summer reveries

summer song

Maybe we all are damaged wood
I myself am a woodwind
oboe
Empty wood waiting for a gust of air
Zephyr
Or a memory
Sweet meadow

Oh! Sweet meadow; sweet hill;
sweet hayloft
Sweet nubile seductress… oh, sweet honey skin
Tears of ecstacy watered the stacks of hay
On which they two lay entangled, assuaged

Ah alas, how we choose the body
Before the spirit, her warm skin in bloom
The noble boy has lost his mind
The sweet fullness of sudden desire

But the demure one, the quiet one
Who reached out her hand to his
And locking hands together they climbed the hill
Behind the farm
Not a word was spoken
The first hour of meeting; not one word
Just smiles, not a kiss
But the softest hand he’s ever held

A smaller world below, forgotten
Only the clouds of dusk
And now a subtle joy
And children running on the lawn
So small
So distant

words are so powerful,
and Scott,
you are the word Master!

P.S. I wish I used my words more wisely today too!
I did not :frown:

I came, I saw, and I thought, "That Scott isn't half bad as a poet". The pencil sketch is nicely done!

so sorry, angeliki, did you put your foot in your mouth or something? thanks for the nice comment.

ravo, dear friend, that was nice.
the sketch is kind of zen, but it will be the groundwork for the forth coming watercolor .

yep, I did!
getting low it doesn't feel good,
However,
life has to go on and
I guess the person that makes you angry is always the winner!

I love your poem!
This part :
"A smaller world below, forgotten
Only the clouds of dusk
And now a subtle joy
And children running on the lawn
So small
So distant"

It reminds me a Greek song by Costa Hatzdis.
It rhymes when it is not translated :

I will take you on an plane trip,
while above you will see
all those that hurt you ,
they will look so small,
they will seem so worthless,
you will forget them in a second....

He came out with this when I was in High School,

he is a gypsy that never stopped singing about love
in a rusty voice and using a tambourine .... Nice

Poetry (beyond limericks) is mostly lost on me, but I like this one, Scott. I like this drawing particularly, too.

By noah counte, # 1. May 2008, 02:31:47

avatar
i guess i'll have to change that tho... gotta dance away. just wanted to say a little more... about poetry. i've always believed that people have some characteristics which are universal. it's proven here with the costa hatzdis feeling the same analogy.

somehow, i don't believe you, matthew, about poetry being lost on you. if you can relate to this one, your sensibilities are alive and well.
the drawing is terrible but i had to do it to remind myself of my vision at the time i was remembering and writing the poem.
by the way, i can rhyme if i want to. but i'm more of an 'imagist' than a musical poet. if i am a poet at all.
thanks for dropping by and for your comment.

I guess we all have the gypsy tune in us...dancing away??
they all dance around the fire through the night, drink, write poetry and play the guitar!!(I will stop here) :D

Of course dancing it will be from now on when we have to "run" that will make a certain Tango dancer happy...
Have a wonderful day,
and your drawing is not bad :smile:Give the lady shorter torso and longer legs...women like that

The simplicity in both the poem and the sketch is striking.
And you dont know how happy i am to see that you have spared a stanza(and the last too- often the most important to me) to the smaller world, even from that blissful greater world. Its so important. And so lovely.

b.,
you always say such good things. simplicity has ever been my aim in art. the best example is "the lovers" i painted when i was fifteen. maybe you've seen it. it does kind of irk me that my oldest friends and my brother, bobby, keep telling me that it's the best painting i've ever done. i might do it again, since it was stolen on the venice boardwalk. it was good because it said something universal in a very simple way.

norfrid,
i am so glad you came.

angeliki,
you bring light wherever you go.

isabel,
your comment warmed the 'cockles' of my

Scott,

By ellinidata, # 2. May 2008, 20:09:34

"The lovers" you say? Hmm may be i've seen it, but cant remember right now, doesnt ring a bell. Though stolen, i hope u have a copy of it still somewhere?

