Runes of Himself, Software
I'd planned to try Tor, but I found gladder.
gladder makes a great ladder over the Great Fire Wall (GFW). Yes, it truely works. I see wikiepdia again, though a bit slower because proxying is applied.
Thanks, gladder.
(Both Tor and gladder are extensions for Firefox browser.)

Runes of Himself
It seems that the notorious Great Fire Wall (GFW) has been upgraded as it can even blocked https traffic now.
A few days ago I cheered for Wikipedia's being unblocked. However, it get even worse before long. Before this unblocking event, I was able to access Wikipedia via https protocol. Now I have no way to see Wikipedia any more.
Very well, just perfect! Everything goes English now, since I have to depend on Answers.com. Will the administration even block answers.com one day? (President) Hu knows.
Hail Wikipedia's Return to Mainland China

Runes of Himself
Yesterday, I suddenly became interested again in
xmame, an arcade game emulator for Linux and Unix.
I had tried it a few days before. It resulted in a failure to run and I gave up.
I hoped I would be lucky this time. And I turned out to be. I installed it on my
ubuntu laptop with
sudo apt-get install xmame
After installation, it ran well. After that I played Shadow Force and Captain Commando, which were among my favorite games in childhood.
I went to install it on
Everest Linux 0.2 on my desktop PC, from source code this time, since there wasn't pre-compiled package for Everest. I did encounter difficulties to build it from source code, but I was fortunate enough to make it work by tuning its configuration files.

Runes of Himself
I read a message in a blog that Wikipedia is unblocked in Mainland China now. The source of this news is considered to be:
http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/departments/online/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003251388I don't know whether this will last for long or not. So, on one hand, I begin to use the wikiepdia engine in Firefox browser (setting at the up right corner of the browser GUI), on the other hand, I still keep in my favorites the links to
https://secure.wikimedia.org, which will be of use again in case that Wikipedia is blocked for another time.
I have been using
https://secure.wikimedia.org for quite a long time. It feels very good to see
http://wikipedia.org again.

Runes of Himself
Today I tried burning my first DVD+R disk. I had no experience with burning CDR or DVDR. Neither did I have experience with Nero, the disk burner software. Fortunately, Nero was quite user-friendly and easy to use. Newbie as I was, I knew how to use it when it was started.
For the data to store in the first DVD+R, I chose "Ranma", including Volume 1 to 18 of the 2nd part of its TV series, all MPEG4 encoded ogm files, which accounted for as much as more than 4GB. The burning mode is DVD-data.
The burning did not take more than 10 minutes. As soon as it was done, I tried to have my DVD recorder read the new DVD. It worked. I see the video playing well. Great!
Yesterday I bought a DVD recoder with the model type "BenQ 1640", which cost me RMB 395. The price was high to me but it was worthy, since I was able to put my collection of anime video into DVDs, a more secure and convenient way.
Ah, what an exciting future with anime in DVDs!

Runes of Himself
Days ago I moved an AVI file, containing the TV opening of American version of "Saint Seiya", to the partition labeled "Beta" in my removable hard disc. After that, every time I connected my removable disc to a computer, an error would be reported that this AVI file did not exist. I had no idea how to settle this problem except formatting the whole partition. However, there was as much as some 10GB data in "Beta" Partition. If I wanted to format that partition I had to copied all data to another place, which would cause considerable effort. So I decided to hang it to some time in future when I had bought a DVD rewriter and copied the data to DVD's.
Unfortunately, last night I found that the "Beta" Partition wasn't able to be recognized by the computer, after several attempts. This morning I tried it again, still only the "Alpha" Partition in FAT32 format being functional, the "Beta" Partition unrecognizable.
After failures in applying disk recovery tools, I had no choice but to format the "Beta" Partition, losing all data in it, including a complete anime TV series of "Chobits" in good-quality AVI format, which accouted for about 5GB. Of all data that had been lost, the Chobits video was the most important to me. However, it would not take me much effort to download it again from Blueink FTP service, to which I had a fast connection.
This time I chose "FAT32" for file system format for the "Beta" Partition, in the hope to obtain more compatibility across operating systems. "NTFS", which proclaimed better security and I/O effeciency, had little sense for removable hard disk, as I thought now, since I did not connect my removable disc to a computer for a long time, reading or writing it frequently.
The misfortune assured my of two decicions: first, to buy a DVD rewriter as soon as possible; second, to buy a new shell box for my removable hard disk. Storing plain data or video in DVD's was much more reliable than in hard disk. The removable disk's shell box with the IDE-to-USB chipset, had been buggy, resulting in problems for me ever since I assebled this DIY removable disk. I shall not hestitate any longer : Zhongguancun market, this weekend.

Runes of Himself
After the Opera browser became gratis, removing the ad-bars, I have been quite satisfied with it. However, the version for Linux still bears an annoying fault : the font dealing with Chinese. I am not able to find a satifatory font even on a China-originated-and-oriented Linux distribution. Whatever font I use, the Chinese text does not read well.
The Win32 version of Opera works fine with Chinese if you configure it using font 'Tohama'. But font 'Tohama' is not available on Linux. I may copy the font files from Windows to enable my Opera-Linux to work well. That seems a possible solution. But I still wonder why my Firefox-Linux works properly with Chinese while Opera cannot.

Runes of Himself
"Sister Princess" is a anime TV series that tells stories of a boy and his 12 pretty sisters. The girls are of distinct characteristics, of whom I like Mamoru and Rinrin best. Mamoru, who always walks on roller skates, is so active and energetic that you may easily take her as a boy, but she is not lacking in girlhood. I usually appreciate lively girls. One of the other girls, Rinrin, is a genius innovator, who is capable inventing from robots to submarines, from laptop computer to intelligent handset able to send E-mails. Her cute robot, Mecha-rinrin, enhances her own charm. I cannot stop appreciating this lovely girl inventor.
