Opera Widgets Competition

, , , ...

I received my goodie bag in the mail from Opera yesterday from Espen.

My submission was Trimet Transit Tracker, which is the first widget I have ever done. Thanks for the encouragement, Opera. It is definately beta quality, still strongly resembles the Hello World example. Nonetheless, I hope to teach myself a little Javascript so I can extract just the content I need from a web script. Really, all the credit goes to Trimet for making their Transit Tracker program. I simply iframe'd it, figureing it'd make it one step easier to look up departure and arrival times. For all you people living in New York, London, and Japan, I am really jealous that you have 24/7 transit and don't have to worry about missing a bus or train. The closest stop to my house comes at best every 45, and on Sundays every 90 minutes.

Ultimately, this widget will be really useful for quickly knowing what time to catch the bus in Portland, Oregon, USA.

Enough about what I did. Here's what was in the goodie bag:
  • 2 red Opera pens
  • Black Opera + Widgets t-shirt (similar design to the koozies at SXSW)
  • browse me shirt (from the Rock Opera party back in October)
  • Opera lanyard
  • Hand signed note from Espen (these notes really mean a lot to me because it lets me know that cool humans work at Opera, and that the magic of Opera isn't just done by robots or monkeys)

Opera, You-Guys-Are-Amazing!

Heroes & Zeros Contest

, , , ...

I seriously can't wait to get my Heroes & Zeros cd in the mail. Their music is awesome! Opera also hinted that it'll come with some Opera goodies, and I am dying to find out what that is. I really hope it's a t-shirt, because those are wicked awesome and it'd allow me to vocalize my love for Opera just a little bit more.

((IceArdor encourages YOU to contribute to the Heroes & Zeros Wikipedia page))

I'd like to see more Opera competitions, especially ones that get Opera mentioned on the big social networking sites like Facebook (congrats to those winners), MySpace (likewise), and future sites like Digg and Orkut.

Their efforts to get t-shirts to everyone who wants one is amazing and unprecedented in the browser industry. Thanks so much for everything you've done, Opera. You're an amazing company.

Edit: I received my package in the mail with the cd (a tiny corner was broken off from the travel. I swear those mail carriers must play soccer (football) with the packages or something). It had a surprise Opera wrist strap, similar to the one from Daniel's goodie giveaway on Opera Watch. The wrist strap is now fashionably dangling from my flash drive (and the wrist strap from Daniel's giveaway is on my cell phone). It also had a Opera-ized pen and a "So fast you'll crap your pants" sticker. That made me laugh so hard. Who thinks up these things? Perhaps most sentimentally, Espen handwrote a note. That was very kind of him. Anyways, you guys over in Oslo really made my week. Thanks.
