a good life II

, , ,

here i am again eating. in the hopes that this repetitious eating of mine will not become boring, finally, an absolutely up to date photo of my real self is included. maybe even two.

it's pretty hot here so i am still preparing delectable meals which are cold. this is my favorite for summer... mango avocado salad with about 18 ingredients, (spinach, lettuce etc.) not counting the dressing which has its own eighteen ingredients. anybody can do this. it is delicious.

but i must warn you. it is deceptively time consuming, so make enough for tomorrow like i did. the dressing just gets better and better. it has homemade applesauce, rice vinegar, tamari, apple vinegar, sesame oil, fresh dill, fresh basil, fresh ginger (mashed without skin in a pestle). take some toasted sesame seeds and sea salt and put them in the coffee grinder. sprinkle this on the individual salad. and enjoy.

use a fresh croissant. you'll be glad you did. romaine lettuce, bemuda onion and cream cheese, mayo, not much.

more than i can eat. my eyes are always bigger than my stomach.

watching the evening news which is disconcerting as always.

fencing scar on my cheek, baseball bat on the forehead. so be kind. :chef:

well, it looks like food. i may as well eat it.

it's kind of a sloppy handful but that's half the fun.

and don't try to kiss anyone. that burmuda onion and the scallion rounds will make your partner run.

a good lifethe seed of awakening

Not if they also eat the aforementioned. (I love using that word). If you both eat the same, can't taste the onion. Hahah

Must be the artist in you, but your food always looks so PRETTY. Very appetizing.

lollymolly 18. August 2009, 02:35

I have never run across a tamari in my life. Some tamari? A tamari?

scott cumming 18. August 2009, 02:41

i guess you're right. make sure you both eat together.

not the artist in me... just food is beautiful. wait, not all food is beautiful. some of the tastiest food looks kind of dreary, like stroganoff or beef bourgignon.

uh, sorry, the 'abovementioned' tamari is just japanese soy sauce. i use tamari because it is prepared differently in japan and has a much better flavor. like calvados aged in oak, they take great pains in japan with tamari. some tamari.... two tablespoons. no more, too salty.

lollymolly 18. August 2009, 03:25

Thanks for the explanation. I think I saw that at the grocery store yesterday.

scott cumming 18. August 2009, 03:32

yep. most supermarkets carry 'tamari sauce' now. sometimes in the foreign department. especially here in los angeles, the new 'melting pot'. you can get anything in a regular supermarket in los angeles. except jamaican patties. in new york there is a much larger jamaican population and they have patties. i may just have to make my own.

lollymolly 18. August 2009, 03:44

I got so tickled at my niece Susan talking about grocery shopping in Calif. after she and her husband moved there (He worked in silicon valley) They lived in Los Gatos. She said she tried to buy blackeyed peas and other Southern delicacies---like beef and pork----and they thought she was from another planet.

scott cumming 18. August 2009, 04:16

naaaaw. well, if it was thirty years ago.

but now, southern is in. they even sell hominy (in cans) and dehydrated grits. blackyeyed peas have been available as far i know, always and everywhere... canned i'll grant you.

now 'chittlins'?... california has never heard of 'chittlins'

Angeliki 18. August 2009, 04:55

if I bring my cake will you share your salad with me ?

and since I am a Pal,
I will also trim your beard.

scott cumming 18. August 2009, 05:23

be my guest.

Angeliki 18. August 2009, 05:31

thank meli,
I always feel welcome

scott cumming 18. August 2009, 05:36

i know i need a trim. i might even shave.

Angeliki 18. August 2009, 05:40

 summer calls for it, plus you look so much younger when it is trimmed  not that mature men are not sexy or not desirable :D

PainterWoman 18. August 2009, 05:41

Besides an art book and a novel, you should also publish a cookbook. The food looks absolutely heavenly. I also like that tray your meal is on.

scott cumming 18. August 2009, 05:47

i agree meli  i don't think zeus shaved or clipped his hair and beard. and he seemed do do just fine. but i am not zeus.

looking younger has never been a priority of mine. i want to look like what i am. but i'm not a bum, and even the lovely hostess at the grill commented on my beard last wednesday. i intuited that she likes me better trimmed.

scott cumming 18. August 2009, 05:51

pam, thanks for expressing your confidence that there is something to publish in all of this bloggery.

if i publish anything it will be "20 jataka tales" illustrated in 'egg tempera' by yours truly, or,
"yes and no stories, teaching stories from around the world" much wider audience. i will, if i find a publisher, illustrate these with sumi sketches.

scott cumming 18. August 2009, 06:00

ahhh women.

lollymolly 18. August 2009, 06:27

Note to self: Get tamari, ginger and applesauce tomorrow.

scott cumming 18. August 2009, 06:32

lol, good thinking linda. ginger is a stimulant and very good for the heart. plus it's just a good flavor.

try tamari all by itself as a salad dressing. it's great.

