in a nutshell

, , , ,

it's so easy to lose your balance in life as it flows so fast.
anyone is likely to do something they will be ashamed of.
that is why i never blame anyone.
there is nothing to forgive except the whole picture... all of life, all of consciousness and the lack of consciousness. history and the future are not factors here. only the moment.. the critical present where all the forces engendered fight for supremacy.

the balance of an ordinary man is always at risk when emotions rule the moment.
to work to maintain a quiet presence of mind no matter what occurs
is to find the independent self and ipso facto, freedom.
knowing this, one enters into action fearlessly seeking to command only one element, the self;
undeluded and de-hypnotized from the power of pressing conditions.

Wise words indeed! I hope your Christmas day was a beautiful one.

I_ArtMan 26. December 2008, 10:33

oh yes, it was magical. and memorable.
thanks for stopping in babs.

RuneSB 26. December 2008, 11:38

Happy Christmass, and thx for the wise words Scott

ricewood 26. December 2008, 12:04

That's true. See the whole picture. Don't blame each other and don't blame ourselves.

Or in other words, let's not play each other's judges. Not even our own.

PainterWoman 26. December 2008, 14:26

Wise words Scott. We can be our own worst enemy....judge, jury, and prosecutor.

ellinidata 26. December 2008, 19:13

To see the whole picture,
we must first look beyond the frame....

as my late mom used to say
" the stones are shinny only on the top where the sun hits..."

we all have our own other side where the dirt touches....

SqueakeyCat 26. December 2008, 23:12

true that, scott

Akamu 27. December 2008, 20:50

He's corrupting the youth. Get the hemlock.

CultureSurfer 27. December 2008, 22:37

Very well-put.

SqueakeyCat 27. December 2008, 23:02

lol

I_ArtMan 28. December 2008, 02:54

that was socrates' biggest mistake. but it was a grand one.
no, i will not take the hemlock.
thankfully, the point has already been made.

ellinidata 28. December 2008, 03:44

:eyes: not the hemlock!

I can not read another tragety!

momable 28. December 2008, 05:59

Deep! So, did you loose it or a friend?

I_ArtMan 28. December 2008, 06:09

don't worry meli, no tragedies...

mom,
just had a moment where this flew out of my fingers. must have been the intensity of all these days of people and places and things.
as for losing it... i am always on the edge of the pool. i don't mind if i lose my balance once in a while. i like the water.

momable 28. December 2008, 06:19

There was a miracle for my family over Christmas -- at two family gatherings and NO ONE GOT INTO A FIGHT!!

 It's true!!!

I_ArtMan 28. December 2008, 06:33

that is great news mom... people can be civilized and bear one another.

momable 28. December 2008, 06:46

I hope it keeps up.

Later...

ellinidata 28. December 2008, 19:12

meli,

I am glad the edge is not scaring you
I had my Brazilian neighbor here last night and I was talking about you and your retirement plan..... (speaking of water...)

SqueakeyCat 28. December 2008, 19:20

I_ArtMan 28. December 2008, 21:47

meli meli meli,
it will take an act of god for me to ever actualize my retirement plan. i am still so entangled in the active life. delusion is still sweet to me. i would have to give up all my dreams to find the haven of sweet contentment: a little house on the caribean with a banana tree poking its fruit onto the veranda.
like i once said to an aquaintance as we shared a meal of bread and soup.... somehow i got into telling all of the jobs i had had and finished with, "yep, i've paid my dues." i will never ever forget his answer, "not until it's over, man."

I_ArtMan 28. December 2008, 21:50

thanks kim... that is a cute kitty. i had a cat once who looked just like the one you planted here...

ellinidata 29. December 2008, 02:08

"not until it's over, man"
as ancient Greeks said
"mide to telous makaristhe" never come ro conclussions before your final breath! still it is soooooooooooooooooooooo warm feeling knowing I will be able to visit you in the Carribean

as for
"banana tree poking its fruit onto the veranda" I am not seating in tha veranda for nothing!! I love you meli

I_ArtMan 29. December 2008, 03:03

i love your heart meli

SqueakeyCat 29. December 2008, 05:56

I_ArtMan 29. December 2008, 06:46

SqueakeyCat 29. December 2008, 06:51

I_ArtMan 30. December 2008, 03:53

islandpride 30. December 2008, 05:48

Thats some piece of work. For me emotions is the key word. Good work.

I_ArtMan 30. December 2008, 06:47

emotions are the mystery.... thanks so much for commenting.

