arizona vacation

, , , ,

rented a car. i left at 4:00 a.m. to get out of los angeles without fighting any traffic. it was a good idea. that is until i found myself driving straight into the rising sun. i was going blind even with shades on so i stopped and had a gigantic breakfast at the inimitable 'dennys'

bobby was totally surprised to see me pull up at the mailbox of his ajo house. the front door was open and i could see him see me. we had a big hug. we talked for hours. he showed me around his house, told a few tales from long ago then drove me around ajo to see the places of interest.

we did a lot of driving around because bobby always wants to show me everything. we even went to mexico where i was his mule... they have duty free stores and tequila and cigarettes are half price. i was only in mexico for ten minutes.

arizona is like another planet.

Love that cactus! What is the name of that mountain that looks like it has a face on it? And where exactly is it?

Glad you had a great time with your brother Scott.

pam,
it is in the saguaro preserve near ajo... i don't know the name of it. but the road makes a big loop and you can't miss it.

that's alright meli, that was kind of fun.

Angeliki 12. February 2009, 05:13

I always promise to be sensible with questions but it seems I am not good at it around you...imagine if we were face to face! thank you for all the answers meli,
I kept you busy for almost 2 hours ....

scott cumming 12. February 2009, 05:54

well, i didn't mind at all. i felt a relationship. but you're right face to face we would both be talking at the same time. j/k i am a trained listener.

Angeliki 12. February 2009, 11:58

listeners make the best company to share a conversation,
the amazing thing is that around people I admire I can be just a listener too  and then it's time for the music to start  OK I am bubbly I can not hide that much !

You're back! :D I would have loved to have visited Arizona... awww So close once, but couldn't be further away now. I would like to visit New Mexico also. I like the mexican aura to the places, the indian influences etc. Those two places are so full of "another old world" culture. Thanks for sharing.

scott cumming 12. February 2009, 21:11

hey, nic... it really is brethtakingly beautiful. you really better stick to the road though... it is not very forgiving country for strolling around... need a snake bite kit and food and water in case you get a little lost; and that's easy because it all looks the same sometimes.

meli, listening is an art, i think. it's quality depends so much on whether one can be interested, same as art. don't pretend to listen.... activate myself and i am interested. velly intellesting eh?

right isabel, you put it very well... the charm of aztec and old spain.... the faces and decorations... so distinctively mexican. thanks for your comment.

I've never seen such huge cactuses. Do they blossom some time? At night maybe? And very brievely?

Angeliki 12. February 2009, 22:08

"you really better stick to the road though... it is not very forgiving country for strolling around... need a snake bite kit "

my horse ridding boots will be on at all times!

oh my!

meli
I fully agree that listening is an art,
Michael's niece was involved with David Moscioni
well know for his research on HIV treatments,
and now hes Dean at the Medical University in NJ.
One would think that a man like him will have a million things to say ...
Well,
when I met him 12 years ago,
I was surprised to see that his charisma was not to talk but to listen, to this day (we pretty much know everything about each other),
the gift he gives me is to engage conversation without overpowering it! oh,
he makes the best waffles on earth too

simple is intellect don't you think?

Sorry Scott, I thought you knew. I never stick to the road p: I like to have it in sight, but the hidden parallel trails always seem interesting :D

Angeliki 14. February 2009, 03:08

sometimes we like the same things meli,
I had a feeling..
 +

scott cumming 14. February 2009, 17:58

meli,
do you like 'lilies of the valley' and blue crocuses in the spring?

do you like your grapes peeled for you?

do you like the few moments when the red sun sinks into the emerald sea?

could you be content sometimes to bask in the sun and watch the green grass grow?

do you love snuggling in bed with a good book and the one you love so close beside you?

do you giggle when the children giggle?

then you must be my valentine.

Angeliki 14. February 2009, 18:31

meli,
do you know that no girl can say no to any of the above?
do you know I was born the first on May
and lillies of the valley
is my month flower?
do you know you make me giggle right now?
it must be the child in me and you at the same time!

yes, I am your Valentine