Allan 18. August 2009, 07:01

What is that with the candle? I thought it was only Scandinavians during winter who had this urge to light a candle now and again.

Norfrid 18. August 2009, 07:13

Your blog posts about food are great! They make me want to try making something else than the usual boring stuff that I make when the farmer comes running in and wants dinner on the table in a hurry.

Nicolas Borgsmidt 18. August 2009, 09:01

The food looks great and you look fit Scottie :D Bon apetit

Angeliki 18. August 2009, 15:38

meli
I hope and wish the next time around to see the empty plate on the table and your smiling picture.
After eating a great meal smiles always follow

Robert Hurley 18. August 2009, 17:21

watching the evening news which is disconcerting as always.

You eat so healthy. Why would you want to abuse yourself in this manner?

Zulia 18. August 2009, 17:42

Whoaaah The sandwich looks good! Too bad most of the ingredient is hard or impossible to be found in my place!

I think Art Man looks like Merlin! Making magic through his art and food!
Cooool! Can I be an apprentice?
:-D

scott cumming 18. August 2009, 21:42

allan,
my friend rosemary makes beautiful candles and she gave me these two. i am scandinavian. my great grandfather was swedish. you knew that. i do love the soft golden light that candles throw on faces; and the glow. fire is magic.

meli
i was smiling for hours... that's how long it took me to eat all of that. i have a very small stomach. i know it doesn't look that small from the outside.

i think i get your drift. most of my life i ignored the news and never read the paper, except the 'funnies'

i don't really pay much attention to it. just listen to it while i'm working. most of it is as if someone gives the news crew a list each month of people they can talk about over and over and over again. :faint:

I only measure the hug in your pictures, I thought you knew that already

scott cumming 18. August 2009, 23:07

thanks kid, very polite. i am watching it though. i need some ditches to dig. that will do it in a week.

Angeliki 18. August 2009, 23:14

I hope you stay safe with this heat,
digging is not for August, a month later it might be wiser...

scott cumming 18. August 2009, 23:41

i wasn't really serious. i had an opportunity to dig for some plumbing changes recently, and tempting as it was since i truly dig digging, i opted for the quiet atmosphere of the silkscreen studio.

i can still hike though. and hiking is always a glorious experience. when you get to the top and look all around, it's quite exhilarating and well worth the effort.

turn the page meli  your watches aren't working right. oh no i remember, you will finish your chores and in the quiet freedom of the wee small hours read carefully and think of ways to spank poor s.

Angeliki 19. August 2009, 00:02

phew! I am glad the trip with bobby wasn;t calcelled for digging holes! hiking is great and I am sure you can still swim, no?

as for notices...I had many pvm from Willis for a personal problem he is facing and I offer my support, that made me back up on comment responces...but he is worth the support and needed it to...

I did take s. out of the dog house in one post, I wanted to get him back after I did read the second and I ended up wanting to hug s. at the end... Ups and dDowns to no end

I enjoy reading all new posts at night when the kids don't have their loud music on
and their talking never stops...
today Yannis was tired and naps,
Vaia is eating a giant strawberry ice cream  I envy her for eating everything she wishes,
and I had the pleasure to enjoy your new entries...
I am sure you realize it's not over yet by me ...
I need to re-read and add questions p:

*hugs*

scott cumming 19. August 2009, 00:15

meli  you are a remarkable woman, no doubt about that. i am so glad you have befriended me.

yes, i can still swim. i swim like a fish. and the trip is awaiting gas money. i am awaiting a check from unemployment. down to the coin cauldron.

leena 27. August 2009, 04:52

i love that you have working man hands and can do such fine work with them. the paintings are simply lovely scott, simply lovely. i can see such care in all the things you choose to surround yourself with

scott cumming 27. August 2009, 05:12

leena,
thank you for the visit and the glowing compliment. you made me feel so good.

Olga 27. August 2009, 07:10

"and don't try to kiss anyone. that burmuda onion and the scallion rounds will make your partner run."

NOOOOOOOOO! Just make you partner to eat that sandwich too and you can kiss!

scott cumming 27. August 2009, 07:19

still, if kissing seems in the offing, i think i might just have a mint julep and some melons.

Olga 27. August 2009, 07:23

but onion kiss.... awwww so romantic...

scott cumming 27. August 2009, 08:05

any kiss is romantic. if you love someone, there are no stops.

Olga 27. August 2009, 09:40

That`s right.... neither onion or garlic can stop me from kissing me husband !

Zulia 27. August 2009, 09:52

 sure go ahead!

scott cumming 27. August 2009, 18:43

love knows no stench? somehow it doesn't sound right. :faint:

don't forget the parsley....

you need not eat your onions sparsely,
if you take a sprig of parsley

Zulia 27. August 2009, 18:49

Parsley! Right! Its really refreshing for the breath! I like parsley!

lollymolly 27. August 2009, 20:37