I've never been much for minimalism, but yes simplicity has always appealed to me in a way 'greater' philosophies couldnt. I always enjoy art when it's ...raw. Perhaps its this obsession to rawness and originality that often makes me not edit my poems much...
Oh and u deserve good words. I try not to bestow good words(though they're free) where they're not worth it.

Still haven't read all of your poems but I love this one. Very sensual! So sorry to read that the painting was stolen but glad you have an image of it here. Let's hope this comment goes through as there's been 'cable connection problems' in my area since last night.

thanks for commenting.

this painting is listed with the 'art theft' dept. of the los angeles police. someday they may come accross it when they bust somebody's methadrine pad.

i really want it back. i was never going to sell it. it was just for show. it's what we call a studio piece, in the artist's collection. but i guess finally someday someone would offer me a price i couldn't resist. like a million dollars. then i would have sold it. it would be silly not to invest in my own work wouldn't it.

but the truth is sometimes i just can't part with a painting. it would be like selling your children.

By I_ArtMan, # 6. May 2008, 22:27:04

avatar
"it would be like selling your children"
I totally get you. It is a creation of you.
did you by a chance get a picture of it??
I believe the connection you had with the picture does remind you of the wonderful innocent years!
I do get it!
I wish with all my heart that one day you will get it back!
How did the stealing happen??
Did you ever suspected any body ??

By ellinidata, # 6. May 2008, 23:35:14

the picture is above. 'the lovers'

it was when i was staying a block from the boardwalk at a hostel. i had to keep going back to the room for more paintings. i had to leave what i brought unguarded. until then i just trusted the world not to take anything. it was rare. i contacted the police right away. he couldn't have had more than a ten minute start and it was a big heavy framed painting. but they wouldn't drive around and look for the thief.

i think it was another artist. it was a compliment in a way. the guy couldn't live without it.

"i think it was another artist. it was a compliment in a way. the guy couldn't live without it"

the color of envy is always green :frown:
(I wrote once a poem and I got in trouble for it. The person that got envious wasn't even the one I wrote it for :frown: )

sorry , if he did it, an artists should know that ones work is like part of his existence, I guess (if he did) he wasn't an artist by choice ,but by a profession ,
as Latins said :
"Dum spiro spero "

By ellinidata, # 7. May 2008, 00:38:00

avatar
dum spiro spero... gotta remember that one.
well, no matter what happens, i'd always rather be the one envied than to have to be the one who feels envy. i have heard of it, but i don't feel it ever.

Scott,
that's the best way to see things ,
In the long run the thing or the person that makes you feel uncomfortable will not mater at all. The time you wasted will never come back to your life,
and as Costa Hadzis the gypsy sings:
" every body and every thing will look so unimportant from above, you will forget them in a second" and

Scott,
"A smaller world below, forgotten
Only the clouds of dusk
And now a subtle joy "

Princess :queen: Lea is right! There is no other "her" or "she". Lord Mighty Richard would have found out such a thing - he the Man, he in charge of Security an stuff an he got all these kewelllll meddddyeeeevoll cams around the place. They really parrots in square cages an they got longgggggg eyesight and biggggggg hearing an they as good as any of that future stuff the Glass Ball (don't look in it!) shows. Nahhhh.... there is no other "her" or "she", dear Godddess Angeliki  (...but that don't mean you shouldn't put up a mean show of fighting for Lord Scott's love - it sorta keep him on his toes and take his mind off all those cabbages and stews he into, an bring him back to the main scene where lurvvvvve is waiting) :D

and while the drama is taking place,
Scott is sleeping,
the faucet is dripping
and I am reading!!

HOLOFERNES

Sir, you shall present before her the Nine Worthies.
Sir, as concerning some entertainment of time, some
show in the posterior of this day, to be rendered by
our assistants, at the king's command, and this most
gallant, illustrate, and learned gentleman, before
the princess; I say none so fit as to present the
Nine Worthies.
