christmas post

, , , , ,

if you think of where i was two years ago, you will know why i am so happy now.

i am so grateful this christmas and i now know the secret of life
pay your dues and enjoy it.

for a couple of months, i and some others learned linoleum block printing.
we made some holiday cards. some are below and some are in the album.
http://my.opera.com/I_ArtMan/albums/show.dml?id=660127
we had a great christmas sale and made lots of money for our club.

the other night it was raining hard and really cold. i was out hunting for a christmas tree.
i love the cold... it reminded me of new york... always a struggle with the weather and the cold.

tonight i am going to my friend's 49th birthday party in topanga canyon. then tuesday i have a christmas party where i will bring my first attempt at greek baklava. then on christmas day, i've been invited to a christmas dinner. but i will open my presents christmas morning just like a little kid.

i wish everyone a happy holiday. may you all feel loved. i do.

Absolutely love the lino block prints! Congrats on the making some money on your art. Your tree is very pretty.

Have a wonderful Christmas Scott.

Olgita 20. December 2008, 22:03

Scott! Those postcards are really special and awsome!!!!

DBabbit 20. December 2008, 22:06

Merry Christmas, Scott. Beautiful work - I love the detail, and your tree is just glowing!

I_ArtMan 20. December 2008, 22:40

hi, pam, merry christmas. yes, and i had fun doing the work too.

thanks olga, nice of you to comment... glad you liked the post.

babs, merry christmas to you too... love my tree
not even finished in this picture. mike is coming later today for hors d'ouevres and tree trimming so i saved a few boxes of ornaments for him to get into the spirit. no tinsel this year. i don't know what happened to tinsel... i went to six stores looking for tinsel... maybe tinsel strangled someone last year and it's outlawed.

DBabbit 20. December 2008, 22:49

You could always get creative with aluminum foil and a paper shredder! I noticed a tinsel shortage too, but I save mine from year to year until it just looks too bad to use. :D Merry Christmas to Mark too then! Tree trimming does lift the spirits!

PainterWoman 20. December 2008, 22:58

Remember the tinsel from 50 yrs ago, that was outlawed because it had lead in it?!

I found a nice alternative to tinsel. It comes in a long, thin wire loop thing with little stars on it. The wire is wrapped in the same colors as the stars. I got a red one and a gold one. Very pretty and sparkly. My tree is only three feet tall so these two strands of wire tinsel wrapped around my tree several times. I'll have a photo up of it soon.

I_ArtMan 20. December 2008, 23:06

i guess it's just the end of an era... i remember lead tinsel. it was far superior... had some weight. i guess kids were eating it. but until this year there has been a plastic substitute that created the same effect as icicles.
but thanks both for the suggestions. i will go out immediately and buy a shredder... j/k it's not that important.

ricewood 20. December 2008, 23:15

Lovely entry. I like all of it. Happy Holidays to you, too.

DBabbit 20. December 2008, 23:19

I've seen those, Pam. There used to be that larger tinsel too, but I didn't see any this year.

ellinidata 20. December 2008, 23:26

meli,

I think where you were two years ago ,
and I am very proud of you for today
I think of where you will be in two years and I smile....South America,
fishing for your lady by the shore and remembering this Xmas and your Opera pals that got to know you, love you and care about you more than you think!
Merry Chrismas Scott!
You are worth every single present you will open on Xmas morning and many more!
I love you always

I_ArtMan 20. December 2008, 23:41

hey alan,
thanks for dropping by... did you get the eggnog?

meli,
thanks for that.   i know you know me better than anyone. you are very special to me. you really watched me drag myself out of total disaster to normalcy.

last week i found a beautiful tall real wood bookcase in the dutch style with tall shelves for my art books. today i found the final bookcase, a red one and it's real wood. now i don't need anything. :psmurf:

ellinidata 20. December 2008, 23:57

I am still watching you meli with pride, I love what I see !

:hat: for things that have the "right" price!!!
I found two French table lamps from the 30's and they are my favorite for years!

noah counte 21. December 2008, 00:04

momable 21. December 2008, 00:29

meli, if you mean free.... yes that's the right price. why do youthink they refer to me as 'scot free'

hi matthew,
have some eggnog, you'll be fine. glad you could drop by.

Stardancer 21. December 2008, 00:33

Merry Christmas!

I_ArtMan 21. December 2008, 00:38

hi star, merry christmas to you too.

momable 21. December 2008, 00:49

Don't ya like the poem??? Does it show? If not, I put it on my blog, too.

Happy holidays!

Starphoenix 21. December 2008, 01:05

Merry Christmas, Scott. Your tree is lovely. (I like string beads myself, instead of tinsel. My cats think tinsel is their own personal playtoy.) Your prints are beautiful, too. Such a talented artist! I'm glad you're doing well and happy this Christmas.

SqueakeyCat 21. December 2008, 01:12

Merry Christmas Scott

ellinidata 21. December 2008, 01:13

"Scott free"?
because you are free like an Eagle! and that will never change no mater what!

"Scott free" because he is enjoying free things too p:

ellinidata 21. December 2008, 01:16

Wow!
Scott
see the commenting time difference btwn you and mom's ! just a breath of a difference !! cross commenting never came this close!!!

