fun with art

, ,

i just can't help it... whatever i do i always wind up having fun with it.
i'll just playfully throw this new cover design which i know no one in publishing will dare to use. it's just a satire on what sells things in our sex-crazed society.

preview and new portraita dash? i am a dash?

I think Mitch won't mind to have a personal copy of his book with this cover !

as for the sex selling concept,
find me one that doesn't feel good after sex and I will be the first to reject the idea

Missing you!

Andres Rodriguez Guapacha 20. June 2008, 20:23

Asexuals? P:

scott cumming 20. June 2008, 20:40

lol, you're right. missing you too  it hasn't helped to have my nose to the grindstone. the more i do it seems the more obstacles crop up. so i'm going to just cool it a little and have fun once in a while in opera and 'secondlife'.

this morning was the last straw... stumbling to the stove this morning to get the coffee going i leaned on a shelf i use to hold books and videos etc.. it was way overloaded anyway and just a touch seemed to bring it crashing down from the wall all scraping my bare legs and ankles until i was buried up to my shins.

don't laugh.

i just left it. i don't know where to start. if only i had a real bookcase.

then i tried for two hours to get my computer to admit that it has a dvd writer and a cd writer so i could work on collecting clips from movies for this website i'm working on. still no dice. i really really really don't want to do a full system recovery. so i'm stalling.

scott cumming 20. June 2008, 20:44

@fox eunuchs excepted.

Angeliki 20. June 2008, 20:54

"don't laugh"

I don't laugh I feel you need a hug !

now I do smile when I see the "word origins dictionary " on the floor , since your knowledge is amazing!!!!

I kiss you with a lot of "meli"

Naomi 20. June 2008, 21:44

Scott-
Thank you for sharing your crappy day with me; it's making me feel marginally better about the crappy day I've had.

That woman is in great shape, by the way!
Naomi

Angeliki 20. June 2008, 21:51

Naomi,
sorry you had a bad day
you deserve a hug

as for the woman,
she is 20!!!!
let her be 40 plus and then tell me about her!
ha! I had to take this off my chest! p:

scott cumming 20. June 2008, 21:56

thanks my meli... you have good eyes. well, after writing about it, i faced it. it wasn't so bad. i used the same holes but filled them with glue and sent fatter longer screws in. now i'm waiting for the glue to dry.

to make things even more distracting the electricity went off becsuse it'ss over a hundred degrees outside. am i the only one who won't use the air conditioner so the black out won't happen? it's not that bad. the shower works.

there could be a good side to it. the shock to my computer from electrical outage might just jump start the dvd and cd drives? yeah, sure... dream on mcduff.

naomi,
we're all in the same boat aren't we.
i was walking in the theatre district in north hollywood and reading the reviews posted in windows and came across this great line from the play.

"aren't we all just like trees in the forest waiting for lightning to strike?" love that.

but let's not get cynical it's still better to be alive than dead.no matter what happens almost.
like the mulla said "if i survive this life, i'll be surprised."

Angeliki 20. June 2008, 22:40

the mulla also said, "as long as I live I am immortal!" the God in you will find the solutions!
I hope the glue works!
I wish you were closer!
I was going to help you with that book case! or at least make a Greek 'spanakopita" for you!

scott cumming 20. June 2008, 22:49

ahh, that would have been nice. good mulla quote... adding it to my collection. it's all in my head which is made of super glue when it comes to the incomparable wisdom of mulla nasr eddin.

i guess i'll just have to settle for a ham sandwich.

PainterWoman 21. June 2008, 00:56

Sorry about your shelf. I've had things like that happen numerous times. In fact, my whole studio looked like that before I got someone to build me some custom shelves. What a lifesaver that was. Eventually, I'll get some pics of it to post.

