    United States Independence Day 2007

Every 4th of July, the United States celebrates the day it declared its independence from Great Britain in 1776. To celebrate this national holiday, Americans light off fireworks, both big and small. Larger cities put on their own large-scale fireworks displays, safely controlled by professional pyrotechnicians. Displays last around 30 minutes, though they can easily be shorter or much longer. For cities located on a river, fireworks are lit from a barge in the middle of the river for safety reasons. These are some pictures I took from the 2007 Independence Day celebration in Portland, OR

Located in the heart of Washington state in the North American Cascade range is a turbulent, torrential Tumwater Canyon. Its name comes from the Native Americans who were home to this area before being displaced by white settlers.