PainterWoman 1. January 2009, 01:49

Have a great 2009 Scott!

I_ArtMan 2. January 2009, 22:59

happy new year pam... i hope 2009 treats you gently.

edwardpiercy 4. January 2009, 09:30

I think it is all fate...karma. We are here. And then we go.

I_ArtMan 4. January 2009, 16:41

good one ed,
thanks for the zen comment.

earth bound misfit 10. January 2009, 15:26

hey scott!! hope you remember me... and hope you had a wonderful christmas and new year as well...
and nice to see you continuing in the same vein as you were when i began my sabbatical... about your post, i too feel it is not upto me to be judgmental of others... an act taken in isolation may sound or look rather different than when viewed in its entirety... nice to see that someone agrees!!!

studio41 16. January 2009, 06:37

this sounds famous! why I am thankful for grace and mercy. happy new year, Scott

I_ArtMan 16. January 2009, 08:06

sure rishi, i remember your handle... very provocative. it's nice to see you back in the game. thanks for commenting. good judgement.

jill right?
two of my favorite words referring to the highest mover... grace and mercy. thanks for commenting.

Arnekrilu 16. January 2009, 11:25

Hi wiseman. See. Lots of others agree with me on your name. So just accept that we find it fitting for you. Yeah. Grace and mercy. Two wonderful words. God is merciful, is a line repeated again and again by muslims. And all terror in the world does not make it less true, even if it is difficult to believe. Keep on.

(But is there really nothing to forgive, or be forgiven for?)

I_ArtMan 16. January 2009, 20:12

i can only work on myself. if my understanding grows i do less harm.

(But is there really nothing to forgive, or be forgiven for?)

i can forgive myself for being asleep, but i can't forgive myself for not making an effort to awaken.

studio41 16. January 2009, 23:43

The way I see it, too, is that I cannot effectuate the work in me... I can only accept that it has to be done, for me that is the starting point. Yes, my name is Jill  thanks for remembering!

I_ArtMan 17. January 2009, 02:24

jill, that is a very realistic starting point. congratulations.
i can experiment, investigate and observe impartially but i cannot do anything except see at first. but i can make efforts in the direction of 'self study'. i can go against myself. i can listen.

studio41 17. January 2009, 04:36

realistic and necessary. Philippians 2:13 is an encouraging verse from the Word that I love that speaks encouragement to me. And hope.

Arnekrilu 19. January 2009, 11:01

Sir Scott.
"I can only work on myself. If my understanding grows, I do less harm" Yes. This is indeed important, and if I do not follow these words, I may become a do bad-er instead of a do good-er. But I am a teacher, and think that to do something good is a blessing for all. If you can share your second shirt with someone, both you and the receiver are blessed, you most. So- I want to do good, and to teach, not to try to wake up by myself, when I sleep. (It is easier to be woken up).
And my biggest problem is a typical problem of the 78- generation. Whatever you do has political implication, included doing "nothing". So by doing no harm, depending on the settings, may cause harm or good.
Scott. This is not hair-splitting (I hope). I really want your and others view on this. (I think you do a lot of good things):wait:  Homer: Doh!

SqueakeyCat 1. February 2009, 20:28

afternoon scott...will call u l8r if ur going to b home

michealjohanopera 11. February 2009, 04:48

It's really nice experience.
I also recognized, but I can't always follow it, I am not compose, my emotion is more powerful than me.
And I don't know anybody who don't give any of their emotions. And you're also same, aren't you?
So can you give me any advice?

I_ArtMan 11. February 2009, 18:41

"but I can't always follow it,"

attention is like a muscle. when i practice self-observation i strengthen the muscle of 'seeing'

the emotional center likes to function alone. so does the intellectual center. in any man one centered functioning is not balanced. learn the language of the heart. negative emotions steal all the energy and we need energy to study ourselves.

so the best practice in the beginning of working on oneself would be to stop expressing negative emotions. also, it helps to sit in the morning before getting involved in things. half an hour. just sit and watch.

Arnekrilu 12. February 2009, 05:45

How do you deal with the fact of evilness wiseman?

I_ArtMan 12. February 2009, 05:59

it's part of the mystery... i try to stay away from evil. i am so small that it doesn't even notice me.

this is no easy question. all evil is due to unconscious behavior. there is no such thing as conscious evil. unfortunately, striving for consciouness isn't very popular... no it's wrongly popular. too many counterfeit teachers.