So, it's hot there too! The last few days has been 111, 112, 113, and today it hit 114 here in Phoenix. I put bowls of water out for the birds in my yard because they kept coming up on my patio and drinking out of the dogs' water bowl. Even the water in the bowl is hot. I've got one inside too for the dogs because they won't touch the one outside. At 10 pm it is still 101 to 105.:faint:

My brother and his wife took me for a drive up to Prescott where it's about ten to 15 degrees cooler. It really makes a difference. They bought me a birthday lunch at The Peacock Lounge. Then we drove around and looked at older homes for sale. Who knows, I still might move.

Angeliki 21. June 2008, 02:23

PainterWoman,

I hope you get some relief soon!

In NYC last week it was really bad.
The 100F felt even more in the city with the high rise bldgs.
Today it is in the 80's and it feels so great!
I hope you get a little rain. That will help.
Listening that Missouri will get more rain tomorrow it makes one thing how unbalanced our climate in the US turned to be...Stay safe.

Angeliki 21. June 2008, 02:26

Scott Enjoy your ham sandwich,

as for mulla nasr eddin , I was tempted often to start reactivating your post....
I might do that.

Any news from your cyber twin??

Angeliki 21. June 2008, 03:38

I was just reading some Art News at my friends YooperProf post,
I thought you might enjoy them too

scott cumming 21. June 2008, 03:50

well, i could fry an egg on the hood of my car but i can't compete with you tripple digits painterwoman. it was only 106 here today. so glad you are thinking of the animals.

angeliki, those cybertwin people are too embarassed to even talk to me now. they can't fix it and i'm not about to invest those hours to get him to speak with a civil tongue. so the worst thing is still having a computer so stupid that when i ask it to read a drive or save to a drive it keeps idiotically telling me put a disc in drive e, put a disc in drive f and try again. so you do it again and get the same flying inanity.

well, i goofed off today so now i'm going to have to work all night until i get this fixed. i printed out all the instructions. my 500 gigabite storage is disconnected so it won't be disturbed by the cutting and pounding i'm about to do. maybe if i mmersed the whole pavilion 764c in the bathtub it will get hip.

so here's the state of the shelves now... brackets propped and glue drying.

and here's the sandwich

and i know meli's sharp eyes will want to see this happenstance baseball card of caitlin.

and finally, at 4:45 today it was possible to stand an egg up (summer solstice event. so i did.

Angeliki 21. June 2008, 04:02

exactly!
my sweet Caitlin !
This is a nice book end! precious for many reasons!!!!!

I love a man that eats fresh onions with his sandwich! thats shows a healthy heart and a fantastic blood flow!!

Yes, "meli" gets fresh and she will stop right now!

The book case looks to hold and with the hot weather I am sure it will dry over night!

Don't be frustrated with the computer...Think positive. At least you are not in India with 10288476575 F heat helping customers fixing their computers all day long!
see you feel better already!
we have finally a rain storm...I am glad I didn't let my house help clean any windows. They would have been the same after this storm!

P.S. Aren't those too many and too big of carrots over there??
I am letting you work , hugs!

scott cumming 21. June 2008, 04:09

yes, the carrots are waiting for the experience of their lifetime. the juicer. that's how i stay healthy... i can drink that whole package... good with an apple, fresh ginger, for the heart also, and don't forget a bunch of juicy celery.

Angeliki 21. June 2008, 04:30

speaking of celery,
that's my bkfst choice.
1 apple, 3stacks of celery, 1 lime all juiced . Not only refreshing and healthy but delicious too!
I am a proud friend!
stay healthy ,with Gods help ,we will have fun for at least another 20 years :D

P>S> Thank you for the amazing car art!!!! AMAZING!!! I love it !

Edward Piercy 21. June 2008, 05:16

Angeliki gave me the word up on the photo. So you know me -- so to speak -- I just had to visit and check it out. Definitely a girl for those "androgynous" moments. Have to put her in a Boy Scout uniform or something.

I'm sorry! Strange echos of F. Scott Fitzgerald and The Great Gatsby here.

And then I noticed the pickle. And unfortunately I'm all out of pickles right now, which I love. Damn! I think the pickle and the Reisling I'm drinking would have been damn good together.

