South Africa I love you

Oh my word, how do I explain the buzz that's going on here right now in words!? The atmosphere is positively and utterly electric! Yesterday was the opening, it was quite cool, but that game was I think the real cracker of the day.
Went to the Fan Fest in Durbs, which is on the beach, man I have never seen so many people in this city like I did! The beach was packed, the Fan Fest capacity is 25 000 and there were well over 30 000 people there, well over 40k in fact and thefriendliness and cheering and chanting, ah its awesome! Proud of the host team representing, Go Bafana Bafana! Standing in that crowd of thousands when they scored that goal was freakin out of this world! happy yes

So happy that my country is hosting it and didnt disappoint in the opening match and also just LOVIN the vibe here in SA, the tourists are mingling so well with the crowd, the peeps are super friendly, whether you love football or not there's no way anyone cannot say they havent caught World Cup fever here. The cars are hooting, the flags are flying, the city is looking beautiful, I want to just go on and on singing the praises of my country and my city and all of that but I'll hold up for now p one thing is for sure, there'll be no shortage of blog material for the South Africans this month!! I'll save more praise and pride for all my other posts lol It's just such exciting times for us! Enjoy it guys and I hope you feel it to wherever you are!

Proudly South African!

Wicked winter

sing There was something in the air that night
the stars were bright, Fernando.
They were shining there for you and me,
for liberty, Fernando...sing

That song's been stuck in my head all morning, just needed to get it out there!!!
We have a really odd winter, seriously. It's cold one day then hot the next and on and on it goes, the worst days are when it's really hot in the sun but really cold in the shade, ugh what is one supposed to do, let alone wear, in that weather! scared But anyway I was just thinking about the way winter sort of creeps up on you. It starts with the dryness, dry hands, dry skin, peeling nose, the dry lips (especially tragic if you're prone to cold sores and all that, thank goodness I'm not! bigsmile). And then the cold mornings, the icy water in the taps, watery eyes and runny noses from the cold air then the frozen fingers and toes cry nothing good can come from winter, and don't say snow does, because it doesn't even snow here, so bleh! Occasionally I would walk to school and I remember my eyes would water and roll off my cheeks non stop to the point where I would just let it run because I'd get so sick of wiping them away! By the time I'd get to school I'd look like a complete mess lol ah, winter.

So wherever you are enjoy your summer and sunshine!! and think of us little people down here, with the peeling noses and the frozen toes... p
And if you're interested that song is called Fernando and ABBA classic heart

Shutter Island was brilliant!

It's been ages since I've watched such a great movie. I didn't want to at first I thought it was a horror flick but a friend told me it's actually a thriller, although it did leave her feeling very confused in the end. So I went to watch it myself and paid extra attention so I wouldn't end up confused in the end rolleyes but there was no need to because it's the kind of movie that will draw you in all on its ownsome. I'm crappy at reviews but nevertheless here's my attempt at one...

Teddy Daniels (Leo DiCaprio) along with his partner Chuck (Mark Ruffalo) are both US marshalls that are brought on to Shutter island to solve a the mystery sherlock of the missing Rachel Solander (Emily Mortimer), an inmate that killed three of her kids and that has escaped. Now Shutter Island is basically an island doh that has mental asylums for various mentally ill people, especially of the criminally insane variety. The asylums and the head docter/psychiatrist Cawley (Ben Kingsley) are super creepy and from the get go you'll become suspicious of him. Then Teddy starts to have these inexplicable flashbacks about the dead kids, this Rachel chick and his dead wife Dolores (Michelle Williams) and it's as if he is being drugged by the doctors and staff because it's been suggested that it was all a plan to lure him to the island because he was asking too many questions regarding the sketchy brain surgeries that he heard is being done to the patients, so they want to make him insane and keep him there.

But the twist! Oh the twist! I wont say more save that this movie was well written and extremely clever. Martin Scorsese's attention to detail is always astounding. I wasn't confused in the end, I knew why he did what he did, I guess different people will have their own take on what his last words were. Whatever the case it will leave you amazed and wondering. Watch it!! yes

The Beginning... (all over again)

So it's January 2009 all over again for moi. Back to post one, luckily this time round I know some of you, yays! Although my page is a ghost town I am going to stick to what I've set out to do, and that is, blog smile
Right, so for lack of something uber exciting to share right now I think I'll talk about an author I'm currently enjoying, Jerome K Jerome. Heard of him? Well neither did I really until I searched google for the ''funniest books ever written'' and found his book Three Men in a Boat: To say nothing of the dog. So I read it and it was funny! It was written and published in 1889 or thereabouts but the english isn't complicated and hard to grasp as sometimes with Austen or Dickens. Like you don't have to read one sentence four times just to understand what the hell is going on!

The book is basically about three men, J, George and Harris, who decide to take a trip along the Thames river, yes in a boat, with the dog Montmorency, occasionally stopping off at different locations along the river. Their three hypochondriac bachelors that love eating and drinking and detest work of any kind. The book is laced with funny stories, their even funnier conversations and the antics they get up to.
Three Men on a Boat Quotes:

-''I cant sit still and see another man slaving and working. I want to get up and superintend and walk round with my hands in my pockets, and tell him what to do.''
-''That's Harris all over- so ready to take the burden of everything himself and put it on the backs of other people.''
-''Everything has its drawbacks, as the man said, when his mother-in-law died and they came down upon him for the funeral expenses.''

His sequel to that book came eleven years later and is titled Three men on the Bummel and this time they are on a bicycle tour of Germany. I'm still reading this book but so far I think it's better than the first one. It's far more hilarious and his depictions of the Germans, although their a tad exaggerated, are so funny. There is no way that you will not enjoy his books. So if you're up for a read and looking for something comical give it a go. smile
