Mexico

Long way off yet...

Almost there

Well....time has done a runner. It's nearly time to pack and jet off to another country. Third time lucky? I'm getting a little nervous, but only in a good way. I'm addicted to this.
In five weeks I'll be walking around in my first day in Mexico City. I'm sure overwhelmed by everything and utterly confused! I can't wait!
I'm spending a few days in DF (Distrito Federal) as everyone calls it. Then heading to Guanajuato to enrol in a 4 week intensive course of language tuition, then back to DF to find an apartment, complete my CELTA then job hunting....AGHH!
I can't wait to leave this country behind again. I love so much of it, but am disgusted by some of the attitudes here, plus the weather and food is shit.

Dreaming of Mexico

, , , ...

Inspired by the blogs of others, namely 'The Mexile' and 'This Guy'; I have decided to start a blog to chart my new adventure. I'm planning on relocating to Mexico City this summer to persue a career in English teaching.

I embarked on a similar journey in the summer of 2006. I left England to live in Japan after getting a place on the JET programme. That journey ended in spectacular disaster because I had to return due to ill health.

With that part of my life nearly over I am now looking forward to starting fresh on the opposite side of the globe.

I'm currently working in a, how should I say? ... less than desirable and not particuarly motivating job. Getting away from this sort of thing is pretty much unavoidable in the modern world. I'm no activist who is going to shun the world, stop washing and live self-sufficiently whilst holding my middle finger in the face of corporations. However, I would at least like to cease existing as a 9-5 muppet in an office strapped to a computer. I want to live in an interesting and exciting place, with decent weather and experience how other people live. I also wish to become fluent in another language.

Mexico City seems to fit the bill perfectly for now. A huge metropolis, 20 million people, great food, pollution, history, noise, a passionate people and in a part of the world I have never been to.

Seis meses, más o menos, estaré en la Ciudad de Mexico!
