dragon dinner

i call this "the mandarin dragon chicken tempura szechuan extravaganza.
well here's the dragon i did yesterday for a silkscreen project.
and below is the only thing that my dragon will eat these days... he is so spoiled.
herbs and spices etc.

carmelizing the onions, shallots and ginger. also the main orange juice and vegetable broth separately.

after marinating the chicken (fatless breast) set up the battering

first you roll the chicken in rice flour so it will absorb the egg coating which will grab the tempura batter. get it?

really brown the onions, jalapeno, fresh ginger and shallots

fry the meat in your choice of oil. i use corn oil with a dash of sesame oil

brown both sides to a golden brown or dragons will not eat it.

put everything in the big pot with the stewing ingredients. throw in the mandarin oranges and simmer for at least one hour.
make some rice

clean-up along the way.
now eat in peace.

what a display!!
you put me to shame one more time!!
I was to comment in you area with a picture of a "baklava" I did today and a recipe! Your dragon will spit fire on it..
BTW I love this dragon!! Did you do this yesterday??
Scott my friend,
I am telling you one thing,
painting all day and then cooking a feast, it's enough for me to say!!
Scott, you are one "hot dragon!!!"
P.S. remind me another time to tell you my salmon ,peanut oil recipe.
This one is a master piece, no baklava and no salmon should be mentioned here any longer
I am one proud friend

Great to see photos of each step. What did you use to marinade the chicken? I see worstershire sauce I think.
By cakkleberrylane, # 28. April 2008, 11:46:46
But I was disappointed that the recipe was not made from dragon meat. Now THAT would have been something.

Toni and Daryl released their first album in 1974 and rocketed to stardom shortly thereafter, taking top honors at the 1975 Grammy Awards by winning Record of the Year for "Love Will Keep Us Together."

that's what we have always to remember in this small community
By ellinidata, # 28. April 2008, 18:52:19
A few comments:
-Toni seemed a bit TOO happy.
-Back then, women had REAL boobs.
-I have no memory of the two backup singer chicks.
-The Captain was barely in that footage.
And last but not least, what HAPPENEDa to the Captain and Tenille??? Does anyone know?

thanks for the reminder. i usually use my chopsticks on plain brown rice. you're right it makes it different.
angeliki, it is a pool day, but no gas, and the bike is flat. end of the month blues.
norfrid, the door is open. jump on a jet plane. tonight shiskabob.
lois,
yes, the marinade has also, rice vinegar and a jamaican 'pickappa sauce'.
naomi,
we will have to go to komodo for that. and i understand that those dragons are a little difficult to persuade.
thanks allan, the colors may change in the final silkscreen... maybe peacock blue and ocean greens

and best of all, i got some gas. so tomorrow is a 'swim' day. then i think i'll go to the beach in malibu for saturday... just take it easy and have a hamburger at gladstone's. life is good.
By I_ArtMan, # 2. May 2008, 02:46:01
that's what i call "High Class' !!
By ellinidata, # 2. May 2008, 12:07:59
i might even venture to say that that's what keeps me sane and able to forge ahead.
after my swim today i stopped at my new favorite restaurant, "the hollywood diner" (open 24 hours, seven days a week), had some fish and chips and melon.
it's the closest thing you could hope to find to a good new york delicatessen restaurant. then i strolled around NOHO digging all the galleries and restaurant menus. i read the reviews of six plays (you would call it off broadway in new york}
within a four block radius, sort of like mcdougal and bleeker streets in the 'village''culture, acting schools, theatres, jazz joints, outdoor cafes, even a bistro style comedy club called the "ha ha" .galleries... a real 'scene' all a few blocks from my ymca and my library... just too cool.