Nicolas Borgsmidt 21. June 2008, 07:39

I wish I live closer to you Scott. I could build a good solid book shelf for you in no time. :D Then you could pay me with a good dinner and a small painting

scott cumming 21. June 2008, 23:11

yeah right nic... that would be a good deal for me. i would do it myself but i sold all my tools.

ed, tit for tat. my pickle got you going but your reisling made me jealous. great gatsby... story of my life. early life anyway.
there has to be some reason why pickles are so apetizing. i'll just bet that they help with digestion. i'm gonna go get one right now. and a little brie and crackers but no riesling arrggh.

meli,
pass the car art around... everyone will dig it.

Angeliki 21. June 2008, 23:35

I sure will,
"meli" likes a sweet thing to be known! and that is as sweet as a honey comb in a fasting day!

scott cumming 22. June 2008, 03:15

honey comb in a fasting day.... i love it.

i just love being alive
being a love in the hive
sure i'm a grand idiot
as genuine as the sunrise

my folly is my strength
the wise men say
it goes to any length
to keep my piece in play

as sure as night follows day
my work will be my play
and who dares gainsay
the wisdom of the way

Angeliki 22. June 2008, 03:33

thanks...

This is an
absolutely lovely poem,
Pls check your email for "dirty cars art #2"
"meli" happens to like things you do...

scott cumming 22. June 2008, 03:49

awww thanks. you are great. i'll check it right now.

Angeliki 22. June 2008, 03:52

Eliane a/k/a Elly 22. June 2008, 04:01

When my cd/DVD drive doesn't work, it is often because the blank is defective! I have found that blanks tend to be now more so than when blanks first started being sold.

So, then, I have to put another blank in and throw out the one that doesn't register.

Sorry about your bad day. Things can only get better.

Take care.

scott cumming 22. June 2008, 04:42

mom,
thanks for the tip but that's not it. i just spent two ten hour days at hewlett packard and microsoft downloading patches and programs and reaching into the very depths of the iceberg... a great exercise in attention but i am afraid i have a problem tha may not be fixable. like the drives are worn out or there is a built in obsolesence feature that cannot be circumvented.

Nicolas Borgsmidt 22. June 2008, 08:51

Too bad Scott, but I know the feeling...being poor that is :frown:
Had to sell my piano in order to get a bike  I still have my tools though. Saved me a lot of money, they have. How´s your painting coming on?

Eliane a/k/a Elly 22. June 2008, 20:27

Our main drive wore out! It was terrible!!!! Got a new one, and am happy now, though.

scott cumming 22. June 2008, 23:13

no paintying right now nic, trying to make some money. that must have been hard, selling your piano.

oh mom, that was terrible. at least this time i had enough money to get a 500 gigabite external drive. so even if i do recover back to factory settings it won't be the ordeal it was the last time.

Nicolas Borgsmidt 23. June 2008, 06:15

Oh...hope you get back behind the canvas, where you belong, soon
Selling the piano was terrible. I´ll never do a thing like that again. Have got another one now. Not even near the same quality, but it´ll do. It needs tuning badly :D

Norfrid 23. June 2008, 15:57

Hi! Nice and cool on this side of the pond, but we didn't need the rain now that the hay was dry. I am trying to avoid my book shelf ending up like yours, so I've started to give away books to anyone who can find a book of interest. Of course some of my books are holy and will never leave the house. About that egg; I didn't know that it could stand like that on one certain day. There is always something to learn from your blog.

scott cumming 23. June 2008, 22:36

nic,
that's too bad. well, tune the new one and enjoy it. don look back.

norfrid,
yes, it's true. summer solstice at the exact time of equilibrium. this was just because someone reminded me of it. i had seen it before when i was a kid.

