I am white!

The thingee says this:  You value law, order, community and light. You love to protect the social order and the rule of law. At your best, you are just and protective. At your worst, you are authoritarian and dogmatic. Your symbol is a sunburst. Your enemies are black and red.

Totally cool & interesting post.

Nice legs. p:

avatar
you had to notice my legs... they were a little girlish, now they look like trees. thanks for surfing by and for commenting.

By I_ArtMan, # 25. March 2008, 19:11:12

avatar
Um...I beg to disagree. Those were not girlish by any stretch of the imagination. I think we need input from more women on this issue, though.

And who is the hottie in your banner, a younger version of Scott perhaps?p:

By CultureSurfer, # 25. March 2008, 19:13:13

avatar
yep, that's 21 year old scott sitting in the window of prince st. loft in manhattan.(that was before they called south of houston st. SOHO.

sometimes people using my camera that was a pentax SLR wait for the right moment. using triple x kodak b/w/400 asa

By I_ArtMan, # 25. March 2008, 22:58:15

avatar
Scott, you were a cutie!!!

Wow, I'd love to hear about your life some time. SOHO, Venice Beach? I bet you have some cool stories. You should write posts on some of them, the ones that won't get you thrown in jail, that is.

By CultureSurfer, # 26. March 2008, 04:47:57

avatar
lol, i'm covered by the statute of limitations.

i remember once i resisted arrest in woodstock, n.y. about a month before the big festival... they were going to arrest me for kissing a girl in the middle of the road. yep, lots of stories... leary and millbrook, greenwich village adventures when i was sixteen (1959)before the music explosion when there were beat poets reciting in coffeehouses and the musician was just an intermission.

i'm working on it, bit by bit.

By I_ArtMan, # 26. March 2008, 05:16:07

avatar
Ok, now I have to get out to Venice Beach to interview you. Leary? Seriously?

Sometimes, I feel like I missed out on all of the fun of the 60's although I consider myself fortunate to have missed out on Vietnam...

My only memory of 60's sub-culture was my parents pointing at a hippie at the zoo & making some comment which led me to think they were something to be feared.

By CultureSurfer, # 26. March 2008, 05:41:48

avatar
sure, i can talk about timothy leary and richard alpert. i lived at millbrook in 1965. ginsberg was hanging out there when i was there. over a hundred and twenty people... and i was the fire-keeper and the the 'watchman' .
i went on one road tour because i was dating his daughter susan. dating is a soft word for it. it was a whirlwind fairytale. too long a story for comment section.

By I_ArtMan, # 26. March 2008, 06:09:34

avatar
OMG, tell more!!!!!!!!!!!! I want to read posts about your life.

By CultureSurfer, # 26. March 2008, 14:21:05

avatar
Jeff asked me to ask if you met Andy Warhol?

By CultureSurfer, # 26. March 2008, 14:21:35

avatar
yeah, i knew him... i didn't like him. but i went to his parties, because it was part of the 'scene'. in those days, every night we raced around, making appearances everywhere. warhol's place was 24 hour; that made it a good place to go.

By I_ArtMan, # 26. March 2008, 17:01:15

avatar
You knew Warhol? What didn't you like about him? Too freaky weird artsy, too insecure, too egotistical, or all of the above?

By CultureSurfer, # 26. March 2008, 17:21:28

avatar
pastey effeminite maggot pervert? con artist, yup.

well, i'm the one who is not in a safe place. he is. but i am unafraid. it's just that i shouldn't have maligned the poor misfit.

You can always hit the delete key.

By CultureSurfer, # 26. March 2008, 22:55:30

avatar
i know. but i have a principle... edit before erase. even in drawing, i almost never use the eraser... just make use of the mistake.
incidentally, there is a very unflattering comment on my blog, which i was tempted to erase. but i thought, "those are not my words to erase." so i let them stand. i guess i am quirky that way.

By I_ArtMan, # 26. March 2008, 23:08:59

avatar
Well, now I know what SOHO is.

By momable, # 27. March 2008, 00:37:11

avatar
ah... you are well read mom... but do you know what NOHO is?

By I_ArtMan, # 27. March 2008, 01:43:22

avatar
I've deleted a few nasty comments off my blog (and nicely told a few jerks to go away if they don't like the fact that I demand respect on my blog).

I figure if I can't delete the nonsense people say in real life, I'll do it here. lol

By CultureSurfer, # 27. March 2008, 04:51:26

avatar
I give, what is NOHO?

By momable, # 27. March 2008, 05:06:12

avatar
North of Houston Street, right?

Do I get 10 points? p:

By CultureSurfer, # 27. March 2008, 12:57:02

avatar
naomi, but a nasty comment somehow balances... a full spectrum.

i don't get many and the one i mentioned is very interesting, so opposite to my way.

mom,
NOHO is fairly new... it's north hollywood. of course it's a play on SOHO, south of houston st. in manhattan; which is of course a play on london's artist haven. or, you could say a hotbed of avante garde seething. rents are cheaper at first. then artists, who always fix up their rented apartments, storefronts and rooms, cause the area to become 'quaint' and decorative. colorful. this is where "its happening"

there are many little theatres for new playwrights and actors to cut their teeth in. not enough galleries though. not enough real artists either... all dilletants dabbling on sundays.

By I_ArtMan, # 27. March 2008, 17:20:39

avatar
I don't mind opinions opposite of mine; the ones I delete are the nasty ones or the people who say they are right & everyone else is wrong (usually men, I am sorry to say, and no reflection on you, Scott).

Did you get a white supremacist on your blog, or what?

By CultureSurfer, # 27. March 2008, 20:20:22

avatar
no, it was somebody who impugned my masculinity because i did a pastel of 'rose' from the movie "titanic".

march 22, 2006

http://my.opera.com/I_ArtMan/blog/show.dml/189621

his name is busta... lol you can read his comment. it's four from the end. i just read it again. it makes me laugh.

By I_ArtMan, # 27. March 2008, 23:10:42

avatar
Scott-That's super offensive & I would have deleted it.

There is free speech but then there are morons. Judging by the message he left, well, need I say more?

By CultureSurfer, # 28. March 2008, 13:08:23

avatar
i knew you would be impressed. i'll stick to my guns... i decry censorship of any kind.

By I_ArtMan, # 28. March 2008, 17:34:44

avatar
Nice you stick to your principals.

Thanks for explaining NOHO. So I assume once the artists fix the joints up, they can no longer afford to live there???

By momable, # 29. March 2008, 01:03:24

avatar
that's what usually happens. but if one out of a hundred of the starving artists is lifted to notoriety with financial security assured, they get to stay.

By I_ArtMan, # 29. March 2008, 03:03:57

avatar
This is a sad situation. Same thing happened to my cousin.
