Thursday, 13. September 2007, 01:35:34
stopping by Starbucks on my way home from school. Nevertheless, I resisted the urge and decided to look up the recipe online, knowing that The Oregonian had posted recipes for duplicating Starbucks scones and sweets. The recipe turned out pretty good, and surprisingly easy.
Recipe adapted from Yahoo Answers
- 1 cup of milk
- 2 tablespoons of sugar
- 1/3 cup chocolate chips (mmm... chocolate!)
- 3 tablespoons chocolate syrup
- 2 cups of ice
- 1/8 tsp vanilla
Blend it all up and.... you've got yourself a Double Choc Chip Frap! Experiment and adjust the proportions to your liking.

I first discovered double chocolate chip frapuccinos from a friend when I was 15. Ever since, it's been my default choice when I go to Starbucks, provided it's a warm day. If it's a cool day, I go for the Caramel Macchiato.

I can't help but notice there is no coffee in this recipe...isn't starbucks supposed to be a coffee joint? essentially what we have here is a chocolate smoothie. While that does sound delicious, it is not coffee.

There are two types, creme based and coffee based. This happens to be a creme based which is popular with those of us who don't like coffee or with parents who don't want their kids to have coffee.

We grow a chocolate mint plant in our back yard that's basically taken over the flowerbed. I haven't tried the mint in my choc frap yet since I'm not really a mint guy, but I'm sure a couple leaves thrown into your blender would give it a nice zing. Try whatever kind of mint you have and let me know!

Or try using light coconut milk instead of regular milk--that'd be killer! I found out I'm allergic to dairy, so this is how I'll be making my next double choc chip frap. For anyone else who's allergic to dairy, try using soy milk or almond milk if you don't want it to be as heavy as the coconut milk.
