kim,
i searched my archives and found two more nasr eddin posts. i know there's one more somewhere. but here's the two for you for all you do.

http://my.opera.com/I_ArtMan/blog/2006/10/28/nasr-eddin-calendar

the truth is, leonard, that it's a psuedo-woodcut. scratchboard is a lot easier on my hands.

eventually, i will post all twelve stories. i had a lot of fun doing this calendar; i may as well share it.

We in south asia hear a lot of Mulla Nasir Uddin(thats how we spell it in here, btw). i've heard this one before, always nice to recognise something when not expected.

i've seen it spelled that way, and sometimes mullah nasruddin.
this is the way they spell it in georgia, russia.
i love these stories and collect them. some from books but some from persians and egyptians i've met in restaurants in new york.

Hmmm lets see... Wonder if u've already heard this one:

"One day Mulla Nasir Uddin was passing by a forest and stumbled across the King's way, who was going on hunting. The King looked at him reproachfully and said, "Why did you have to turn up at this hour, as a bad omen, when I'm leaving for hunting? You've just spoiled my day. I wont get any lucky today". Saying thus, The King ordered his men to whip Mullah for spoiling this journey. Mulla didnt say a word and went home, badly beaten and bruised, while the King went back on hunting.

At the end of the day, the King came to Nasir Uddin to tell him how lucky he was today to have caught 2 deers. Mulla looked at him and said with contempt, "Now now, Sultan, look who's the bad omen. You saw my face at an early hour and luck was with you throughout the day. And I, seeing yours, had to endure whiplashes!"

Thank You for sharing us all nice works... and here is some of lil information of Him.)

The many spelling variations for Nasreddin include: Nasreddin, Nasrettin, Nasrudin, Nasr-id-deen, Nasr-eddin, Nasirud-din, Nasr-ud-Din, Nasr-Eddin, and Nasr-Ed-Dine.

The many spelling variations for Hodja include: Hodja, Hodscha, Hoca, Chotza, Khodja, and Khoja.

Nasreddin Hoca (in English Nasreddin Hodja)was a populist philosopher and wise man, remebered for his funny stories and anecdotes, and was a satirical sufi (sufism is a mystic tradition within Islam that encompesses a diverse range of beliefs dedicated to Divine love and the cultivation of the elements of the Divine within the individual human being.Practitþoners of this tradition are known as "Sufis" generally, though some senior members of the tradition reserve this term for those who have attained the goals tradition.)figure who lived during middle ages in Anatolia, Nasreddin reputedly was born in 1208 in the village of Hortu near Sivrihisar, Eskisehir (Turkey). In 1237 he moved to Aksehir,Konya (Turkey), where he died in the Islamic year 683 (1284 or 1285). As many as 350 anecdotes have been attributed to the Hodja, as he most often is called. Hodja is a title meaning teacher or scholar. The "International Hasreddin Hodja Festival" is held annually Aksehir between July 5-10.

One of Hoca's story...
A beggar knocked on the Hodja's door and said, "Allah has directed me to this house for a good meal."

"I am sorry, but you have the wrong house," replied the Hodja. Then pointing to a nearby mosque, he continued, "Allah lives over there."