Nicolas Borgsmidt 24. June 2008, 04:07

I will (tuning) and I won´t (look back) :D

lokutus_prime 24. June 2008, 15:02

hello again Scott,
i don't have a lot to add to all of this.
there are greater minds than mine here, and they have already said what i would have said, if i had got here earlier and had i the wit or imagination to say such things.

i nodded when i read :

but let's not get cynical it's still better to be alive than dead.no matter what happens almost.
like the mulla said "if i survive this life, i'll be surprised."

scott cumming 24. June 2008, 20:27

always a pleasure to see your name in my comments loku, english brother.

nic,
i had a piano once. i built a chimney for someone who had no money but traded his piano for my work. it was a player piano. but i had a friend tune it for me. i did replace some of the pneumatic tubes myself though. the kids used to love to put a roll in and pump the pedals. it came with a box of 'rolls' pianola they call it.

lokutus_prime 24. June 2008, 20:42

i remember pianolas. i had piano lessons as a kid and there were times when i wished the upright we had in my home was a pianola :D

scott cumming 25. June 2008, 06:24

rhapsody in blue... i remember. after i didn't have the rolls any more i suddenly find out that someone would have give $10,000 for that one roll. lol a day late and a dollar short.

Nicolas Borgsmidt 25. June 2008, 12:02

I love my upright. I have paintings stored behind it

Angeliki 25. June 2008, 12:05

now we know where to see for hidden treasures

Naomi 25. June 2008, 23:31

Scott-Sorry I've been away for a while. I've been working like crazy. Your quote:
"aren't we all just like trees in the forest waiting for lightning to strike?" !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think someone must have put a "kick me" sign on my back last week. I am happy to say that it seems to have been removed this week.

Angeliki 26. June 2008, 01:35

Naomi I hope the sign this week says "kiss me "

Angeliki 26. June 2008, 01:40

@Scott,
I hope you are well and the book case is holding!
missing you!

scott cumming 26. June 2008, 05:56

nic, save them all. but our best work is yet to come. no?

meli, bookcase is holding with less weight. so happy to have you in my corner.

naomi, i know how that 'kick me' sign feels. and yet we go on courageously, not because of some blind expectation but from a true aim. (not always known). understanding is to trust the force which supports our clean aim. this may seem too mystical. but it's very practical. there is a higher aim than mine. when i correspond in kind, i am helped. when i resist and wish only for glory or peace or whatever is easiest, i wear a kick me sign. it's the grandest mystery.

i may be a little quick in these responses because... all hell may break loose in this computer as i go around and exorcise the errors.

also, tomorrow,i'm installing two new disc drives, thanks to my friend, mitch. we went together to frys and gathered the hardware.
after i get the new drives connected and software installed. i am going to run the eight recovery discs from hewlett packard.

if it doesn't work... you won't hear from me for a while. i have to because i can tell that it's all gummed up. the best thing is to go back to factory settings. then when this poor four year old computer wakes up from it's bad dream. it will be happy because it will be free.

to be continued....

lokutus_prime 26. June 2008, 08:14

" then when this poor four year old computer wakes up from it's bad dream. it will be happy because it will be free."

Unlock the
mystery within
while holding on
to cheerful grin.

Hard the way
and tough the task
in recovering
what ye ask.

Speed on,
good friend,
speed on I say,

for Victory
is on
the way.

Angeliki 26. June 2008, 10:10

gald to be in your corner too,
good luck with all the operations!
Mitch is the man!

scott cumming 26. June 2008, 19:13

thanks for the poem lokutus, big bro. i appreciate the paen to the gods. support helps.

meli,
i put a vase of flowers in your corner, just for you. haven't done it yet. just backing up stuff still. but after lunch... here goes.

Nicolas Borgsmidt 26. June 2008, 21:30

You´re right. Our best work is always yet to come. That fact keeps you going. My latest painting is really giving me a hard time. But I´ve managed not to spoil it yet :D , but it has taken ower the proces completely....I just have to follow :left:

Naomi 26. June 2008, 22:45

Just had another "kick me" moment. The universe is trying to teach me to stop being so damned hypersensitive.
