reasons.
if we were all to raise a cry of "mercy"; a prayer for the conscience of mankind to root itself in each and every mind. we might stop this grievous error of war for all time.
then we could pursue more life-enhancing activities and find a way to care for and feed and clothe and house the whole of humankind in a dignified and meaningful fashion. every way of life could be allowed, so long as each individual's pursuit of their own happiness be lawful and not extreme.
there is no higher order i can think of than that we think and work together to eradicate ignorance, bigotry and self-serving self-protective deceit. and most of all we must get over our present universal scourge of greed.
that's just my opinion.

If we ignore that fact, we run the risk of being overtaken by aggression before we get a chance to stop it. Think of road-rage as an example.
If we, on the other hand, acknowledge our aggression, we can stay on guard and fight it back by transforming the aggression into compassion and understanding.
This goes for the personal as well as the national level. Basic psychological reactions tend to always be top of mind. What we need to do is to take control of our instincts.
I think that is what we call civilization.
It's true what they said in the sixties - peace, love and understanding.

if i work on myself, i will be helping others.
nic,
that's a very generous thought.
good point lois, thanks for the input. more awareness of the effect i am having on the world.
allan, you put your finger on it when you talk about seeing in myself all those traits and tendencies. struggling with the useless negative emotions can make a difference.
matt,
i agree that we are all connected by our actions.

If we all start out with a smile and a helping hand, realizing that some people have to do it by themselves, if we don't force our beliefs and "helpfulness" on others, realizing that some people are happy the way they, if we don't get mad that our efforts are rejected, realizing that and accepting that without malice and hurt, I humbly think life would be better.
Some people want to change the world to their "image", their "ideal", not realizing that others have their own "images" and "ideals"; too many people want to do good within their own belief systems only.
It starts with a smile and a welcoming of that smile...

I know the feeling!
My office is at the lobby of the building I live in,
the studio is on the 4th floor (I share with a friend she does all the dirty work),
I have a house helper 3 times a week!
No transportation required for most of my activities.
Still I find myself overwhelmed.
I did follow your advice and I slept 5 hours last night!
thanks for carrying.
How big is your garden??
Is it the one in the pictures ??? You have a picture with the long table and a garden in the back ground
(or you had one ).
I need to go back and see your pictures again it has been some time !
I did see the banners but I am totally not adding anything extra in my post displays ( I don't know how )

now, i just have basil, chives, rosemary, oregano. i have an aloe, and two tomato plants. oh, and a morning glory starting up the yukka tree.
By I_ArtMan, # 15. April 2008, 22:51:00
do you ever rub the lemon trees leaves and then have that smell in your hand all day long???
I have a lemon tree in my Greek house
I have an oregano patch in Greece too! I brought dry oregano back with me....
every time I use it now days in my Greek meat balls it feels like being back home!! The best it is when I spread it on feta cheese with extra virgin olive.
when you remove the leaves from the dry oregano do you brake them by hand or a blender??
I find braking the leaves by hand keeps the aroma much longer !
do you plant hot peppers???
By ellinidata, # 15. April 2008, 23:48:22
i always condition herbs by hand. i like it that way. one of the best herbs for aromatic aroma therapy is lovage... smells a little like 'bay rum'
no i don't have any peppers yet. i just get my jalapenos at the store.
i always have to remember to wash my hands after playing with them. man, does it burn when you get it in your eyes.
right now i'm looking for a picture of a nice seaport town with white buildings... some greek isle. maybe mitilini. have any like that?

people just don't have the objectivity to consider the effect of their actions on others. well, to care also.

Ellie's last name is a name of shepherds. In Greece there are groups that they are identified by the way their last name ends.
So, she is not having lesbian blood (not that there is any thing wrong with that ! )
Her ancestors must have been Slavs and they must had immigrated to Greece.
Cretans have the end of their last name in -akis the group from Pontos the Greeks from Bosporus ( now days Turkey), are ending in -idis
My grand father was born in Anatolia and my maiden last name ends in -oudis.
My marital last name is Cypriot since my late husband was half Cypriot and half Lesbian as he used to say.
A name can tell you the Greek state they were born or the behavior of a person.
Ellie is not a lesbian. Leave that wild idea