I_ArtMan 21. December 2008, 01:30

hi starphoenix... did you get some eggnog while you were here? thanks for dropping by.

hi kim,
get your card yet? sent a couple of days ago.

yes meli, that was something wasn't it? i had to mention that. i would never ignore a poem.
yes yes yes to freedom, it's a life's work finding the right way to be free. it isn't in detaching from things... more like choosing to activate the yes principle.

i may leave suddenly... mike is driving me... he is stuck in traffic. this is latt (los angeles traffic terrible)

ellinidata 21. December 2008, 01:39

say "hello" to Mike,
you two drive safe,
and knowing you
I should wish you a great Sunday too!
see you on Monday :D

I_ArtMan 21. December 2008, 01:53

I_ArtMan 21. December 2008, 21:22

yes lea,
for the 2010 calendar i am going to do another mullah nasr eddin illustrated stories. this time they will be block prints in color (four blocks per illustration)... a very big job.
but it will be worth the effort. i have always loved the mullah nasr eddin stories and can tell about one hundred of them. the old calendar was black and white (scratchboard) i have posted at least three pages from that one.
merry christmas.

crudelia,
that's so cute. thank you for coming and for your comment. yes, we can give our love all year round when we remember.

grandone 21. December 2008, 21:49

A very merry Christmas to you. If we can each find ourselves just a little bit better each year, then somehow we always come out on top.

Christmas is supposed to be cold and snowy, isn't it? We certainly have the cold, but the snow has come and gone. We can all make a little snow in our hearts and remember what this time of year is really all about.

Hope you have an enjoyable time with all your friends, Scott.

From the grandone - - - all the best

ellinidata 22. December 2008, 00:54

so, how was the B-Day party??
New York is very cold tonight, the streets and sidewalks are are clean from the snow and my neighborhood is bright with all the Xmas lights blinking in the frond yards!

I_ArtMan 22. December 2008, 02:36

meli, new york sounds just beautiful to me... even with the cold.

the party was ultra cool. my friend alan was the chef with three other cooks serving over 150 people. there were long lines for food.
also there was more than enough excitement and fun and plenty of goodies. i don't drink but they had a very top shelf bar. i had ginger ale. anyway, i had a wonderful time and left at about 2:30 a.m.
there was a stage and a band that was so cool, after their sets they jammed in the house. when i left, they were still jamming. unforgettable party. i took about 80 pictures. and three short videos that are dark but i did it for the songs.

it was cold but there were four open fires and a few electric parabolic heaters. i danced.

DBabbit 22. December 2008, 02:58

Glad you had a great time, Scott! Sounds like it was fun!

ellinidata 22. December 2008, 03:25

:hat: for an evening well spend!!!
I am delighted to know you danced!
Listening to music only it is for a living room not in a party!
I am not a dancer any longer but I love watching
2:30 its a good time to leave,
actually I think I went to bed at that time
and I wanst in a party
I was in my kitchen baking almond cookies for Xmas ....
I hope your pictures/videos on Tuesday are brighter
and maybe you can share with us one or two!!

New York is beautiful...always alive, always interesting

I_ArtMan 22. December 2008, 04:18

i always get a kick out of meeting new people and getting into the spirit of a party. letting go a little and laughing a lot.
yeah new york is the best city in the world. i always called it the belly of the beast. affectionately of course.

nopanic 22. December 2008, 07:41

Merry Christmas Scott
So good to read that good times are with you. Creative Christmas indeed!
I so much like the last pic of your painting! Very expressive

Wakajawaka 22. December 2008, 17:03

Merry Christmas to you Scott!!

ellinidata 22. December 2008, 19:36

meli,
I just came back from Canal Street,
it is very cold today but I stopped and got hot black Chinese tea with a dash of cinnamon, hmmmmmmmmmmmm so good!
Chinese ladies(from China town)
were selling immitation pocket books
and when one said"want a bag" I thought she said "want a hat"
I was so cold I would have bought a blanket from her!

going back to the party...
isn't amazing how much you can learn about a person in a gathering?? I watch people ,
especially the jealous wives that are always close to that poor husband !it is like they wish the poor man never to talk to another female...

how many people do you think will be tomorrow night???

my guests arrive from Maryland around 9-10pm tonight, they stay at the hotel across the Boulevard and till the evening of the 25th I will most probably visit posts but I won't have time to comment ...

BabyJay99 23. December 2008, 00:33

Thanks Sir Scott. Can it be purchased? Merry Christmas

I_ArtMan 23. December 2008, 02:39

merry christmas nic... thanks for the comment.

waka, thank you... same to you
meli,
tomorrow's party is smaller... probably about 40 through the night. went to this two years ago. a very nice traditional christmas party given by spinster sisters... piano music, christmas carols and lots of good food.

the icy grip of winter... just in from the news. boy, i am i glad i am in los angeles now. i hope your guests arrive safely meli

lea,
i'm confused can what be purchased? the painting nic mentioned?

BabyJay99 23. December 2008, 15:58

The next 2009/2010 calendar

I_ArtMan 23. December 2008, 18:45

fantastic lea... a wonder of a tree, it is.

yes, i will make enough extras for pre-orders. i'll let you know and post sample pages. when the time comes... when the year rolls around again.

thesamanyolu 23. December 2008, 20:50

edwardpiercy 24. December 2008, 00:17

So, two years ago you were in the Land of the Highly Pixelated Photos? A sad thing, that. I'm glad you are doing much better.

Nice cards. I looked at that one holy family card and at first I thought it was Don Quixote and Sancho Panza. But then I thought to myself, that can't possibly be right...

Merry Christmas, Scott. I hope Santa brings you everything you asked for.

I_ArtMan 24. December 2008, 00:24

thanks ed, i thought it looked more like mullah nasr eddin myself...
we each see through a glass darkly, i guess. thanks for stopping in. come back a little later and feast your eyes on meli's baklava.

edwardpiercy 24. December 2008, 00:35

I'll assume that's not a metaphor.

ellinidata 24. December 2008, 04:13

my "baklava" Eddie ,
the one that can be baked!
darn it
you make me say things that make no sense!
